Well I got skunked. I passed bucks i shouldn't have. For those that smirked, look up my strip hunt, I am not right in the head. Yesterday, I hiked in 2.5 miles in the dark. got to my glassing spot at the edge of the rez and after an hour and a half found a buck I would be happy with. It had eyeguards that looked longer than my hand. Set up for a shot @431 yards. I actually practiced upto 440 yards in preparation. I setup with a very solid rest, squeezed the trigger and the bucks disappeared. After checking for an hour or so. No signs of a hit, whatsoever. What I learned 1 - there is no rut in December 2 - hunters treat a December coues tag like a September elk tag. With a lot of helpers 3 - setting up for a long range shot solo is very hard 4 - practice shooting angles as much as distance. 5 - be persistent. No matter how boring looking at the same spot is, eventually something will walk by. No regrets. I will go back to still hunting for a bit.

This mornings count. 18 does. Two bucks. One was decent.

I just got to my camp spot 47 degrees and more than a few road hunters. 500 am can't get here fast enough. I figure i have a 2 hour climb to get where I want to go.

Thanks! If its the ranch house I'm thinking about, an old family friend was born in it 80 years ago.

Will do. Most likely, though, i will stick with king anvil. I still want to do some exploring.

36c. When I am hunting for myself with time. I will push the envelope, looking for new areas. I knew the population was low where I was headed, but also knew few people would hunt it and maybe find that older age class buck. Starting tomorrow I will go back to more traditional areas.

Good luck to you, as well.

We caught one big buck adjusting from his sunrise place to the heat of the day and 8-9 mid to smaller bucks opening weekend. We had him at 750 yards with me behind my brothers new long range toy. Just didn't feel right to me and in my head I think I can always find bigger. If i can't find anything better, I will go back to him.

6 days of hunting for me. I've seen 0 movement. Last three days, I hunted, I saw one doe as I was packing up to leave. Back at it tomorrow.

Do you have a time machine? -
I have aged. I will go back to real hunting after this one. I just want to win my bet. If you see me with a 7 prc, shooting at something over a quartermile away. I am not gay, I am just experimenting.

Big thanks! I will suggest it to her. She's a few credits away from her accounting degree.

My apologies for the generalization. I must have missed your company. For future reference, what's the name of your place? In case she loses her interest.

Yeah. I am turning my artist daughter into a taxidermist. When she was caping the head of her elk, I realized this is the medium she needs to be working in. Also, all of the companies up here have a two year wait.

Which tannery do you use? I'm going to try something

I passed a 110 ish buck. I will start again this weekend

I was going to do a semi-live hunt for my late tag, but couldn't get in.

With my knees I felt the difference just taking the tablets. You can also get bone broth on Amazon for 20-30 bucks.
-
My wife and daughter boiled the bones and filtered it. I drank 8 ounces every morning with a collagen tablet for like 5 months straight. I could feel the effects within a few days. (Able to lift my elbow above my shoulder) I did add lemon or lime juice to it to hide the taste

My doctor suggested it. I had no expectations. All I can say is my knees no longer hurt and I can pull back my bow again after tearing two of the four muscles in my rotator cuff. Possibly the placebo effect, but I like the results.

My daughters ended coming out to 5.00 a pound for processing.

We got the grinder from harbor freight for like 50 bucks. So far (since 2020) it's done 8 elk with no issues.
