Coconino National Forest Wants your Feedback On road Closures
swwildlife replied to elkaholic's topic in The Campfire
Sounds like you work for the forest service. or at least fell for their BS. yes by law they have to ask for input but by no means do they have to listen. do you remember when the game and fish had all the public hearings on the direction of hunting in AZ. ie; how we wanted them to manage our wildlife and the draw process. they worded the questions that were asked to fit their agenda. more opportunity means more tags to them and more money. hence we have a fall javelina and a real late archery elk season. and most of the hunts run thru the full moon. I was at most of those meetings around the state and what I heard at those meetings was not even close to what was implemented. there is thousands of acres that are not accessible by vehicle of any type, let the back packers and hikers go there. leave the roads open for those that want that type of experience. as for people making new roads, I say forest service get off your butt and patrol the forest. then prosecute the offenders. -
Coconino National Forest Wants your Feedback On road Closures
swwildlife replied to elkaholic's topic in The Campfire
They don't want your opinion, they will just use the opinions that match their agenda, the rest they will throw away. its all about closure and keeping everyone out of the forest. -
Any type of aerosol spray will work or a concentrated liquid you mix in a sprayer. look for something that kills beetles or demistids. the bugs will get thru any type of plastic, that not saying don't use plastic. the plastic helps keep things clean, just keep an eye on them. the sooner you catch them the lesser amount of damage they will do.

IMO, don't loan them to a shop unless you want Rudolph noses and garland hung on them. to the employees of the store they are just a fixture. and depending on how long they are there, the new manager may believe they are the stores. I would suggest either finding a friend to let him hang them up and take care of them or find a cool dry location. clean the mount or have it cleaned, treat it for bugs, bag it tight with plastic and then protect it with a box(plywood). and every 3-6 months inspect for bugs and retreat.

Here is one ready to find its place in the trophy room

Once again there is confusion regarding the importation of Deer and Elk trophies into Arizona. The Game and Fish would like you to believe that it is illegal to bring back your unprocessed trophies. This is NOT true. you can bring back any and all parts of raw deer or elk if it is taken to a licensed taxidermist or meat processor. In the G&F regulations it says that it is Illegal to bring back deer or elk unless certain things have been done as to limit the spread of chronic wasting. Unfortunately the G&F have not told the whole story. they have only told us part of it. It is NOT illegal to bring back parts. In fact you can bring the whole intact carcass back if it is taken to a licensed taxidermist or meat processor. This self imposed regulation is bad for Arizona business. If you like your taxidermist then by all means use him. don't let the G&F pull the wool over your eyes and be forced to leave your trophy in another state only to pay high shipping costs.

red sparky, 654321 is right, that is exactly what the law says and IMO is wrong. you should be able to process you own animal any way you see fit. that is bringing in back in any form and either taking or not taking to a licensed taxidermist or processor. I think this borders on a violation of the interstate commerce law. and will not stop the spread of CWD.
-
the only thing you are wrong about is "the taxidermist and meat processors cut a fat hog on this one." I have LOST business to this law. customers have told me they left their heads in another state to be mounted because it is illegal to bring them back. You are right with everything else. You should be mad at this law because you are breaking the law by bringing back your meat and trophy back into Arizona. This whole law stinks on multiple levels. The G&F are pulling the wool over our eyes in regards to CWD. The reason for them stating that you need to bring it back to a licensed Taxidermist or processor is they know that the scraps will end up in an approved landfill not in the desert or woods.(their words) so my point is why don't they just tell us that ? No they have to come up with some bogus law to control what we do.
-
You are wrong on that one Lark, at least not the Arizona taxidermists and meat processors. the hunters that are going out of state are leaving their trophy to be mounted and meat being processed in the state they are hunting, and paying big money for shipping of completed trophies and over night delivery of the meat. That is what is wrong with this requirement.that isn't a requirement. they just want you to think that. I do agree with everything else you said.
-
654321 that is only partly correct. if you call the chronic wasting department or anyone besides the receptionist, they will tell you that it is ok to bring in a whole intact carcass. here lies the problem. G&F is not telling you the whole truth and your local business and home butchers suffer. I was told the only ones that can inact a law is the commission, so in the mean time they use the language that they use to get people to think it is illegal.
-
My problem with it is 2 fold, 1st, is that they, the G&F make it sound like it is illegal when in reality it is not. thus hurting businesses in Arizona. and 2nd, chronic wasting will never be in Arizona because our deer population is way too low and not concentrated enough. and as it pertains to this issue, the contaminated bones and spinal column left in the desert by the self butcher will never transfer the disease to a living deer. deer are vegetarians, they do not eat the flesh of other deer.

sorry for the sideways picture, no matter what I do, or how I save this picture it always loads on the forum on its side.

Most taxidermist will be between 15 and 21 dollars per square foot for elk hide. We get 18.00 per sq foot, cows are usually 16 to 20 SF, bulls 18 to 25 SF

My family and I went to Less Ferry in April and fished with Mike Roth of Northern Arizona Guide Service. we had a great time and caught a lot of fish. when we got back to the dock we were greeted by a survey taker with the government. I just recently got the additional survey in the mail. the first part was the typical who you are and where you stayed and how much money you spent on the trip and how far did we travel. then the interesting questions. they gave me 3 different scenarios. 2 had to do with the quality and quantity of fish and flow rates. but the interesting part was each of them had added fees. and the 3rd was would not go. there were maybe 15 different scenarios and the common thing with all, "if the trip were XX number of dollars more would you still go"? these numbers were from 25.00 to 700.00. more. Ive seen how these surveys work. they have already made up their mind and are going to raise fees they are just looking for justification and to say "look the people we surveyed said they would spend more" even though that is not how the question was worded. I answered I would not go on any of the trips that had any added cost. sorry for the rant. I hate to be manipulated!

We do quite a few repairs here at Southwest Wildlife. I thought I would post one of the latest. This bear has hung at William Larkin Moore (a high end gun store) for years. It was knocked off the wall and came crashing down. They didn't want to get rid of the bear because this bear was used in a movie years ago about Teddy Roosevelt and it has been with them almost since the opening of the store. So we did the best we could putting all the pieces back together. if you look you can see that the form was a hollow paper form. Another happy customer.
