I had my Vari X 3 2.5x8 retrofit with a CDS MOA zerostop dial 3 years ago and have been happy with it. It has the zero stop which I like. It's in MOA so I can customize my come ups to the individual load and atmospherics and it has a low profile compared to the M1s . The only downside I see is I only get one revolution of the dial (12 MOA) but that can take me to 700+ yards with any of my loads and that's plenty far for a 7.5 pound hunting rig. I have about 1500 rounds downrange with that scope and have not had any issues.

I put one together on my pre 64 70 last spring after the original .270 fwt barrel was toast, Rock 1-8" 5R #2. Really like it so far, killed a large bull elk with it last fall.. For now I've settled on the Barnes 127 LRX for my hunting load. I've only shot about 250 rounds thru it so far. Friend has a bore scope so I'll check the throat in another hundred rounds or so to see how it looks.

How did this turn out?

Was originally heading to 15DN, but they killed a big one just before sunset... so 15BW is the plan. Rough I know, but someone' s got to do it... :-)

Cool, nice ram for that unit. Here is one from there last year, not mine... I was just fortunate to have the opportunity to help.

I've seen pictures of 3 so far. Heading to 15BW in the morning to help glass...

A 240 XTP would be perfect in my opinion. I've shot 5 with a 250 XTP loaded to 1400FPS in my Freedom Arms .454 without issue. Plenty flat for 75 yards. Pick one standing broadside and aim 1/3 of the way up the collar and you will not waste any meat.

Have a box of 50 I don't need. $25 face to face in North Phoenix area. I work in downtown Mesa so that area could work as well.

I'd be really suspicious of either the chrono itself or the lighting conditions when you took the readings. If you can get out mid day on an overcast day you may see different readings.

Sorry, but I picked him up from the taxidermist Friday...

You will love the 12s. On my 3rd year with them... -
Well done, congrats!

I'd track down a set of headspace gauges. The unfired brass could easily be a little short. Once chamber is verified I'd start looking at dies.

Well done! Congrats.

Thanks, never considered the scope cover idea. Would easily pay for itself in a fall...

Was this in one of the scabbard type packs like an Eberlestock? Just curious as I have never had this issue with my rifle strapped to the side of my Mystery Ranch 6500 or Longbow bags.

I had a CDS MOA dial retrofitted by Leupold to my Vari X 3 2.5-8 a few years ago. I have been very happy with it and the zero stop feature for hunting. No issues with accidental turning including extended backpack hunts where it was strapped to the pack on the way in and out. Like the low profile as compared to the M1 knob. I had the parallax re-set to the longer distance as well.
