-----or offer them two steps toward the door like Lynyrd Skynyrd suggests!

I guarantee most are for deer. I have a 23 N spring bear tag and have found 15+ stands in the past few weeks and there are only 50 tags in the unit for bear. I'm hard pressed to believe that I have run into that many bear hunter's stands. Most hunters only have one or two stands, if any. They are probably deer stands that people are too lazy to take out of the woods after the hunt... I'd sit them and just explain myself if anyone came up. Most people are chill as long as you aren't confrontational back. I wouldn't take some one's down unless it was clearly abandoned though (like rusted through and clearly from the 1970's). I'd be pissed to find my stand on the ground and another guy in "my tree". I'd rather see him in my stand personally. Always have a plan b to move to though! I never ran into another bear hunter on that hunt in two straight years, but also found a number of tree stands. Did you find any fresh bear sign in 23N with all of your exploration yet?

I do most of my hunts solo. As stated elsewhere, you have half the chance of screwing up and only half the human scent without a buddy around. However, it is nice to have someone around for safety and sharing the work load. I had that hunt last year and sat water for two days...very boring, but did have a bull come in, but I scared him off while drawing back my bow. You should do well.

Predator Called Spring Bear - The Anomaly
kidso replied to kidso's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
A search was made this past weekend. Hoped that crows, ravens, and vultures would help locate the body, as they did 20 years ago when I lost another bear. But, no such luck this time around. Thanks to all for the positive comments and good luck to the rest of the spring tag holders! Weather is warming up! -
Man, that would make a beautiful bear rug!

Is the first bear a blonde, or did the sun angle bleach the photo out?

Predator Called Spring Bear - The Anomaly

Sorry, but I disagree. My 20 years of hunting bears have taught me that when a bear runs...it RUNS!!!! And when it runs, it covers serious ground. That bear was long gone after 20 minutes. Heck, I could have tracked that bear after 10 minutes and it would have made NO difference. I only waited 20 minutes to allow my heart rate to normalize so I could properly "stalk" its sign just far enough to determine if it went on the rez, as that was the direction in which it veered. If you know how to properly stalk your quarry, it is quite easy to do so on a wounded animal without "pushing it" at all. Don't hop, skip, jump, nor whistle "Dixie" while tracking it and understand that "wait time" is very subjective and depends on many circumstances and variables associated with the situation. A one to two hour wait time is a nice textbook answer, but it does not always apply.- 37 replies

Predator Called Spring Bear - The Anomaly

I called the WMAT Fish and Game today and explained the situation with my bear. They were total professionals and great ambassadors for their soverign nation. They have an agreement with the state to allow hunters to retrieve game legally struck on state lands that cross into their jurisdiction. However, call the tribe first and a game officer will meet you at the location where the event occurred so you can show that the game was hit on state land first. They will accompany you and help you retrieve your wounded game. Great information for future hunts!! Great tribe!! -

I thought about all these possibilites, and although it was a sweet hit, the blood sign on the ground was scarce as it was absorbed by the bear's thick hair. Thus, it would require bear dogs to finish the deal and I figured tribal G&F would not be open on Sunday, and all the meat and hide would be spoiled and slipping by Monday even if such a party could be organized with dogs and handlers. Without being able to save the meat and hide, I decided there was no point in pursuing the issue. However, I may ask, just to gain knowledge for future reference. By the way, a little bird did follow the bear onto the rez, just to make sure it hadn't expired "just around the bend." -
Gotta love the jag pics!! They always make me a tad bit jealous and cause me to drool a bit before recovering! Heard that the G&F are planning on naming this jag Macho L, in your honor, and in an attempt to gain access to your SD cards. I think you need to beat them to the patent office and protect your family name! On a serious note, have you ever captured a daylight photo of any of your jags, or have all pictures been shot at night?

6'8" Boar DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
kidso replied to bowhuntaz1's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
One of the few rifle spring bears I've ever seen posted. Great job! -
Hand or electronic call? I love the .300 win mag, great caliber for bear and lion. Great achievement!!

Had a buddy in 22N and 23N this past weekend. No bear sign, but tons of water. Water will not be a variable for another month or two. Bears will start appearing in numbers once the OTC spring bear hunt closes at the end of April. It typically works out that way each year to the bears' advantage.

22 north late archery bull. Wife drew her first tag, rifle cow 22 north, October.

Not even a fox? How many stands did you call?

That is exciting to harvest your first lion! I took both of my lions with a 30-.06, and there was no damage done that the taxidermist couldn't fix with a needle and thread! Excellent meat too!

I love the spring archery hunt, but only caught that hunting bug three years ago. I tagged one after calling it in 3 years ago, 2 years ago, I missed two shots on the same bear while sitting water, and last year (thanks to all the road closures due to fire threats and "bear attacks") my 22 spring archery hunt was essentially all but ruined. In my opinion, the longer the spring archery hunt lasts into its season, the better your chance is for tagging a bear as they will move around and forage more for food and water as the air temperature continuees to increase.

Wife and I both scored an elk tag independently.

Foldng camp cot with vinyl type cushion pad. Probably about 6.5 feet or 7 feet long. Folds in half. Probably better for kids than adults, although I used it for years as an adult before getting an "outfitter" style folding cot. Has springs for support and a light weight aluminum frame. $10. WTT: Native Spirit Tobacco/ Loose Leaf Tobacco/Bugler Tobacco
kidso posted a topic in Classified Ads
I have accumulated LOTS of tobacco through my associations. However, I do not smoke. Most of it is loose leaf, roll your own tobacco. I have maybe 80 packs of Native Spirit, 40 Bugler, and 20 little cloth sacks similar to the old Bull Durum bags. Not real sure, as I have never counted them, but I have 5 plastic shopping bags worth and 20 or so miscellaneous cigarette packs. Anyways, I'm cleaning house and looking to trade. If you smoke, this might be a good deal for you. Maybe a years supply of tobacco? Looking to get a few boxes of ammo for my 300 win mag. I shoot Winchester Super X 180 graih power point CXP3 for large, heavy game. But am open to other hunting/camping gear or ammo for trade. Also have .22 rifles, .38 specials, .40 pistols, .410 gauge, 12 gauge and 20 gauge shotguns if you WTT other ammo. I also shoot Remmington 180 grain express core-lokt rounds for a .30-06 rifle. -
I have 10-12 hardly used Samsung U10 FlashCams. I used them indoors on tripods to record plant growth for a science experiment. Shoot 10 Megapixel pictures or record video in full HD that is Internet ready. Research this on-line and you will see that this is a super deal at $40. Will throw in a tripod, software disk, charger, and connectors as shown in the picture. Great digital camera/camcorder to throw in your pack to photograph your trophies. Call or text Keith at 480-231-4654. Little vieo clip on the model.
