    How big is this buck?

I think you asking yourself the wrong question. The question you should ask your self is will you be happy with him. My middle brother and my cousin could not be happier with any size deer, my youngest brother can only be happy with the largest. This year I took a 150" 8 or 9 year old buck and could not be happier. A couple of years ago I passed on a 165-170ish buck at 15 steps and could not be happier. It really is up to you. A pic of the buck that some people said I was crazy

I can put you in touch with the WMs up there if you need help. I've worked with the former 13B WM (now Sector Supervisor) for 8+ years on various conservation projects. He'll help you get on birds! Sounds good if you could PM his email address I will send him a note. Thanks Fred

It's official I'm hunting Rios in April. I am the worlds worst turkey hunter, so this will be interesting.
  6. My brother had the after thanksgiving deer hunt in 24a, he did not see anything of quality in a reachable distance the first weekend and he only had Friday to hunt of the final weekend. I let my boss know that I had some sales calls to do and left my office in scottsdale around 1100. meeting my necessary work requirement and then meeting up with my brother around 245. We head out to my secret spot making it around 400 and within a few minutes we see two does and the smallest spike in history. i try to talk him into shooting it but no dice. We glass from the left nipple of the mountain seeing a distant deer on the reservation. I tell him lets go to the other nipple for the final minutes of his hunt getting there about 445 or so. I'm looking for a spot to set up my tripod when i hear him say theres two does. I walk over to where he is and set up. I set my glasses up and see antlers on the smaller buck and he starts setting up for a shot. We glass the other buck and both say shooter. He takes his time sets up, the sun starts its decline past the horizon. The larger buck goes by a large prickly pear and then beds as he was getting sight acquisition. I can feel the clock ticking to darkness. With me spending my work week in the valley and hunting stuff at my home in show low I had very limited hunting resources with me. My brother had borrowed a set of binos and allowed me to use them, swaro's el range. I was considering selling my kids for a set after using them. I range the cactus next to where the buck is bedded and it reads 468. He settles in the prone position and shoots, the deer have no reaction. He aims shoots aqain and the bedded buck kicks hard runs twenty yards or so and stops. He is having a hard time getting on the target (many minutes) and i tell him do you want me to do it and I see him almost hand me the gun. he goes back and forth from another set of binos i have on a tripod back to his prone position. Three more shots and the buck is down with minutes to spare from darkness. Unknown to us due to the cover was the bucks final death run, taking it into a giant hole and prolonging recovery for an hour or so The eight point is a bit of an exaggeration, I was counting the eyeguard. I was wearing the wrong shoes for where we were. The buck in the daytime without the fat guys behind it

    a 24a eight pointer

I use to be somewhat secretive about my spots, but a few years ago I let a friend hunt my favorite lifelong hunting spot. The following week he gave my spot to a couple of his friends. At first I was aggravated but it turns the guys were really cool and I have hunted with them many times since. If you know 24a at all, I have given enough info to go to the exact spot. I bet Amanda and Bonecollector both know exactly where I was.

    Water Purification

My daughter just did her science project on this subject. The sawyer works the best, even better than boiling because it gets rid of smell and the off color.

    Target Panic Cure?

I use to have target panic(on mature animals) to the point I talked a psychologist hunting friend of mind. The solution for me was to simplify. my thought process before I shoot is simple now. pin(yardage), relax, aim, squeeze. At least it works for me, good luck.

    Clothing for Dec.

i cant really comment on the style of camo the majority of animals I have taken I have been wearing shorts or levis. I can say what ever style you wear in December wear in layers, the December desert is both cold and hot pending activity and time of day.

tagged along with my brother and uncle in the first hunt. saw some great bucks, They may open a new mine with all the lead they injected into that unit. My uncle did manage to fill his tag with a 300 yard open sighted off hand ricochet shot on the smallest buck seen.

    Snakes?

I did one of those to my brother. Shot the head off a rattler with him asleep in the back of a truck and not waking up. Put the headless moving snake in his lap and start yelling for him to watch out. He wakes up screams like a girl and then beats me with headless moving snake. We were both covered in snake blood by the time it was done.

    3a/3c deer

Saw a good hard horned buck north of the wind mills. He did not want to pose for pictures. A couple of little bucks look at this little guys configuration kind of cool
  20. The only way I would shoot a 300" bull with a September 3c tag would be in self defense. 12 points would be a fair price for a pack mule though..

    Limited Opt Archery Gold

congrats on a cool bull. anyone ever tell you, you look like jim harbaugh
  22. As a neutral third party observer that has never met any of the parties involved, never had a buffalo tag(14 points), never set foot on the northern kaibab. What the heck happen to this forum? In my day job I am paid to spot trends and it looks like the last several posts have some form of propaganda to them. I am sure the gentlemen guiding is a great guy and does a lot to help the non paying hunters but he is still a guide that gets paid by the success of his clients. By helping the other hunters he is entering into a win/win situation. He knows where the other hunters are and can place his paying customer in the place that gets him the best opportunity. That being said, if/when I draw a tag and choose not to use his services does that make me a bad person. Personally I want to hunt buffalo not sit in tent waiting for them. Hunting success is not as important to me as hunting experience. Or what if I want to use one of the other quality buffalo guides. Last I checked the kaibab is still public land, right?

Is it Legal to use a fox pro to call for elk?

It would be an upgrade over my window based platform phone. Admittedly, I have more respect for the people who have learned the "art" of hunting than the people that use technology for hunting. trphyhntr's new hunting outfit. He had to get the custom build though to hide the love handles.

Is it Legal to use a fox pro to call for elk?

Relax, do your own thing, If you want to use a electric call for elk do it. Imo I think your trophy is not as good as one called in the conventional way. My opinion should not matter to you, but apparently it does.
