Rembrandt, I'll bet you whack a good one........say 105 or better. I say this cause it sounds like you put lots of effort by backpacking into wilderness areas in GOD's country. .........are you hunting with anyone else or do you do that crazy stuff all alone? Couesi1
-
RembranDt, I was just funnin'. Sounds to me like you are the man for unit 23. or you and that bcoover guy. Anyway, you can purchase extra whitetail detection synapseeez real cheap at Radio Shack.....they have them for all brands.......unless you're using the low rate type glasses.......i.e. Swarovskis. Now if you got them Docters, you're in business. Couesi1

Hey Rembrandt, First off.....its Couesi1, not Cousi1. Secondly and most importantly.......if you aren't familiar with the delicate intracacies of the whitetail detection synapses of a good set of binoculars, you could be beyond help. However, this does shed some light on the fact that you can't find any deer in Unit 23, and now we all know why. Maybe you should have your binocular detection synapses tuned up. Couesi1

Okay, just found the correct buck. DUH! He's probably about 17 on the outside. With average to good g-2's, my guess is 100 to 105. Couesi1
-
Bcoover, are you referring to the mounted 3Pt. with the short right side G-2?????? If so, it appears to be not as wide as you think. I venture a guess of 15 to 15.5 on the outside and no more than 95 gross (I'm with recurveman). Couesi1

Hey Bullwidgeon, What????? Either the bears and lions ate 'em all or the whitetail buck detection synapse in your binoculars has misfired, cause it sure sounds to me like you're a whitetail hunting machine......and I'm thinking that whitetail bucks abound in Unit 23. Couesi1 p.s. I hope that Rembrandt guy gets his first 100 plusser this year, then he can draw his own monster in a painting.

Bcoover, Sounds to me like that rembrandt fella won't say much. You'll likely never find out where he's gonna be unless you stick a homing device on his boot.......i'll bet he smacks a good one, ........ sounds like he's a dedicated coues fanatic like you. Couesi1

Hey ultramag, thanks for the info. You just gotta use the glass and keep looking. A 2pt 80 class IS a nice buck. I'd be proud of that too. Couesi1

I attended the 24A youth hunt for the whole deal in 2002. The Arizona Deer Association (AZ Mule Deer butt. at that time I think) folks were great. They cooked like nobody's business, the company was great and there were also some really nice game warden type folks from the AZGFD around too. I would highly recommend the youth camp to anyone, whether your kid has a tag or not. Wish I could go to this one. Couesi1
-
Hey ultramag, how many good deer did you end up finding before you almost wasted the tag a few years back? couesi1

Chris, Nice buck man. The trophy is in the eye of the beholder. Is that unit 33?.....just curious. Couesi1

Pretty scary stuff! This kind of stuff on top of what just happened with the law suit thing last summer should really galvanize we sportsmen. Don't be apathetic. Before you know it, these folks might have their own tags! Does anyone really want to see that? the plan proposes that the ranch can purchase tags at what it normally would cost a hunter to draw. However, it says nothing about what the ranch can sell them for. That's a red flag to me when combined with the statement about being compensated for losses due to wildlife depredation. This implies that tags will likely go to the highest bidder. Is that gonna hurt the hard working average joe, or what? Sure looks like it. Couesi1

Rembrandt, I know you told me that on the forum, but I been scouting around,.................and i'm seeing a lot of good looking stuff! They must have had a good fawn crop last year, cause they are TROPHY spikes...... and a lot of 'em. yummy! Couesi1

CHD, Nice buck man! Hey, I hope the work thing works out for you. A 22 December whitetail tag is about as good as it gets. You're a deer harvesting machine and you deserve to hunt it. Couesi1
-
Hey Ultramag, I feel your pain man, last year was the 1st year in 19 that I didn't get a w.tail tag. My advice to you........whether someone invites you or not. Just go anyway - take your bow! I was fortunate enough to get a 23 tag and have located what appears to be a primo spot. If I whack a thumper, I'll post it on the website. Couesi1

Hey Rembrandt, I don't know if those sneaky little deer rut during January, ......... but i can dern sure tell you that the boy deer chase the girl deer during January. Couesi1

Hey BCoover, I was reading your post on November 5th about your trip to 23. Where are the photos??? I'm hungry for some 23 buck action to get me by till Dec 17th. Help me out...................I'm jonesin!!!!!! I'll be in the unit tomorrow for a little pack trip....maybe i'll have time to glass too. P.S. I saw photos of a nice buck from somewhere around the rim (unknown unit) from the archery hunt. It was a whopper!!!!!! I was privileged enough to see them second hand from some other people so I can't post 'em. Couesi1

Hunterofcoues, Well, you went and did it. You'll never go back now. Good story and looking forward to the pictures. Congratulations on your first coues buck. Here's to many more. Couesi1 -
PROPOSED LICENSE FEE MEETINGS
Couesi1 replied to Diamondbackaz's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Hey Coueshunter, thanks for posting that information. You are correct. Complaining about the game department won't get anything done. That's the glass half empty approach and only breeds bitterness and discontent and is a waste of time. It took me only a couple of minutes to contact the senators through the link to ask them to support the bill. Don't know much about the political climate of the current senate or if the bill will even get to an actual vote.....but I can assure you that without aggressive constituent support of the bill by people who vote, it won't get too far. There are a lot of sportsmen out there who have a LOT of clout when they are galvanized. Let's get after it. Couesi1 -
Congratulations, Sounds like you guys had fun. Don't let the beer-can throwin', road huntin' crowd bother you. Those guys are HARMLESS!!!!!! Hope you get a whopper in December. Couesi1
-
Okay, you guys are very helpful......even the sarcastic guys......I appreciate it. I'll take the advice to heart and try to find a thumper. Unfortunately. I have a 23 late bull rifle tag too.......guess that buys me 7 or 8 extra days to glass for our favorite little guys. Couesi1

I drew a unit 23 whitetail tag. Is that a good unit to hunt for whitetail. Don't really know where to start. Any ideas?

Guys, thanks for the advice. I was not speaking for specific places......I know those are sacred. I know how irritating it can be for someone to expect silver platter treatment/information without earning it. I was speaking in more general terms such as northern 23 vs. southern 23. I've already done the internet thing and they are pretty general......probably for a reason (AZGFD). I was thinking of looking around the southern portion of the unit, where the Anchas spill into cherry creek or north of roosevelt lake. It has looked kinda interesting over the years as I fish roosevelt. I got docter glasses and do okay with them. Am I in the ballgame now???? P.S. sorry about opening old wounds....it wasn't my intention. couesi1
