Sorry couldn't resist

The cardinal looks like it has a chip on its shoulder for being a cardinal. It took me a bit to figure out what was wrong with woodpecker.

Funny story about something like that. This is the story they have told me a couple of times. My dad and his friend were shipping out from New Orleans to Vietnam in 1970 or so. They were in a bar and a transvestite was hitting on my dads friend. He told he/she no in a not so nice way. He/she says "there is only one thing I like more than S______ D___ and that is to fight!" He/She then squares up to box, they never told me who won.

This topic definitely snowballed. Some people miss the point though, it is ok NOT to have the same viewpoint as every body else. It is much more interesting when Civilized people have different points of view and discuss with passion and logic. What is not acceptable is when the attacks get personal. Murphy believes poaching is not right under any circumstance. I believe under certain conditions it is NOT morally objectionable. Who is right? The answer is both of us and neither of us.
-
Murphy, look at the irony of you calling a personal attack when you did the same thing at the top of the page to naturegirl. The person I was referring to was a very interesting character and the only interesting thing left about this discussion with you is to see your need for the last word. I will put my hunting skills against yours any day.

Murphy, obviously because you talk louder and more than everybody else you must be smarter than everybody. The gentlemen I was referring to with the 76 elk started at age 8 or 9 and shot his last one at age 72 before passing. Some legal and some otherwise. All my friend said was they were very poor and they needed the meat. I am not a law enforcement officer or an accountant so I did not ask exactly how much money was enough to feed his family or the legality of it. I do know that he mentioned that in the late 40's it was an accepted practice. If I was as smart as you think you are I would have written down the stories he told me and wrote his memoirs, he lived a full life that would have made a great movie.

Gentlemen, Get the popcorn because I am going to pick a fight. Murphy your comments are rude and asinine. You can have a difference of opinion without getting slanderous. She said her only experience was with young man feeding his family. I have known several people that have taken game out of season for a better reason than taking a trophy. One was an older gentleman many years my senior who shot 76 elk in his lifetime some with tags some without. None of the meat went to waste and him growing up on the west slope of Colorado in cattle country never taking the breeding stock. He never shot a cow, calf, spike, or bull above 5 points. Another one is my brother in law who grew up very poor. Simple if they did not have game meat they did not eat. Yet another one an apache friend of mine, had a tag for a cow or calf. I was with him on the reservation when we came up to a spike (not legal that year for the tag he had) he shot it. I said you just shot a spike and he goes "look it was sucking his mother's t_t" This practice is socially accepted on the Rez. Murphy, I find most of your comments self righteous and of little value. I enjoy nature girls post because it reminds me of the journey as a hunter I started many years ago. I do not condone hunting out of season for any reason, but in some cases it is understandable. It is against the law to take game out of season, but isn't a greater crime for an impoverished family to starve.

Big Thanks for the Help!!!

I was daydreaming about hunting sheep one day and I stumbled across the hunt for the specimens in the smithsonian. It talked about hunting sonoran pronghorns and mexicana sheep around Tinajas Altas circa 1922. I have not been able to find it since. Does anybody know where I can find the web address? I have stuck out on mimicking my google search.

I know it is likely a bad idea, but part of me likes the idea. As a dyed in wool archery hunter it will eliminate a lot of the guys that only hunt archery elk because its in the rut and send them back to rifle hunting where they are a better fit.
-
I think this is a good idea, Have the government entity collect more fees/taxes and redistribute to the ones they think need it the most. I think there is precedence and it has worked really great. Oh wait I am on CWT not MSN.

I find there selection methods for the survey suspicious. My daughter has had two drawn tags in ten years of trying and is a casual hunter at best. On access issues, I have yet to find a place I want to go to that I can not without a little extra effort.

My nineteen year old daughter got one. This looks like a money grab. Looks more like a farce than anything.

With that Brut if a white rhino ever runs through your yard you will be ready.

I don't see anybody championing "no practice" on any of these threads.I actually know a few guys (one posts very nice coues deer online every year) and they shoot twice a year; once to make sure the bow is sighted in and once when they kill their deer. They hunts tree stands or blinds and keep all shots under 20 yards so they don't have to practice. Hope that doesn't start off even more controversy. Lol. I agree with idgaf though. It's scary and sad watching some guys shoot at the range and expecting to go hunting in a week or two when they can't hit a pie plate at 30 yards! My only solace is most can't even find deer to fling arrows at... No one would champion no practice in a perfect world. In reality go to any pro shop and ask how many bows they sell the week before season. I will put the over/under on "wounded bull" threads at ten. Whether they mention it or not, Two of the factors being distance and practice
-
I would rather see a guy who practices too much and shoots too far than a guy who buys a bow two weeks before his archery elk hunt. I practice out to a hundred yards or so, but with a twist. I turn my target sideways and put rocks on each side of it. It helps with my focus.

If you are good at what you do there is always some form of hubris when you are doing it. Where guides "go sour" with regular hunters is there attitude towards you hunting in their area. I have run across many guides, some of them sponsors on this website and some I consider friends, in the field and when I am in the area they want to themselves they tell me intimate details of a giant buck or bull only a few miles away from where we are right now. I ask this question (knowing the answer) "why aren't you hunting over there then?" The answer is always the same. To a good guide hunting is a business and a passion, to me as a diy hunter it is just a passion. You as a guide scout "x" amount of days to prepare your business. Me, as a passionate hunter scout "x" amount of days to feed my passion. Similar but different in intent.

I think there are big deer everywhere, its just a question of how many and how easy they are to find. Some of the best hunters i know shoot giant deer and never post it on Facebook or anywhere else so the story and the unit go untold. Get a tag for the area you want and hunt it like a trophy hunt and you may surprise yourself on the outcome. My personal choices are archery 13b (never been there) and 3c rifle(very large bucks and close to home). I have shot at very large deer in non premier units and it wasn't the deer or units fault I couldn't shoot straight.

I am looking forward to the January hunt there.
