I shoot 340 FMJ's. They are quiet and pack a punch, but not as fast as the light weight carbons. I like the heavier quiet arrows rather than the light weight stuff. You can get an idea how hard they hit when you shoot into a bag. My FMJ's go halfway through the bag and the carbons only go in a few inches. I think arrow speed is kinda overrated. I shot a buck last year and got a full pass through with mechanicals and there was a divot in the ground where the arrow hit the ground. My arrows are 478 grains @ 262 fps for 72 lbs of KE. Shooting 70lb bow with 29" draw.

straight fletching or helical?
Curtis Reed replied to Timberghost's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
I use 2.25" QuikSpins fletched straight. Any other vane, I would put a helical on it. QuikSpins are awesome IMHO -
Matthews Drenalin creaking noise? - need advice
Curtis Reed replied to Viper's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
Cool. Robert has a pretty cool little shop there in AJ. I pulled up there once and wasn't sure if I was at the right place, but ended up finding his shop in the back. -

Curtis Reed replied to couesdeerhntr's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I'm pretty much ready. I just got a new Vaportrail string put on my bow, I need to break it in... Otherwise, I am going to my usual spot to hunt. Can't wait! -

Matthews Drenalin creaking noise? - need advice

Bring it in to a bow shop to make sure one of your limbs isn't starting to split or crack. If your limbs are good, the creaking is possibly coming from the Quick Cable Connects (which is fairly common with Matthews bows). The QCC's get worn in spots, and makes the noise when you draw. When you bring it in, have the pro shop press your bow and remove the QCC's and lightly sand them flat. Here is a link to a Matthews forum where it explains it: http://forums.mathewsinc.com/archery-4/technical-faq-28/qcc-step-by-step-with-pics-56163/ Another related forum topic on AT: http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?t=1026237&page=1 Not sure if that will help, but I hope it does! -
I dig a shallow hole about 3 feet wide, and set the dirt next to the hole. Then, I dump a 40 lb bag of fine salt crystals into the hole. I then put the dirt I took out of the hole back into the hole with the salt and mix them all together. After it is mixed, you cant really even tell there is salt in the hole. I then take a gallon of Deer Cane and pour it on top of the salt hole. This has always worked well for me...

In your opinion - who makes the best wall tent?
Curtis Reed replied to mtn-memories's topic in Other Hunting Gear
Was your montana canvas "sunforger" or "treated"? I wasn't aware that the canvas shrunk that much. I may very well look into a synthetic or at least a blend. Thanks for your input! As long as it is set up completely (all ropes and stakes used) then it shouldnt shrink. If you just set the canvas over the internal frame without stakes or ropes then it will shrink too much. You can get the tent back to original condition: http://davistent.com/html/framefit.html -
In your opinion - who makes the best wall tent?
Curtis Reed replied to mtn-memories's topic in Other Hunting Gear
I have a 12x14 Davis tent with internal frame. I love that thing, and I cant say enough good things about the guys at Davis Tent. A great, American company. I also have their Big Boy cot, and that thing is built like a tank. Both the tent and cot should last a lifetime. I don't like the condensation problems that other tents like the Alaknak have. Canvas is very breathable and durable. -

My new Bowtech Destroyer 350
Curtis Reed replied to willhunt4coues's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
Nice looking bow you picked up... I like the FLX Guard on the new Bowtechs. Pretty mean looking quiver you have there! Are those factory strings? -
I thought I was the only one who called it "Rooster Sauce". I love it on everything!
-
I watched every episode last season, and have been watching this season. Great show. Love the guns
-
I use expandables, but I shoot GrimReapers Razortips. I have heard that Rage's can deploy in your quiver quite easily, but I have never used them myself.
-
A lot of people think the Ally is the best Bowtech ever made... Bump for a shooter
-
That is a sweet rig, my buddy has one and it is nice. I wish I had a few extra $$$ to spend, but I need a new bowstring, a few packs of GrimReapers and a wood stove for my wall tent! Good Luck
-
How do you like the FOB's? I shoot a short ATA bow, and read that they dont work well with that setup, as the string will hit the FOB at full draw.
-
I just ordered up something that I have wanted for a long time... a wall tent from Davis Tent in CO. Should be here tomorrow.
-
I drew the same hunt! Good luck!
-
I didnt think it was that bad. Most of the Bone Collector endorsed commericals are for worse IMO

Plain David's are my favorite

Not all kids like to hunt

I am tired of more and more regulation... If I support it or not. I'm not a smoker, but I think a bar owner should let people smoke inside HIS bar if he wants to. This is not just in refernce to hunter laws. It seems in every aspect in my life. Just leave EVERYTHING alone for a while. Land of the free? Please. Way too much government in our lives. I need to get a permit to cut a downed log into firewood in the NF. I was watching This Old House the other day, and a homeowner in Boston along the Charles River COULD NOT remove poison ivy from his yard because it is a histoic/protected area. He could not remove one weed from his own yard. My grandfather is probably rolling around in his grave right now. Sorry that was a little long winded.
