Is your rifle currently sighted in? If so all you need to do is install the new turret so that the zero lines up with the hash mark on the scope. When the turret reads zero you should be hitting your target at what ever range you sighted your rifle into.
-
If your rifle is zeroed now simply hold your dial so that it does not spin while removing the screw. Place your new turret on the scope with the zero lined up correctly with the line on the scope. Tighten the screw while holding onto the turret so that it does not spin and your done. Really simple.

Where do you store your tag before hunting season?

Mine gets signed and put in my wallet as soon as it gets out of the mail box. I never go anywhere without my wallet so I know I always have it. The 6P rule gentlemen learn it,live it. -

Use that data. Shouldn't be a problem.

Before you get to involved I would recommend a good bullet comparator to measure to the ogive rather than the tip of the bullet. The hex nut comparator from Brownells works great and is cheap too. The ogive is the most consistent part of the bullet to measure to and is the part that actually engages the rifleing. Changing the seating depth can have some considerable change on your loads. I generally start .025" off the lands and adjust in .005" increments closer to the lands if needed. The sweet spot for me is generally between .020"-.025" off the lands.

My savage 22-250 load development
STOMP442 replied to nighthawk's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Given that rifle has a 12 twist a heavier bullet may work better. I have a model 12 and an axis that both shoot the 69gr Sierra Match kings into one little hole. 35 - 36gr of Reloader 17 pushed them right around 3350fps and seemed to be the sweet spot. Both rifles would hold half moa out to 800 yards. I know sierra recommends a 10 twist but the 12 seems to work just fine. -

Savage 111 combo in 25-06 for 270
STOMP442 replied to khmer6's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Retail is close to $500 most places. The local Walmart wants $467 for the model with the Bushnell scope. $270 is a great buy. What store and where? -
I have found those little lee case trimmers to be about the easiest and most accurate trimmer out there. I use a drill and made some round handles to go on mine that makes things a lot more comfortable.

700 yards really isn't a big deal and lots of calibers can do that relatively easy without having to move up to a magnum sized caliber. As said before it depends on what the end goal is, paper and steel or game. Either cartridge you have listed will get you there no problem and provide clean kills on game at that distance but so will a standard 270 or 7mm08 with proper shot placement and bullet selection.

I don't have access to my manual at the moment but load data.com shows a coal of 3.340" hope this helps.

That is a bad mother chicken right there. Makes me want to crank some cowboys from heck. Good luck with the trade.

Send it off to shaw for fluting or purchase a new fluted barrel from them and have them install it. By far the cheapest route.

The best way to determine drops and turret values is by shooting and lots of it. Practice at the ranges you intend to shoot and practice in adverse conditions and varying elevations to better understand what you and your rifle are doing. Ballistic calculators are great but they are only as good as the information input into them. I will never trust a calculator over my proven data and drop charts developed at the range and in the field. As far as B.C.s go berger has the most accurate and scientific data available of any bullet manufacturer. They use multiple chronographs acoustic sensors and radar over 600 yards to determine actual bcs of their bullets. They also use the G7 standard which is a much more consistent drag model for todays modern bullet designs. The actual bc can have slight changes depending on elevation and weather conditions but for the most part are very consistent. Sierra also provides very good information but does so using the G1 standard models which is velocity dependent. Hornady I will admit has come along way in their BC information especially in thier Amax and Match bullet lines but can at times be a little exaggerated but not by much and depending on the bullet. Nosler just likes to blow smoke and lots of it, their ballistic testing is limited to 100 yards and pushed at the highest velocities possible which doesnt amount to good data at all for the average hunter / shooter. My opinion on a custom dial system vs the standard moa knob is this. If you changes bullets or loads at anytime your custom dial is pretty much useless and you will have to spend the money on a new one. The moa knob allows you the freedom to change at any time or for any situation by simply making a new drop chart. Its just as easy to dial up moa as it is to dial up to a yardage on a turret.

remington 700 sendero nightmare
STOMP442 replied to 5guyshunting's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Have you tried using a windage adjustable base and the Burris zee rings? You might be able to take up enough to at least get it zeroed and the plastic inserts won't allow the scope to pinch and bind. Worth a shot what's another 60 bucks. Worse case it doesn't work and you sell the rings and bases in the classifieds and get your money back. -
Head over to savageshooters.com and poke around I bet someone over there has one.
-
I've tried that too but it never seems to stay lit for me. The heet has never given me trouble once its lit and why I prefer it.
-
I picked up an aluminum one on eBay for about five bucks and it works awesome. Fill it half way with heet and light it, less than ten minutes later you have boiling water. Best part is that it only weighs like 3oz and fits in a small pocket.

Are you shooting from the lead sled pictured? If so ditch the sled and use a rest and or bags. Sleds are known for causing issue with scopes especially when mounted on magnum caliber rifles. If that doesn't help things I would switch to some burris signature zee rings to eliminate any question with rings or alignment issues. -
Best powder for 7wsm 162 gr bullet?
STOMP442 replied to Webber's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
H1000, Retumbo, Ramshot Magnum and H4831 should all give good results. Ramshot Hunter has worked well for me in a 300wsm with a 168 match king as well. Hunter and 4831 are fairly close burn rate wise. Accurateshooter.com has some good articles and data on the 7wsm http://www.accurateshooter.com/cartridge-guides/7mm/ -

Not sure why people think fireforming is such a chore. Fire form while doing barrel break in and you kill two birds with one stone. I generally break in for 50 rounds so when im done I have 50 cases ready to go and if I need more I wait until its time to clean it then fire form a few more to foul in the barrel. Works out pretty good. The 6.5-06 ackley is a great cartridge I have one and love it. I am getting 3180 out of mine with a 140 berger and only have to use 59 grains of powder to do it. The 26 Nosler can beat it im sure but not by much and it will have to burn quite a bit more powder to do it. There are quite a few 6.5s available that meet or exceed the 26 Nosler performance but dont have the backing of a major company that will allow joe smo to buy factory ammo. For those of us who reload and enjoy working with wildcat chamberings the 26 isnt all that exciting. But the guy that goes to the store looking for the best hot rod on the shelf the 26 looks pretty dang good.
