Where am I? I must be high

inner basin of the peaks. I got the wild hair to hunt it over the weekend, Good idea, poor execution. I very likely picked the worse day to hunt it. It was like an open audition for the cover of outside magazine. All the pretty people were there and then there was me, I got some serious stinkeye carrying a bow among them. T

Anybody ever try it? See anything? I am planning a backpack hunt for next weekend and was considering moving it to the peaks from unit 27.

    above az's timberline

Do you know if you can stay overnight just outside of the interior basin? I am leaning towards going (pending weather) that way over 27, apparently, all of the deer have died from diabetic comas from all the salt they have ingested. From what some of my friends have been telling me.

    Road Hunting, Still Illegal

Talking to a couple of wardens; One of them said Road hunting is not illegal, shooting from the road is illegal. The other said if your bow is uncased I will write you a ticket. I said, write the ticket and I will see you in court and lets see who wins. No tickets were written.

    Help with first archery deer

This ^^^^ is exactly how simple it is. People have been reading spot & stalk articles about Arizona and about coues & mule deer for so many years that they think it's the only way to hunt. It can be an effective way, no doubt, but it's a much more challenging method than sitting an ambush. If you just want a first deer, and don't really care about antlers, literally all you have to do is find a spot that shows signs of good deer traffic and has good cover for you to hide in and sit tight. I've had to sit for 3 days straight before, but eventually you will get your shot. If you can't sit still that long and you're one of those that always end up meandering around looking for a 'better' spot, than the problem is not your location: it's you. And you've probably got a really long hard road ahead of you before you connect. Good luck to you & keep at it! I rarely sit still and have good success. So there is still hope for the hyperactive
  16. Let them decide. My daughter will shoot anything that has antlers,my nephew on the other hand, will only shoot the biggest animals in the unit.

    Got 13b rifle tag

Interesting thread with no right/wrong answer on guided or unguided. Ask yourself this question "what am I looking for in this hunt?" Is it the largest deer possible, If that's the case get one of those guides with a hundred cameras, a dozen drones, and spotters on every vantage point. Or are you looking for the satisfaction of doing it yourself, now if thats case don't be afraid to go home with the "average" strip buck or even with an unfilled tag. Back to the oringinal question, I spent seven days turkey hunting in April/May in 13b. I saw a great deal of deer on Black rock Mountain and its only 45 miles of dirt road to st george. If/when I get this tag I will not hire a guide and I may even hunt solo. I do not consider an unfilled tag failure.
