In today's hunting world you have to put ballistic in front of silvertip to make it acceptable.

So under you logic everyone that uses a lever action from 1880 to the 1980 has done it wrong. Sometimes you just run into a tough animal and this was the case. I think I hit him six times including the two ending shots. The first two would have definitely been fatal if I wanted to wait the traditional 30 minutes and start tracking. It was too hot to do that. Also under your logic I would be way out of bounds this archery season, I'm using a 45 lb 60 year old recurve simple because I want the challenge. If I were using my standard compound I would have filled my turkey tag this evening. But 23 yards was at the edge of my range with a recurve. I am also going to new mexico next month and using a 54 cal percussion muzzleloader with round balls. You really don't want to get measuring contest with me. I have tagged 29 big game animals with my bow, including three archery antelope. Maybe another 10 or 12 with rifle or muzzleloader. 9 of 10 of the big 10 (8 archery) all solo. Guess what with modern ammo my bison took 4 perfectly placed rounds. It's not the ammo as much as placement as sometimes you just run into a tough animal.

You obviously haven't killed very many animals. The last two years I have been part of 10 successful elk hunts and everyone of them had varying degrees of desire to live. This one was very tough. . Do you really think for a second my intent wasn't to humanly dispatch the animal? That's why I was shooting. My first two shots would have been fatal but I wanted to humanly dispatch the animal. And while you irritated me enough to go on a rant. I don't think your form of hunting is ethical. Shooting an animal at a distance where he can't use is defenses is not hunting.

Since I was going old school with the rifle, I went old school with ammo. 150 grain Winchester silver tips.

Hatch Green Chili Source?? (EXTRA HOT / HOT)

Yeah, all she was missing was the highway patrol hat and a stick whip and she could run an Alabama chain gang. I miss those tamales.

Hatch Green Chili Source?? (EXTRA HOT / HOT)

This takes me back to my childhood and my grandmother breaking any child labor law there ever was. We would grease each chili in crisco, roast them on a wood stove with mesquite in August in tucson. Then husk corn for what felt like days. Those were the easy parts and then grind corn by hand until me and my brothers had arms that look like something out of he-man. She would make 100 dozen tamales at a time.

    E-tag

Speaking from experience, it still gives you the tag number. I imagine it's the same as losing your wallet or backpack with your tag

    Deer tags. (In mail?)

Surprisingly, I got my tag the other day. I am signed for etags for close to a year now.

I've done it the last three seasons. 1st season, I got a depredation tag, which I filled. Last year, I missed a bunch with my pistol, switched to my crossbow and found a bull that i really wanted but couldn't close the deal. This season I've helped four people fill their tags, including myself. It's a 3030.

My dog is different. He could care less. I actually watched him sniff a cotton tails nose. His obsession with fighting rocks is real and this is the first time ever when we stopped and he wasn't growling at them.

I saw something leave and this little guy come down from the tree he was maybe 3 foot uo in. He got tired and lied down 20 yards from me. I only stayed a few minutes maybe. I have already had dealings with a rabid bobcat. Don't want to do it again.

Shooting a bull when it's 90 degrees outside is a lot of work. I've been hunting close to home for the most part with the occasional excursion to the greatest unit. Seeing more than a few elk. Until today, i had my standards pretty high and passed up maybe 20 spikes and small bulls. The area I liked themost got hit hard by a couple of professional hunters and you may have seen the bulls they took on ig or Facebook. That being said my normal area was devoid of elk the last couple of days. Mostly from insomnia and little from curiosity I went to the greatest unit ever this morning with determination of shooting the first branch bull I see. My dog gave me a guilt trip so he came along for the ride. We get to our spot maybe 30 minutes after first light and start walking. 10 or twenty minutes after leaving the truck I spot a calf and few other non bulls. We get closer and for the first time ever my dog is not growling at rocks he's picking fights with. Then all of sudden an antlered bull sticks his head out for a moment 65 yards away and disappears just as quickly. I wait maybe 10 minutes, maybe 20 minutes, honestly idk, he comes out broadside at 60 yards. I am shooting a 1948 marlin off handed that I picked up from cwt member. (Apologies I forgot your handle) My first shot, no reaction, second shot no reaction, chambering of third shot he starts to cantor off and I go full.john Wayne shooting everything he's in an opening. I go to where my first 3 shots were and I find blood instantly. The herd climbs the hill opposite of me without my target in tow. i start following the blood trail thinking hes within a few dozen yards. Not the case, at all , I follow and the blood trail actually gets bigger for once. After an unknown distance and time, I catch up. He stumbles up and I put two more rounds into him, one behind the shoulder and the ending shot in the neck. I think this is my 10th elk and first with a rifle.

    Taxidermy/gun/ammo auction on 7/15/23

https://www.proxibid.com/Flagstaff-Auctions/Hendricks-Firearm-and-Ammo-Sale/event-catalog/244483 Better link. This gentleman really liked nice things. I had been bidding on over/under, but I'm too poor for where the price went.
  19. I know they're some grain silos in the area. (I Designed the electrical services for them) fortunately I kept a couple of customers/friends in the area that can help me with access.
  20. I think I've seen some in a residential cotton field in Pima once. Honestly, I don't know the difference between them and blue herrings.
  21. I cleaned up my inbox. You would be surprised how many people want my opinion on bison, 4b antelope, and otc elk.
  22. I have questions as well. I am the worst bird hunter ever. Are sandhill crane now considered a big game species? I have unit 28, Should I focus on the north half or south half of the unit?
