Congrats. I think most of us took a Cow as our first Elk.............BOB!

Easy drive. I just drove over or around 7000 miles going fro N. Dakota to AZ. for my elk hunt and to Phoenix to see friends and family. Then when I got back to Dakota ,Mom passed away in Pa last week. So I was of to PA. I been home 3 days and feel like I am still driving. Good luck.................BOB!

Well today was Moms funeral here in Pennsylvania,and all went as well as could be. At the cemetery it was a beautiful fall day ,perfect weather in the rolling green hills with leafs falling from the tree like we ordered it. Lots family from all over came in. Mom was a saint. Everybody loved Her. She had 87 years. Dad is 95 and doing ok but forgets alotta stuff. IL"L spend a few days with Him then head home. First time I lost anybody close to Me and wasn't fun. Thanks to those who have supported Me thru this tough time. Amen and God bless. Time for a rum and coke now to celebrate Her life......BOB!

Thanks for all the kind comments all. It was a blast. Had a great time. A big thanks to Sir Royal as I had never stepped a foot in unit 10. Iv'e been on 3 other bull hunts since I last killed one in 96 and got scunked on all 3 cause I held out for the biggie. I wasnt going home scunked on this one. Very happy with this bull ,even with small fronts the backs and mass and length are great. Thanks everyone.................BOB!

Having just drove to Casper 5 days ago I say the best route is american airlines!. Stay on the freeways... OH ,and I drive for a living so that is profesionall advice LOL..............BOB!

Ok, Lark hit it on the head. When I saw this Elk and My Mentor said shooter ,Kill him,I went into another zone. Ranged him at 406 and let it rip. All along Sir Royal was saying wait, he's got small fronts, but I never heard him. I was in a zone of my own. Whack, one shot had him staggering but I put one more in him to make sure. 300 win mag is nasty. Elk didn't stand a chance. And I only had it on 4 power as we were chasing him in the junipers at daybreak. That is the end of the hunt on the 4th morning. Had a Great time, even tho the bulls were staying in junipers till dark, and going back in in the morning early. They quit bugling at day break too. They knew never nervous Bob was in the woods. Opening hour of the hunt we passed a 350+ bull. A few 370 type bull were seen but at long distance glassing. Sat on a tank one nite where a 380 was seen the nite before and only a 320 and a raghorn came in. A Buddy glassing on top of the hill behind us said a herd with 2 good bulls was coming to the tank up a valley but were still half mile away at dark. Thats what they were doing. Coming in late. We played with 8-10 bulls in the thick junipers at ranges of 25 to 50 yards and could not get them to peek out and say HI!. I am very happy with this Bull and had a great trip home. Got to see some family in the valley too. Can't to move back. Set next year as the goal. Gotta sell a dang Mobile home I bought here and nothing is selling now with low oil prices. You Guys don't realize how Beautifull AZ. is until You been gone for awhile. A big thanks to Sir Royal and his Cousin for helpin Me out. At 59 I had some trouble keeping up at times. Can't wait for next tag. It won't be 19 years tho this time. I will post some more pics later. just got home from an all niter at work. still catching up on sleep. Well, its 1:30 am here in N. Dakota. been home a half hour. Drove over 1700 miles the last 2+ days. Visited a buddy in Casper last nite . A little out of the way ,but worth it to see my Wyoming connection. Rained today the whole way from Casper to Minot. Made for a long day. Rumor has it I harvested and that is true. Very nice Bull. Pics and story tomm. This old man is bushed after lots of hiking and driving. Can't wait to hear the story. Good Night...............BOB!

Packin everything up and leaving in the AM. I am finally pumped. It took till yesterday to get excited. Gonna take My time and get there some time Monday. Can't wait till Friday. First 370 type bull is going down. Hope they aint to broken up. If I get one I might post a picture here, but kinda afraid of gettin beat up.Going to rain again first part of the week, dont know if hunting water has been any good in archery season. Anybody know how unit 10 has fared? I think some buddies are meeting Me up there to spot. Hope it works out after 19 years of waiting . Tommorow is My Dads 95th birthday too. He is in Pa. where He lived all his life. Wish He could of been in camp. Hope to go see Him next couple a months with a big Bull story. Thanks for teaching Me to Hunt Dad. Will always have great memories as a kid with You and late uncle George in the hills of Pennsylvania hunting out of that old trailer. I will report a kill if and when.
