    DRAW RESULTS UP!!!!

20 C for me and my dad. I don't know anything about this unit but it should be fun trying to find deer. We put for this unit because it looks like pretty county up there near Peeples Valley. Sorry for those that did not get drawn, we have not hunted with rifle for 2 years. Good luck to all who were fortunate to get a tag this year.

    24B

No one willing to help? Try the usual things: G&F web page. I can tell you that the information will get you to the deer areas. You just have to find the deer. The superstition wilderness area is a good way to go for less pressure and good deer numbers. Most people will hike too far. Find water sources and hunt within one to two mile radius. If it is dry, closer. I have hunted it in the past, in December, and had good luck. Never in October but I would assume that the higher the elevation the better for the deer and you. We hunted at 5000 feet of elevation and saw several bucks. Nothing big but still a good hunt. Good Luck I wanted that tag as a third choice but was not to be. I should be a good hunt.

    Unbelievable Dept. Mess UP!!!

My story is slightly different. My credit card had a pending charge on the 20th and the $19.50 finally hit on the 24th of July. The problem is that my father and I applied for deer tags together on one application. So the charge would have to be twice that, right. Well we didn't drawn according to the wed page. Well my brother applied alone so you would think we was drawn..... of course I told him on the 20th that he had a December whitetail tag in 22 or 24B. The pending charge is now a confirmed charge on the CC when I looked online. Well according to the web page he didn't get drawn for anything either. I called the G & F and she said we did not get drawn so I had to talk to the slobs in Tennessee. They did not have a record of a charge to my credit card. I talked to my CC campany and they said the I did have a change from them and if I wanted to dispute the claim...Well no if I got drawn. I called G&F again they still said the online results were correct and I on one would be getting a tag. Called Slobs in Tennessee but they still don't have a record of the charge. I called the CC company and I'm disputing the charge now. What a mess.

    finally after 28yrs!!!!!

That puts things in prospective. I was at ASU at the time and I put in a unit with one tag so I could get more bonus points. Time and money were scarce at the time. I had three points at the time and I got drawn. I had a blast with that hunt and been wanting to go again ever since. In addition to that, the same year my brother and friend put in together in a unit that had 3 tag and were drawn . We had 3 out of 4 tags. Should have bought some lottery tickets also. I thought 9 points might get me something this year. Hopefully, I won't have to wait 28 yrs. Congrats to those that have a tag.

    No Tag

I usually front the money for my father, little brother, and my girlfriend for all the applications. Sometimes they actually pay be back. That's another story. My credit card had a pending charge on the 20th and the $19.50 finally hit on the 24th of July. The problem is that my father and I applied for deer tags together on one application. So the charge would have to be twice that, right. Well we didn't drawn according to the wed page. Well I brother applied alone so you would think we was drawn..... of course I told him on the 20th that he had a December whitetail tag in 22 or 24B. The pending charge is now a confirmed charge on the CC today when I looked online. Well according to the web page he didn't get drawn for anything either. He's all bummed and I'm all worked up over this . G&F or someone better come up with a good explain and a tag. At a minimum we will settle for an apology letter to my brother (17 yrs old). What would you do? Has this happened to anyone else?

    Arrow Selection

What is your personal criteria for arrow selection. I like comparing the specs of each of the different brand of arrows. Like in other industries, arrow manufactures make different levels of quality of arrows (usually attributed to the manufacturing specs). Now that I've told all of you what you already know. Sorry. I look at the specs for different manufactures and classify then by low, medium, and high levels of quality. IMO it mostly boils down to cost (in some cases cost of Brand Name) for each qualilty level you a looking at. That being said I have always used the Beman and Carbon Express arrow that were over $100 per dozen. I I've had a change of heart and decided that would give the med level arrow ~$80 per dozen at try. Also, I did something that I have never done before and let an archery shop sell me some arrow that I knew nothing about. Not sure how it will all turn out. My instints tell no big deal. I have not had a chance to shoot them yet. Still trying to kill the old Beman arrows. By the way, I got the Back Hawk Vapors. What you all think?

    not so lucky coues buck..

I just posted in the Sheds section on the legalities of picking up antlers. Assuming this buck had a rack someone wanted, based on what I read, you would have to call out an Az G & F officer to confirm the cause of death is by natural cause in order to take the skull. Great pic. Release the Hounds.

    Sowats Fire

I hope they put out the fire quickly. I think that fire is needed but it should only burn isolated spots at a time for the health of the forrest and the animals, besides that areas is good for the archery hunt and the early rifle hunt.

  13. Great pics. Now if one of us could get an elk tag you could take us right to them. Between my friends and I, someone should get a tag so we can be out during the rut. No better time.

    Sheds

Just to pass the time until I get my elk and whitetail tag, I would like your opinion of the the legalities of picking up antlers. The obvious is shed hunting but intact skulls sometimes called "Lion Kills" seem to have some strings attached. The following is from the Az Game and Fish wedpage: What are the legalities of picking up an elk or deer antler? Naturally, shed antlers are lawful to possess. However, the legality of possessing antlers, skulls or other parts from animals that have died is more complicated. In a nutshell, if the animal died from an unnatural cause, such as wounding during the hunting season or vehicle impact, it may not be lawfully possessed. Parts from wildlife that die from natural causes, such as predation, disease, drowning, or lightning may be lawfully possessed. You may not make this determination on your own. If you find an animal that you wish to keep a part of, you must contact the Arizona Game and Fish Department so ?cause of death? can be properly determined. A common question that needs to be addressed is the issue of whether individuals may pick up and keep the head, antlers, or any part of wildlife they find dead in the field. What may appear to be an easy question actually requires a complicated answer. State law requires an individual to have evidence of legality when possessing or transporting wildlife carcasses or their parts. A hunting license and/or big game tag meets this requirement for wildlife lawfully taken during hunting season. However, if an individual in the field finds dead wildlife, or any part of an animal he or she did not legally take during the hunt, then that individual may not automatically possess and /or transport any of it. ******If an individual wishes to keep such wildlife parts found in the field, he/she must contact the Arizona Game and Fish Department so an officer can determine the cause of death of the animal. If it is determined the animal died from a natural cause, such as predation, disease, fights, falls, drowning, lightning, etc., the wildlife part may be possessed by the individual. If the officer determines the animal died from an unnatural cause, such as wounding loss, illegal activity or vehicle collision, no part of the wildlife may be possessed or transported.***** If the cause of death cannot be determined and the wildlife part is fresh, meaning bone or tissue moisture is present and the part is not oxidized, possession will not be allowed. This also applies to parts, such as skulls, where the age cannot be determined because the finder has boiled and/or cleaned them. If the cause of death cannot be determined and the part is old (with no moisture and oxidized), possession will be allowed. Clear? Just remember, the key is to contact the Arizona Game and Fish Department prior to picking up the part. There is no way these parts may be lawfully possessed until the department has determined the cause of death. Thoughts? Experiences calling out an officer to determine cause of death? Practical?
