Not bad just high maintenance. I have taken several big game animals with them including this operator error elk. Shot in the high hip look at the blood on his right side, it was easy to follow. Three blade rage

A couple of years ago I had a limited opportunity any elk tag in 3b north. I did my due diligence and found two giant bulls, one with ivory white antlers I named Irwin, after a guy I use to work with. After the first weekend I met a nice gentlemen with a foxpro at some elk about mile from where I was normally hunting. We talked after the elk left and he mentioned this was the first elk he had seen and he would be leaving tonight and his hunt was over. I told him I found a big bull about a mile away and pointed in the direction I would be hunting. The next morning the bulls were screaming and I am approaching Irwin and within 50 yards than BOOM my new friend takes a shot, Irwin runs in front of me and stops in the open for a moment (I was in the line of fire and not happy). I had to decide to shoot or dont shoot. I did not shoot. The gentlemen steps out startled to see me and where I was, puts his head down and takes off after Irwin. I was mad at myself for opening my mouth about my scouted spot. Bottom line, the animals we hunt are not the only obstacles we have to keep in consideration. Don't let the human element ruin your hunt.

Honestly, I will use my "soccer wagon" when the mood arises and I want to listen XM or I have to travel (31mpg) and do not need 4wd. Most of the time I do not use camo, I guess I am not a very good hunter. You were by the country club and you did not expect to see urban hunters.

Not to hijack this thread by any means, but how much difference is there between a cow and bull mount. I want to shoot one with my bow also

I sent my last year from Show Low and got one.

I got the late season coon canyon archery hunt last year. No shortage of elk that is for sure. This year I have no interest I want to shoot a bull in June, July or August in one of the otc units.

Hunting with an order of protection - Questions/Thoughts needed

I think your best option is giving me your tag. I will let you know how you do. Or you could email him and ask where he is going to be and avoid those areas. Sounds like you guys could be civil for a few moments before blood is drawn. -
hunted it many times. hint volcano bowls

Went out yesterday evening to bear hunt. Instead I decided to see if I could get into range of these guys. That was kind of easy getting out undetected was harder. Saw four different herds going to this field to eat and water and was in the middle of all of them.
-
Yep I agree. You learn an awful though when you are close. Right now they are less weary not gullible. The ones from this evening. I would like to find the antlers of the middle bull.
-
Agreed and when treated properly and when time permits of course I will give them their desired information. But with that same respect when not treated properly, I will either ignore the requests or they become the brunt of jokes.

Relax, not making fun of noobs as much as the redundant trend of questions. I have taken many noobs to some very good spots for little more than a thank you and a sandwich on a tail gate. Also, at the rate I post I will not be a premier member for another nine or ten years.

You missed a post. The one where they have not shot a bow since their last unit xx september bull tag and need advice on which bow to get.

as long as something has value their will be thieves. brown sheds are going for 12 dollars a pound. Their are more junkies in the white mountains than just about anywhere per capita. My brother once had a elk stolen that he had shot that morning. He caught the guy eventually and made him cry.

No tags for me and only one person I know got a tag. I am kind of glad, i have been wanting a velvet bull for the wall and this will give me the chance to try for one on one of the otc hunts. Forgot to mention I even have bonus points for Javelina.

There is a third component to antler growth where g&f is directly involved and that is Time. I remember a statement put out by the g&f commissioner many years ago and how they have a conservative approach to tags. g&f has deviated from that a bit but the core is still there. I may not be a premier member, but I will put the content I add up against most.

Starting over ... almost 8 years since I've shot

Just out of curiosity Did you get an elk tag? -
To offset some of the crankiness on the this thread get a hold of me the day or so before the season and I will take you to some of the areas I hunt. Everywhere in unit has the potential of a good bull. some of my resume photos. these pics were taken in June, October, and November (anybody can take pictures of elk in september)
-
Trade you info on unit 1 for info on whitetails in Indiana. I am in the unit at least once a week.
-
Maybe game and fish should not release the results until the day they write in the regs, April 20th or so. If G&F was such a big laughing stock then not as many people would want to hunt our elk, deer, sheep, buffalo etc and I could get a tag.

my deer and elk spot had some unusual visitors
