AZhog- it was good talking to you! Best of luck on your cow hunt!

Thanks..probably the best truck I've ever owned. I run a couple of archery groups on Facebook, if you're interested- Arizona Bowhunters and Broadhead Brotherhood.

Hey man..that was me. I saw you guys too. My kid saw your car and said 'Dad, I think those guys are hunters too"..lol.

Danny- I'm in Peoria and have a Unit 21 Flatline map you can borrow if you need it. Not asking for anything in return except you give it back. I can also point you into a few areas that hold deer.

I am a native Texan and I'm proud to call San Antonio home (hour south of Austin) even though I reside here in Phoenix now. Like most have said, leasing a private place is about the only way to go when it comes to hunting, but it won't break the bank if you go in with a few guys and a lot of leases offer year round access, so you can hunt all species on those ranches prewtty much anytime season depending, of course..Central Texas holds huge amounts of whitetails, turkey, hogs, Axis, dove, quail, varmits, predators. Also look into a lease in South Texas. As far as fishing opportunities go, you can be fishing at any of these places in 2 hours or less: Travis Lake Lake Austin Bastrop Lake Stillhouse Hollow lake Georgetown Lake Colorado River Granger Lake Lake LBJ Lake Buchanan Just to name a few.. The economy in Austin is robust and growing. Yes, its the "San Fran" of Texas, but who the heck cares? There is so much to do and see that you'll quickly forget about any of that political BS. But, you'll quickly find out why they say 'Keep Austin weird". I hope you get the job and get to make the move...you won't regret it.

I would for sure check out Jake Rush' site, also Train To Hunt, and Wilderness Athlete. With the exception of the last 8 weeks (back surgery), I am a self proclaimed gym rat. The biggest enemies we have at the grocery store are alcohol, soda (even diet..don't believe that crap) and anything in a box that has ingredients you can't pronounce. Shop on the outside aisles. Also, be careful about dropping carbs completely...you need those to have energy to work out. Just be smart and choose the right ones. Spend a few bucks and consult a qualified nutritionist if you can. Bottom line- you have to eat. Just do it right.. Cardio is great, but if you want to lose weight faster, you have to add weight training in there. Another great workout..load up your Badlands pack with optics, tripod, water, toilet paper, pistol, maps,GPS and go do a lot of scouting....especially in Unit 21 during August. ;-) Lastly, if you're in your 40's or close to it...get your testosterone checked. Believe it or not, what you see in the commercials is true and adding it back in WILL help you lose the weight and your energy levels will be way up too. Most insurance companies will cover it. I recommend Vital4men clininc in Peoria.

Will you send me a 2012-13 Hunting & Trapping Reg booklet?
jbeee replied to rancilio's topic in The Campfire
Sure..please PM me your address and I will get it out to you. -
...and am looking to assist with B&C and P&Y measurements so that I can submit the application with practical experience and hopefully, if I do a good job for you, a sponsorship on my application(s). I realize open spots for measurers are few and far between, but I need to start somewhere. Anybody care to give a guy a shot? Please leave me a number, email or call me directly at 602-460-3154. Regards, John

Just waiting on an admin over there to approve my registration. Once that happens, I'll add to the poll. -
I went last year and fished from El Pescador Lodge. I absolutely love it down there. If you've never been, you should really think about it.

I will join...so count me in. Where do I sign? -
If you're anything like me, you use Facebook and Cousewhitetail to stay on top of things regarding bowhunting for deer, elk, etc. or staying in touch with friends and family. If you're a FB user, please feel free to join my group "Arizona Bowhunters". I'm not selling anything (but have been known to buy a bunch of stuff I like to call "future garage sale stuff"). Anyways, if you're there and want to add us in, please do so. Hope to see ya there. Amanda- again, thanks.

I recommend Ben Avery Range..very safe and very organized. I sighted in my .270 there on ranges from 25 yards out to 100. I believe they have have a 200 yard range.

Thanks everyone. I also called the Safford Ranger District and the nice lady there gave me some ideas. Yes, I understand it's rough country, but after my Unit 23 hunt last year and running into hunters in the most remore spots, we thought we'd try something a little rougher and tougher. You don't know if ya don't go, right?
