  1. Here is my old thread on mine and a pic of my rifle. My rifle shot much better with H4831 than it did with H1000 or Retumbo. It's funny how particular barrels can be. http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/41495-65-06-ackley-improved/

    Using FFL Dealers

Usually how it works is you purchase the gun online and before they ship it they will require a faxed copy of the FFL license of the business you would like it sent to. Before I had my own I would contact whatever gun shop or dealer I wanted to go through and let them know of my intention. Once the purchase was made online I would have my local shop send the info over and a couple days later go pick up my firearm and fill out paper work.
  3. That is one of my favorite things about Ackley cases. Most of the time you can reach velocities of much larger cases with less powder which also translates into less recoil and cost per round. The no trimming part saves a bunch of time as well.
  4. Pretty sure that barrel with 4000ish rounds on it was also nitrided and set back at least once to achieve that round count if I remember correctly. That's quite a bit more money and effort for an everyday practice rifle. Truth be told a guy doesn't need 3100fps and the extra powder and recoil required to get there to shoot long range. Personally, I would still pick the swede for what the OP wants to do. Pressures are low and ballistics are more than sufficient for just about anything with widely available and affordable high quality components.
  5. The 6.5x55 has been doing all the neat and wonderful things the creedmoor and 260 has for over 100 years. In a modern action velocities well above 2900 are possible and lapua and Norma brass is easy to come by and pretty darn cheap to boot.

Sportsmans Concrete for sure. Buck & Cody are awesome guys.

    General Purpose/ Back up Rifle

Two inch difference in barrel length may effect muzzle velocity by about 40 fps in a .270 thats not a whole lot to worry about especially for a back up rifle.
  8. These rifles shoot really well too. Great price!

    General Purpose/ Back up Rifle

Just about everything in North America has been killed by a .270 with a 130gr bullet. It just works. With a standard twist you can go all they way up to 150 if you wanted to. The new heavy high BC bullets are great but you kind of have to build around them in order to use them. My bullet of choice in the 270 is the Berger classic hunter. With a BC of .490 it's not far off from the 150gr VLD BC of .518 and can be fired at much higher velocity. This results in a flatter trajectory, slightly better wind drift and energy numbers nearly identical out to 700 yards where they both retain roughly 1000 foot pounds of energy.

    General Purpose/ Back up Rifle

The .270 is an excellent cartridge that does it all really well and you can find ammo for it anywhere if you were in a pinch. My vote is for a Tikka T3, their plastic stocks are much better made than the Remingtons or Savage tupperware stuff and they also make a beautiful walnut stock as well.

    Boy Scouts of America

Unfortunately, the scouting program is a far cry from what it used to be. Can't say that I am surprised by this and frankly the young men of the church will probably be better off for it.

    Ruger 10/22 custom barrels

I have used Shaw, Whistle Pig, Tactical Solutions and Green Mountain. They all shoot very well. The trick with Rim fire is finding what ammo shoots best out of your particular barrel. Best bang for the buck would probably be Green Mountain as they have a lot of different options as far as lengths contours and fluting styles with prices that won't break the bank.

    Ultimate Coyote Gun

Here is another I got earlier that same day. You can see from the blood splatter that this thing hits with authority but I have seen worse exit holes from 22-250s with varmint bullets. It really all depends on how you hit them though.

    Ultimate Coyote Gun

So 115 bergers would be the go to round for keeping pelts Yep. Here is the last coyote I shot with the Berger. He held up on the edge of the brush line facing me at about 75 yards and I put one right in his chest. Never got an exit on this one.

    Ultimate Coyote Gun

Ive been using a standard 250-3000 for years as my go to yote gun and it works like a champ. 75gr vmax at 3500fps does a number on them. The 115gr Berger at 2800 also does real well and actually does less damage. Just leaves a nice one inch hole on the off side.

    Timmey triggers ?

The Calvin Elite is very nice. I also really like the Rifle Basix which is a bit cheaper and they have quite a few options and pound weights to choose from for a 700 to fit your given application.

    Scope Mount Tips

Lapping ensures that the scope rings have even pressure applied across the ring when tightened down. Depending on the mount set up and the rings used there can be quite a bit of binding that occurs on the scope which is never a good thing. Also, there are times when mount holes are not drilled inline and can also cause a binding issue. Lapping fixes these issues by removing material from the high spots or the spots that would cause the bind. Lapping is a step like bedding that never hurts but may not always be necessary. The easy way to fix these possible issues with scope mounting is using a set of Burris signature zee rings. They come with plastic inserts that not only protect your scope from scope marks but allows the scope to align perfectly centered without any binding and apply even pressure across the rings. They also come with different size inserts to apply cant to your scope like a 20 moa rail all while keeping the scope perfectly inline. Best rings made in my opinion and you never need to worry about lapping or ring marks on your high value optics.

    7mm Rem Mag Memorial Build

Heck with those Hornadys. I would stick with the Bergers with them shooting that well.

She's about the luckiest kid I have ever met. Good luck on the hunt.

    Ruger American .22

I have done quite a bit of testing with different kinds of 22 ammo in several different rifles and you will be surprised at the difference a simple ammo change can make. You will also be surprised to find one particular rifle to hate a certain kind of ammo and another love it. Take CCI quiet for example. My 10/22 with a Green Mountain match barrel shoots 2" groups at 50 yards with that stuff. My wife's 10/22 with a Green Mountain match barrel will shoot them under an inch. Hard to explain that one. Hers will shoot bug hole groups with Norma Match and mine prefers the Wolf Match. Both rifles shoot extremely well in general but they definitely have their favorites.

    Hornady 140 eld-m

A high BC 130 pushed a bit faster in a Creedmoor vs the 140 a little slower in the Creedmoor gives very similar performance. You give up a little wind drift and energy but not a lot. There is a reason those PRS guys love the 130s in the Creed.

    6.5 prc. ????

With a c.o.a.l. over 2.800" this will still work better in a long action. It's like the 284 win, yeah it will work in a short action but it works best in a long one.

    Hornady 140 eld-m

I have yet to see the 143s shoot well out of anything I have tried them in. The 140s however, have proven to be very accurate and easy to tune.
