  1. The hot new Item is the 28 Nosler. Great case design with no belt and great performance. The down side to that is that there is only one brass supplier and who knows, 10 years from now it may not even be made anymore. I doubt it but it's possible. The 7mm Mag has been around forever and has proven to do just about anything and components are everywhere. If it were me and building a lightweight rifle I wouldn't even consider a magnum cartridge. I would pick the .284 Win and push 168-180 Bergers at 2800-2850fps and kill anything I wanted to out to as far as I wanted to with a whole lot less powder usage and recoil.
  2. Mcgowan makes a great barrel as well as Criterion. My current barrel on my match rifle is a Mcgowan chambered in .260AI and it is literally one of the most accurate barrels I have seen. I also have a sporter weight .25-06 in a Criterion barrel that shoots fantastic. I have used a lot of E.R. Shaw barrels and had good success with them as well but they do require a bit more break in as they are not hand lapped like the others. Check out gunshack.com , thebarreloutlet.com , and Northlandshooterssupply.com for prefit barrels ready to ship. Check stockystocks.com for left hand stocks I want to say Bell & Carlson also makes a lefty stock for a Savage.

    Barrel twist question

You can probably go up to a 69gr Sierra Match King no problem. In fact, that would be the bullet I would want to shoot. They perform very well on Coyotes and even bigger critters and shoot extremely well. I would stick with bullet weights between 50 and 69gr with a 10 twist. My Savage has a 12 twist and shoots the 69gr Match King into the .3s and prefers Reloader 17 with the heavier weights.

    Anyone contacted rifle basix lately?

Northland is good people. I am willing to bet he would make it right. That being said I have quite a few of the Rifle Basix triggers in Savages and they work great. There is not a better trigger made for the Ruger M77 MKII either, I prefer it over the Timney for that particular rifle.

    PTG TRUED ACTIONS?

Unless you are ordering a reamer special made you can get them cheaper and quicker from Midway or Bullets.com

    PTG TRUED ACTIONS?

I have built a couple rifles with these. Not much to say about it other than it's a trued Remington with a little bolt work. At $380 thats a heck of a deal for a Remington action with all the work already done. I have also used their B-29 actions. They are essentially a stiller and the quality on the couple I have used have been great.

Got my 2016 dec buck back

    Cool looking buck Bobby!
  8. My 6.5-06 AI has a 1:9 twist and will shoot the 140 Bergers and the 142 Match Kings very well but they are shorter than the new 143s. I also live at 3000 ft elevation and hunt from there on up. Might be worth taking some measurements and plugging your data into the Berger twist calculator on their site and see what you come up with. If you can get an SG of at least 1.4 your rifle should be able to handle it. For my particular rifle at my environmental conditions, I am getting an SG of 1.48 with the 140 Bergers at 3170fps.

    300 win mag load

Every rifle is different and will like different loads. But I have always had good results with 185gr Bergers and H-1000 or the 210s and Retumbo. Either one of those will reach to 800 and beyond quite easily.

    Shot the Wrong Antelope Buck!!

Brandon, Congrats on the goat man! I have always said those Match Kings work great on game.

    Savage bottom metal

You can buy it directly from savage. You will have to provide a serial number and also fill out and fax back a liability release form but they will sell you the parts you are after. I haven't called them in a while but they have had very helpful and friendly customer service in the past. I believe the part numbers you are after are: Detachable box mag frame: 106237 Magazine Bottom: 106104

    25-06 loads

As Lance has said the Match Kings do kill very well. I have a friend that I built a .260 Remington for that has killed numerous deer with the 142 at some pretty incredible distances and it has worked flawlessly. I have personally killed a handful of coyotes with the 69gr and quite a few with the 100gr match king in a .250 Savage. The Match Kings work thats for sure. I also seen a nice bull elk killed with a 175gr TMK out of a .308 at over 700 yards that folded right up as well.

    25-06 loads

Hate to say it but it's time to try a different bullet. Try something from Sierra. If the bullets in the green box don't shoot something is wrong with the rifle. Make sure your scope mounts and action screws are tight as well.

    Budget vortex riflescopes

Natchezss has great deals on scopes all the time that would be much better options than a cheap craptex. They are currently promoting Nikon Monarch 5s 3-15s for $319. That's decent glass at a great price with all the features you would need for a young hunter. It has the advanced BDC for hold overs and also good reliable turrets if you wanted to go that route with just as good of a warranty as a vortex. https://www.natchezss.com/nikon-monarch-5-rifle-scope-3-15x42mm-ed-sf-advanced-bdc-reticle.html

    Ballistics program for PC

http://appliedballisticsllc.com/ballistics/ This one is the best in the business with a bullet library of lots of bullets with their proven and tested ballistic coefficients in either G1 or G7.
  16. Gun scrubber is a great de-greaser and doesn't harm plastic or other materials. I would recommend not using anything WD-40 on any firearm part. That crap will collect more dirt and cause more issues than anything. I like to use Ballistol for lubing firing pin springs or even bolts in general. Great stuff that won't gum up even in cold.

    Scope Question

Go shoot it. It's the only way to be sure, and unless it's a first focal plane scope the hash marks will represent a different range at different power settings on the scope. It's probably best to determine your drops at high power where you would more than likely have the power set for a longer shot.

    Farrell Hogs?

I got one a few years back and it was awesome. She was a decent size sow. If I remember right I got back about 60 pounds from the butcher. That hog was some of the best tasting pork I have ever ate. All we ever did was salt and pepper the pork chops and throw them on the grill. Nothing fancy and those BBQs are still talked about to this day. Good Stuff. Good Luck.

    25-06 loads

Hard pressed to find a better Coues rig than a .25-06. Mild recoil, flat trajectories, high velocities and excellent terminal performance for it's size.

    25-06 loads

Like I said I don't have my note book in front of me. But I have been using H1000 in the last few I have done load work on. Hodgdon site shows a max charge of 58.5gr as a max load with 117gr bullets.
  21. STOMP442

    25-06 loads

H1000 works extremely well in a 25-06 with a 115 Berger bullet. Without looking at my notes I want to say 57.5gr has worked well in the last couple I have worked on. Velocities have been around 3150.

    What color cerakote?

All of those colors actually look really good on Firearms. Can't really go wrong any way you choose, but good luck with the decision.

    Powder suggestion

I have always had good results with H4831 or H1000 / Retumbo. One of those three powders about a grain off of max charge will generally run pretty darn well with the 160 class bullets.
