Pros and cons speaking as a Show Low Resident Pros Hunting within minutes Fishing better than average traffic issues nothing like the valley overall very friendly people Cons No good places to eat (lame steak place, mexican fast food, weak chinese, pizza and thats it) Minimal urban activities to do public servants incredible self righteous Limited shopping capabilities cause artificially high prices at the grocery store bad cell service (especially on holidays and summer weekends) 3 hours to anywhere (everywhere you go is at least three hours away) very clickish based on religious, social and ethnic standings But if you are still interested I will very likely have my home for sale this year. good luck on your choice

I'm not much of a score guy, but I did get a little curious when the official SCI scorer moved some of the width measurements because abstract horn was in the way. It was my understanding that you were to go directly over the 'the bumps' Could somebody with more expertise clarify for me?
-
score is already forgotten. I was more curious on the procedure than the score. should have back in a few months and I'll post a pic. Thanks
-
Thanks for clarifying. I was unsure on the process. My taxidermist insisted I get it registered (I was also curious). I just did Sci because the scorer is a friend of my cousin. The final score was 83 and change with two + inches of bumps not included. Ranking it 24th in SCI for archery. If there was a non typical category it would have killed it.

When's the last time they had a 27 antelope hunt? I think they stopped it in 2013. it started as 27S and then they allowed it unit wide for a bit. Found the pic
-
You drew a unit 27 lope tag? Dam, you are lucky. Got it the first year they had it. 4 guys from the safford area and me. There was a giant we were all after and several great bucks. One of the bucks was taken out by lion as I watched it go over a hill. I have a picture somewhere.

I've had 5 archery antelope tags in Arizona since 2000. 2 in 3bN, 1 in 3bS, 1 Unit 1, 1 Unit 27.

I don't think they are a subspecies. I think you are thinking of the sonoran antelope. I could be wrong, but I think they are further south. I'm hoping they are the Chihuahuan pronghorn (A. a. mexicana). I know the Sonoita units have them. The Sonorans start about Buenos Aires and go west from there.

Does anybody know what subspecies of Antelope are in 31/32?
-
tried it one year. Take a machete (i'm not kidding)
-
just curious what the common consensus is.

If all things were equal than the traditionalist side would have an even more lopsided following. By mentioning size it brings nuance/degrees to the equation. Obviously, by increasing your kill radius by a half mile (880 yards) in each direction you will have the opportunity at larger animals. By limiting the buck to a forky for the traditional side it gets your mind wondering if it's the hunt or the animal that's the trophy.

Wow, I took a Cwt'er elk hunting yesterday and this 'poll' blew up. Many of the post recently have been "My ____ got it done today at xxx yards" and I wanted to see if that's what/where current hunters mindsets are. Poll essentially is The science of shooting VS the art/craftsmanship of hunting.
-
and ADHD takes over...Nope, your choices are just narrow minded. If I had to choose it would be the deer with the rifle. I wouldn't shoot a forky. the scope is narrow. this was intended to see opinions on short range primitive and long range technical. This was not intended for you to give your view on great shots. you can create your own poll for that.

and ADHD takes over...

yep both end with the same killing shot. trying to keep it as unbiased as possible with all the factors being the same

Never hunt the late hunts, they suck. True hunters only hunt archery in September. Btw here are a few pics of the bulls I passed up this weekend
-
Now that all of the big bulls have been taken by the watermarked professionals or the Uber Archers that will not touch their bow again until their next early season elk tag, its time to see if I can find one bull that is mature. Just a bit to early for good pictures I couldn't get pics of the bigger bulls, but it was a fun morning.

gonna look in the cedars this afternoon
-
A couple from this morning. Not quite shooters

Saw the Elk rutting hard in Unit 1 last week. I also saw full size bulls with cows in 3b in July. I sort of think its always been that way and we are now just taking notice.

Quick Scalie Hunt
idgaf replied to azbirdhunter88's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Did you go to any of the spots we discussed? -
My goal is the largest bull in unit 1 that I can find. The area I checked did not have a hunter and I saw over 100 cows and twenty bulls. It was a several mile walk. I will check a couple other hard to get to places in my quest.

Found these guys over the weekend in 36a. Carpeted overshoes and full camo

Another picture that I downsized and got to fit.
