Always a treasure to take a buck with a bow ... great job!

AZGD.gov has some really good info. What are you hunting Coues or Mullies? I haven't done much mullie hunting there, but for white tail I know alot of people that prefer Arivipa Canyon area. (not sure I spelled that right).

I don't have any pics, but I do have a cool story (i think so anyways). Last year we were hunting off some left over tags in 30B. A cold storm came across the dragoons and chased all the other hunters out. We were freezing and spotted some large boulder formations about a 1/2 mile away. We hiked to them in order to shelter ourselfs from the storm and warm up a bit. When we got there we found pictrographs and areas were the boulders were carved out. We found a plaque in the rocks that stated that the apache indians used the rocks for defense and shelter and people over 1000 years ago used the rocks for shelter as well. We found it interesting that we excaped there for shelter just like others have done for over 1000 years!

Advice for a first time hunter

Thank you!! I would have never called that long. I would have called for a few minutes then stopped. I guess I am too used to deer and elk were over calling can turn them the other direction. -
I am going bear hunting this fall for my first time. We are going to a canyon that we were told holds a good amount of bear in it. it is located in unit 32. I am looking for some tips or info that might help me on my first bear hunt. ie... what is the easiest way you've found to get a bear out once you've shot him, were to start glassing, prefered food, good bear sign, and other useful info. Also if you have any gerneral areas you don't mind sharing that would be great. Please feel free to also share any stories successful or not. A smart man learns from his own experience ... A wise man learns from his own and others.

Advice for a first time hunter

Raisedin32 sounds like you have a pretty good idea were we are going. I have been told horses are a big benifit in this area unfortunatly I don't have any or the money to rent. I appreciate all the post so far. I have a good set of bino's and have been physically training my body for a long hike with a heavy load. I will defenitly go out and purchase a few more bags to seperate the meat. -
Beautiful Bear!!!!! Congradulations

Great bear!!!! I'm going on my first hunt this year and hope I come home with my tag attached to something (other than my pack).

I would have to agree with everyone else ... don't let the negative comments get you down. I am trying my first bear hunt this year and to me a trophy bear would be any legal bear. Any goal accomplished results in a great hunt ... congrats!!!

Help with mounting antlers

Bass Pro offers a few do it yourself options. They are pretty cheap with easy to follow instructions. -
Great job. A good hunt is spending time with those you care about. My wife's grandpa used to say "a good way to ruin a great hunt with your family is to bag a deer"

Seems all me and my friends can talk about is the hunt coming up. sweety palms, one track mind, and constant review of maps and cams ... Yup I think I got the fever.

I just drew a tag for this unit myself. The friends I hunt with all know the southern part of the unit real well, but we are trying farther north. A friend of mine hunts this unit every year with his family and they rarely come home with just a tag. They stick to the area around Arivipa canyon (I think I spelled that wrong). you can't hunt the canyon, but the areas around it are supposed to be full of deer. Hopefully we both find a nice spot with a few bucks and a little luck.
