Saw a camera set up 30 ft from our cam (game trail but not on water Guess he liked our little spot)this weekend didn't have a box, lock and only rope holding it up..I waved as I walked by can't wait to see if the owner gets on here sometime and says.."who took my camera" That thing is just sit'n there waiting for a crook.

Ok I'll try not to be long winded but being a novice (never doing it before at all) I'm thinking of buying a lot up north Happy Jack area and wondered if anyone had some advice they might want to pass on as food for thought. Lot size 1-5 acres some have septic installed which would be a big plus and some don't. Does anyone have pointers on looking for land? I also have no clue who any of the home builders are in that area so if you know of someone to point me to for a few questions if they don't mind that would be great! Any help or things to watch out for would be appreciated..happy otc arch this year Boe

Anyone have any luck fishing here. I went last year and spent 5hrs getting a suntan and buzz but no fish. I didn't see anyone with a fish at all. I've never had a problem catching trout or bass in every lake I've fish but this place has me stumped. Well guess where my friend wants to go fishing this weekend..I personally like Long Lake better caught some nice Northern Pike with my 4 yr old son last year and it has easy access but hey I might not have much of a say in this one.

I know you don't have to have Blaze on here in AZ but I've got ribbon on my pack for this reason. It's sad to say that there are people in the United States of America where hunting isn't just a past time, its suppose to be a lifestyle, brotherhood and right we should cherish and protect. Being responsible and ethical in every manner and taking the safety of every hunter is one of the most important parts. The "people" who are careless/clueless and don't care about how they shoot or what may be next to or behind the animal while they are tossing Hail Mary's need to have a can of whoop arse opened up on them. Think about how you ended up hunting? My dad (thank god I was lucky enough) brought me up hunting and passed on generations of hunting ethics, safety and just plain common sense. I'm sure that most of the people who are blasting 17 shots or taking insane shots where they are just crossing a finger and hoping it hits. probably never had someone close to them who they truly respected as a mentor show them the ropes. As far as one shot one kill thats bunk I agree hunting is hunting last deer I shot in Maine had two in the lung and one in the neck..lol

Emergency communication with the BP
bstpeter replied to Ace High Benny's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
It's against the Law to Use VHF Marine Hummingbird radios on land but not to carry one if it was an emergency I would use it anyway. I carry one with me back east in case I break my leg and the old Cell phone doesn't work. If I ever had to pay a fine to be saved I'd do it as well...better then lighting a forest fire...remember that crazy lady who set the Chediski fire. -
Well my hunt in 6a is over and I had a blast hanging out with my friends and trying to do it right but with that said my glassing didn't turn anything up but several hunters and a coyote. Get off the roads and get into the deer but every day I saw deer trying to cross the road. Opening day I went out to an area that had some good sign to glass not 100 yrds from my rig and ran right into a nice fat whitetail doe she flagged me but settled down and kept on grazing and walking through a field of Junipers. Later that day on the way back to camp (I was a little under the weather so to speak) we caught two spikes trying to cross the road I saw the big spike had huge spikes had to be at least 8-10" and didn't see the little one my buddy said was there as well. Jumped out and ran off the road the little bugger was butt towards me looking at me his ears covered his small spikes I had my crosshairs right on them looking for em and couldn't see then he turned and jumped when he did I saw them not big at all button buck where I'm from I didn't have time to pull the trigger. I have to say it was exciting and a good start for the first day. Next several days text book glassing saw sign but no deer on way home to camp again more deer crossing the road all bald but deer. Finally my last day I decided to ambush one trying to cross the road instead of glassing. I picked a good spot had the wind right and sat my butt off till I froze..the wind changed on me a bit so I went out to the truck to warm up get a drink and check above me. Driving about 1 mile an hr about 300 yrds from where I was I saw an ear sticking out from a big clump of trees. I stopped backed up to confirm and sure enough he peeked only his head out to look at me in my truck. Needless to say I got really excited and looked in my rear view and there was a little red sports car with hikers or something 5 ft from my bumper not going by. I waived them by and they finally took off so I followed trying to to scare off the deer. Parked up the road a ways jumped the fence and slowly made my way down to where the deer was the wind was right but he could see me so he was trying to stay ahead of me but man did he want to get across that road. After playing tip toe with him he finally gave me a shot but he was moving faster and it was Antlers and head so being the last day and last hr I let him have it but nothing I think I hit a branch and I was wishing I didn't have a scope. Oh well first Coues hunt and found more on the road then in the canyons..lol I may have two rifles with me next time Iron sights and scope. Hope everyone had a great time and good hunts....who knows I maybe hunting roads next time.lol

Someone told me its because of the water there is a ton of it all over so they don't need to stay as close to a reg tank or water hole but they could be wrong..the silver lining is more water better deer population so I'm ok with that. I saw a ton of water all over the canyons in places I thought were dry. It's hunting not killing I'll refrain from my Maine hunting trip I just got back from but had a much closer encounter that didn't pan out as well but that was human error

Couldn't kill this one didn't get drawn but shot him a few times anyway...with my camera from 40yrds..

Kind of reminds me of my friends kid last year he shot a nice 6 pt his first deer ever it ran down the hill and laid down to die in another guys side yard. The guy Who we all knew went out shot it. When my friend and his kid tracked it to to his yard the guy wouldn't even acknowledge that it had been shot or was bleeding the entire way to his yard.....that sucks!!! I wouldn't have been every nice at all your bullet hole your deer it would have dropped even if they shot it they should acknowledge it was hit before I understand why they shot but hate people who take credit for something they didn't do.

My hunting buddy got drawn for those Pesky Vermont Moose its Cow or Bull and he opted to Shoot a Cow this year nice size said it weighed in at over 603lbs, should be some good eats at camp in Maine this year for my mid November hunt.. Thought I would share the pictures wish he had a real camera not a cell phone but he isn't a big picture kind of guy...enjoy

Where I hunt in Maine its -10 to 20 degrees in the morning and the last thing you want to do is sweat on your way to where you are sitting, we walk very slowly. I carry a back pack with my heavy clothes in it and go as cold as I can stand it on the way in. Usually your excited so its not too hard to ignore the cold when you are walking in but that wares off when you are sitting still and the wind kicks up. I'm dressing light and packing heaver clothes with me up in 6a on Friday...Can't WAIT I'm excited as Heck to get out and HUNT Finally!!!! Here couesy couesy Oh yeah Feet, Hands and Head. Beanie was already mentioned and they are great for siting!!

I went scouting this weekend with another member of CWT and he happened to have the Flatlinemap so I had a chance to see it. The contours and terrain were easy to see and it made it nice to navigate off some high areas down into the canyons with out having to use ropes..lol we were in some really steep stuff. Not that there isn't room for different styles or more information but if you can make a product better..why not if you come up with a map that shows where the Coues are you'll be rich. I'll i've seen is a few piles of poop:-)

Hunt the top part of the unit its 25-45 miles from the Border that's a long haul for drug smugglers with guns blazing and you probably won't see a large group of illegals carrying backpacks with 10 water bottles and ripped up flip flops that far up. Maybe she would be more comfortable with you going in that area rather then sitting on the border watching the illegals push deer across the border. It might be a good compromise, good luck.
