I think the main variable here is feed, water & cover.... The area I hunt has really good resources but depending on the time of the year they could move much further.... I'm thinking ~5 square miles..... that much area would overlap pine & juniper habitat.... Anyhow I chose this unit & area I hunted this year due to the fact I have consistently been seeing them (big bucks) every year since 2010......

An account from another hunter who had been scouting for his upcoming late rifle bull hunt that had seen the buck I harvested, it was roughly 1.5 miles away where he had seen him the week before..... so 3 square miles... I thought this was really good info for next year if I get drawn again.... this area is mostly rolling hills with some steep hills and small mountains... hope this helps...

Any good ones in the Tempe, Chandler & Gilbert areas? Thanks!

I have not taped him yet and will get to it later today. At first I thought he push 200" but reality is, he has a very large 3x frame and is a little over 27" wide. He has a little 'trash' in and around the right base and eye guard. My guesstimate he is between 170-180 and would be very surprised with 180+. His rack un-touched was a beautiful caramel color and now after all the blood, dirt and handling they are brown... going to ask the Taxi to see if they can get cleaned up back to original color when I harvested him. His body was massive and is the heaviest buck I have taken thus far... must have been at least 250 lbs. on the hoof. I can just imagine how he would look during the rut...

I'll be in 6A chasing those monster rmuleys we always see during the elk hunts! -
Congrats!

I tie a blaze orange bandana to my pack.

Poston is ~50 miles from Alamo... maybe we'll have a huntable population (non-limited) in a few years..... instead of talk of monster desert mules we'll soon be talking about monster desert elky..... ha!
-
It could be possible... the closest elk population nearby is ~70 miles northeast of there at Alamo Lake... I'm sure they could have followed the river/wash all the way to the Colorado then head south following the river... What is the Facebook link to check it out?

If you want to become that mountain stud you need to visit Zac Griffith's website where he shows you how to naturally build mountain muscle..... ha... All kidding aside... there have been some NFL players that have taken this stuff and they believe it works... Of course those guys can afford to buy the real good stuff and not the watered down options us peons can buy. Drink milk... it has the same hormone found in the velvet of antlers plus additional hormones our farmers throw into to help their cows produce more milk... lol. This is the reason why kids are growing bigger and bigger every generation. Pffffffffffffffffttttttttttttttttttttt... oh and for those of you who are dairy sensitive be sure to buy lactose free milk...

Without giving out too much info as to I have this same hunt... I have seen some very nice bucks where I have recently archery hunted elk the last several years. They appear to be doing very well where I go and mileage may vary since this is a very large unit. As the AZG&F site states scout/hunt the transition areas (Juniper & Pine). Good Luck!

It used to be a great unit in my teenage years back in the 80's... check out the hills just northwest of Wikieup.

How were they gobbling this past weekend...? Thanks!

Which turkey app did you use... I'm headed out this weekend and have a few apps installed on my iPhone... going to use the app in conjunction with my Jawbone Big Jambox.....

I don't comment too often on this site but I have to say your video's are far from being amateur. I like your "WARNING" message at the beginning of a few of your videos... LOL!

Will forest service shut down roads due to mud?
Cazador replied to AZHUNTER05's topic in Elk Hunting
It will start drying out by Thursday and throughout this weekend into next week, so more seasonal for this time of year. I would expect when the air dries out it will drop the temps and it will hopefully kick in more rut activity. All this rain is good for those of us who hike and spot/stalk. Also more humidity in the air doesn't carry your human scent. It is shaping up to be a very good early archery hunt. -
That's a helluva bull!..... I can't wait till the hunt!....

6ANut, it's the 'circle of life'...
