180 yards +-, 6.5-06 127LRX @2980 MV, 1-8" twist, quartering towards. Dropped in tracks. Did not look for bullet as it was a solo hunt and I had much to do... used gutless method and looking between ribs i couldn't make out the lungs on the side facing me at the shot, just a red mass. I was aiming for the top of heart/lung area and appeared to have hit it. The shoulder to brisket depth appeared to be over 30 " so it was a big target

Update... the little 6.5 dropped a big bull in its tracks Monday morning. Very impressed with the performance!

If working with a lapped match barrel, any break in is primarily removing any machining burrs in the throat from chambering process. That only takes cleaning for the first 3-4 shots. A barrel will usually settle in after that, but that will occur whether you clean or not...

Thanks, the Mauser is definitely a looker and shoots great. I used to hunt coues with it, but now that I'm backpack hunting mostly, the M70 is taken out. Backpacking it into the Kachina Peaks Wilderness tomorrow to chase bulls with with one of the 7E peaks hunt tags in hand... Your collection looks pretty good to me. Tinkering is half the fun. -

Bullets that just won't shoot well?
Mike S replied to bustedknuckleinc's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Can't see a max or over max charge blowing up a group like that. My best guess would be a stability issue. Are the holes in the paper round? Even with an 8" twist you may not be running them fast enough with that cartridge to get the spin rate to stabilize them. My second guess would be jacket damage during seating. I understand those bullets have real thin jackets up front. Seems like Casey posted some pictures of really deformed ogives on some long range accubonds he tried seating with too much neck tension. -
Similar situation here. This is an awesome setup, but I just broke in the Rock 6.5-06 barrel on my pre 64 action sitting in a Hunters edge stock with a jewel trigger.

Thanks, they were a little high, but it was almost 100 out so I'm thinking that was an air density thing.

A 500 yard group shot this morning at Phoenix Rod and Gun Club with my 7.5 pound 6.5-06. I'd say they fly fine. Plan to be testing them on elk and Coues shortly...

.270 Win, 49-2x fired Winchester cases $10 FTF North Phoenix or Meet at Bass Pro shops during evening commute. Thanks, Mike

If nothing else, stand the rifle vertical with the action open. The chimney effect helps cool a little quicker. Then shoot your .22 or whatever.

I'll take it per our PMs Thanks Mike

Price drop to $950, please contact Robert with any questions.

I'm thinking you'll like the 5R Rock. Re-barreled with one recently; it shoots great and hardly fouls at all. Never quite understood spiral flutes though... ;-)

For a Rem 700 I'd talk to Bob Brackney in Wickenberg.

I'll stick with earplugs but am curious as to the maintenance for these. Any special service requirements? -

Thanks, I had never heard of this back in my service rifle shooting days.
