Newly Approved Hunter Ethics Course for the Bonus Point
idgaf replied to rossislider's topic in The Campfire
Cameras are bad. Whatever these idiots say is correct. Here's 150 bucks do I have to watch the video? -
Since you are quoting me, I'll answer Do you really think wounding animals is limited to a particular weapon type? This is a difference of opinion on hunting styles. No one is getting berated. We were not talking about legality. We all know what's legal and like you said ethics are a personal choice. If an open sighted hunter caps his shooting ability at 100 yards, I contend the wound percentage is the same as a scoped muzzy hunter at 250. Without doing a study and zero research on the subject. I will also say that getting close is a much more difficult skillet to master than long range shooting. I've taken one shot from my nephews 5k gun at 1006 yards hit the target and walked away. For the record. I have taken antelope, elk, lion, coues, muley, bear, turkey, javelina without the use of any of the above electronics with my bow and my bison was 80 yards with a rifle solo without that stuff. Once again this a difference of opinion and subjective. Nothing more.
-
Hunters also have been honing their craft in that time to become more skilled as hunters. To get closer and use their skill to take their target. Theirs no crying/complaining just a difference of opinion on the rules intent. My hunting partners and I get into a similar discussion a couple of times a year. They are all long range hunters and I am just as happy for them for their success as if they shot it close. I do rib them about their skills. If we still had wooly mammoths, I would be down with a half dozen companions, loin cloths, and spears for a bucket list hunt.
-
I would contend the wound ratio is less than a hunt where people are shooting 250 yards at animals. Technology has taken alot of the skill out of hunting.

I'm in on the Atlatl. There needs to be a season. Easy money for g&f and real hunters could show their stuff.
-
I killed a coues at 27 paces a few years ago.
-
the one on the top. Because I like hunting Javelina. I don't like killing Javelina.
-
And I'll use a 40 lb recurve and get the same result. This is nothing more than a discussion. You give yourself to much credit that people value your opinion.
-
This is simply a modern day campfire discussion about what constitutes a rifle. The game animal matters very little. If anyone is butt hurt over this, they have had a very easy life.
-
Back to the spring draw for a second. Is the percentages better for bull or yearling in 5a?
-
I think mandatory reporting will happen with the institution of electronic tags they will be going to.
-
Simple if you see someone putting that to their shoulder you think rifle.
-
The ar pistol in the first picture can be put to the shoulder. That's why I'm curious.
-
What's that butt on the end considered? Forearm grip?
-
Forgive my ignorance, but can you guys tell me how these are classified as handguns? I'm just curious.
-
I'll take it @MoneyMike where do I venmo my money too?

when an average hunter gets a strip tag. In the field updates
idgaf posted a topic in Mule Deer Hunting
I am a pretty average hunter and a below average gear guy, I use 150 dollar binoculars that I bought ten years ago. I usually use the two second rule in judging if its a shooter or not. Listening to Jay Scott Podcast, I hear him use the term 'cream' quite a bit. If Jay is the cream, I am more like grounds. To use a fishing analogy he would be in the private boat with a captains chair and my preference would be swigging coors lights on a party boat learning from other guys swigging coors lights. For the most part I do not like waiting for tags with this exception, I wanted to hunt the AZ strip once in my life. I will post daily as cell service allows my views and pics from 13b. People keep telling me I need to get a guide or buy a scouting package. Although I am sure it would help with my success, I consider hunting to be a test of what I know and what my intended quarry knows, (that and two daughters college tuition payments pretty much rules out buying anything) Here are some pics from my scouting. Big shout out to shane koury for helping me decide what a shooter is this year and pointing me in the right direction to check. First Buck seen Too cute not to stop and take a pic First real bucks A big three in the afternoon MY bison hunt sucked the majority of my vacation so my intention is to hunt the first few days then ten days starting just before labor day weekend. either my failure or success will be epic.- 366 replies

My friend waited 20 years for this tag. After some lack luster scouting trips. Him and my brother called me. I told them because of the giant deer I will be there anyway so sure I will help. Day 1 they are on the west end so I go to east end. From the highway I see this guy they see two does. I text a couple of pics and go to an undisturbed spot and catch 5 more small bucks The afternoon we go together see some small far off bucks Next morning they are back to the west and I go to east end. See the same buck from the morning previous and after a couple of fruitless hours he decides to make a play on it. We get to 423 yards and the wind changes. Than it's a track race that we lose between the antelope, a jeep that see the commotion and a herd of elk. That evening we find a giant after watching 3 sxs trying to herd a group to their hunter. Sunday my friend and brother look for that big one and I look for that original buck (now missing) and then take side roads from Heber to Holbrook. BTW you would be surprised at the amount of elk by Holbrook. Monday rolls they go in the big ones area and I look for the original buck. They find some antelope and more hunters the meet me mid morning. We sneak in to 318 yards and nerves get the best of him We track them for about 3/4 of mile than they spook into the trees By luck we get to 180 yards. I thought rifle hunting would be easy 20210906_105615_1.mp4
