  1. About 12 years ago while calling for bear in the White Mountains, I called in the biggest and ugliest coyote I had ever laid eyes on! The beast was lucky that I had not replaced my factory trigger with something having a more "sensitive pull" or I would have been in a dilemma on how to remove its radio collar so I could get its skin tanned!le I no longer bear hunt in that section of the state because the Timney trigger on my rifle could get me into trouble!

    Trail Cam Pics

The way that little blonde is bent over --forming that arch in his shoulder-- is quite reminiscent of a grizz! Very neat picture. Did you happen to get a photo of the other bear's head? He looks larger.

    Bear 22 and 23n

Rust and red. Two beautiful colors! Did you snap a photo by chance?

    Bear 22 and 23n

What colors were they? Did you snag any pictures?
  5. That is a great testimony for the 100 grain Tritons. Not that you had much of a trail to follow, do you typically get "decent" bloodtrails with the Tritons?

    Bear 22 and 23n

I called a stand and a few hours later returned through the same spot and had a fresh pile of bear dung exactly where I had cleared some small brush away to sit on the ground! They are indeed a clever quarry! What size tracks were they?
  7. I received a few communications regarding people who have used the 100 grain Wac ems on elk with no problem. I admit, i was fooled by their small appearance, especially after just switching out from my G5 Stinger Magnums with their 1.5 inch cutting diameter! But, i think i will try them if the QAD Exodus does not match their performance. Can't wait until Saturday to try the Wac ems at 80 and 90 yards!

    Bear skull

Put a real oak log with bark on it on top of your rock.
  9. I have 6 Carbon Express Maxima Red arrows I just bought on ArcheryTalk to try shooting 350 spine arrows to compare with my current 400 spine arrows. They are cut to 28.5 inches in length. Nothing wrong with them, but the 400 spine arrows work better for me. $60 for the half-dozen. PM if interested. I will put them back on ArcheryTalk if no one has an interest here. Would trade Easton Axis ST arrows with 400 spine. Also, 3 broadheads for sale. 100 grain QAD Exodus full fixed blade. Only shot twice into a big block target to discover they did not match the field tip flight for my set up. $30 for all three together.
  10. The first carbon arrow I went to after using the standard aluminum shafts for 20 years was the Axis ST. I liked the feel of their narrower diameter and that is the only carbon arrow I have ever used until I tried the Carbon Express Maxima Reds a week or two ago. Their wider diameter felt awkward to me because I am so used to the narrower Axis shafts. I agree that either shaft size can deliver great groups. In the end, however, they didn't fly was well as the Axis did for my set up, so I am selling them off. How far out did your Wac Ems fly true to your field points?
  11. Agreed. But the Wac Ems are only 1 and 1/32 inch diameter and I was hoping for something a bit larger in size that was also that accurate with my bow/arrow set up. I just may stick with the Wac Ems if they continue to show good agreement with my field tips at 80 and 90 yards.

Should I switch to a drop away?

I used a whisker biscuit for about 5 years and upgraded with a new bow 3 or so years ago and it had a drop away rest. I loved that too and had zero problems with either type. It was the rip cord code red, or something like that. I upgraded last month and my new bow has a NAP apache drop away rest, and it is my favorite by far. Much better arrow containment than the code red style, but not the ultimate containment provided by a whisker biscuit. On my biscuit, the arrow containment hole began to enlarge over time, which affected my groupings. Dont know how commonly that occurs, but it happened to mine.

    Another Premium Elk Tag

Nice draw. I believe I drew the same premium elk tag, since it was my 2nd choice. First choice was an archery rut hunt, so who knows?
  14. As a school teacher, I work with uninformed kids every day. My job is to teach them the Common Core State Standards (which are now nationalized). However, I also teach them American core values (of my own flavor) so they can grow up to be honest and productive citizens. When 9-11 rolled around last September, I put up my giant 10 foot long "We will always remember" mural in the hallway outside my door. Another teacher approached me, scoffed, and loudly sighed, "Are you going to teach that again!" And I emphatically replied, "Yes, again and again and again. Year after year after year. As long as I am a teacher I will teach what happened to America on that date, just as I will continue to teach what happened to America on December 7th, 1941! Our schools are the breeding grounds for liberal policies and ideologies where "might is never right" and the "shame and blame" should always be on America. It frustrates me to no end, but I always get my way (even if I do it sneakily) in the classroom and am enabling "free" thinkers who will hopefully not turn out to be John Dickinsons or Benedict Arnolds, but true patriots who will place their hearts and actions in the right place.

    Finally got one!!!

Foxes are fun. They are the number one responder when I call for bear. I throw sticks and rocks at them to spook them off when they approach. Have you had one "bark" at you yet?

    I'm gonna be a daddy

That's better than tagging a 400+ bull at 100 yards with an arrow...blindfolded!!! Congratulations!!
  17. Yes. I stewed it in the crock pot for dinner, but the "wrong" wife at the time refused to partake of it, as she would not lower her standards to partake of squirrel meat. She asked me to prepare her a club sandwich instead, which I tenderly did, along with several thin slices of squirrel meat carefully hidden between some ham and turkey!!! That marriage did not last, but the "right" wife and I just reached our 10 year anniversary this week!!
  18. Back in the day, while attending grad school at the U of A, I was heading north on Oracle Road near the fancy El Conquistador Resort and Spa when I ran over a large ground/rock squirrel crossing the road. I stopped, as did the wealthy lady who was driving a fancy Cadillac behind me. The squirrel was going into convulsions in the middle of the road and the lady got out of her car and started to cry. She asked me what as I was going to do as I opened the rear hatch on my Blazer. I told her that I was going to take care of everything, and I gently placed the squirrel in the back of my vehicle. She then asked if I was going to take the squirrel to a clinic to be properly cared for. I replied that I would properly take care of the squirrel myself in the kitchen. Her eyes grew as large as saucers in disbelief and I knew she was about to say something in protest. So I quickly shrugged my shoulders and said, "Dinner!" Then, dashed off into my driver's seat and took off while she hurriedly punched numbers into her cell phone. It was only a squirrel, but I would have done no less if I ran over a squirrel anywhere, regardless of its size or color. Squirrel stew, its what's for dinner at my place!

    Unit 3c OTC spring bear

You can hunt bear spot and stalk, running dogs, predator calling, or sitting water in 3C. Great unit for all of those hunting types. However, not many bears are ever harvested from any unit during the March OTC hunt. It is just a nice little money maker for the G&F, which I continue to pay while I'm out setting trail cams just in case I run into one that that early in the season. Some may be out, but usually not many.
  20. I was wondering where all of our wildlife had migrated!

    first time calling

Try it with a hand call too. It is a double rush when you power the call with your own lungs!! Either way, though, a downed coyote is a downed coyote. Hope you can get one soon!

Our Bighorn Sheep Slaughter Made Fox News

Please, don't forget that both of these individuals are hunters and do enjoy hunting just as much as the rest of us. Being critical of government agencies has long been a favorite past time of liberty-lovers on this American land, and if you do not speak your mind, the status quo will never change. We all know the Arizona Game & Fish isn't perfect, but we trust they are doing their best to manage our public wildlife...and when we feel they are not doing their best, it is almost an obligation that we as a sportsmen speak out in efforts to redirect their policies. Some of us are just more passionate than others in how we speak or how we come across to others, even if we do put our feet in our mouths every now and then. But, none of us, who truly love to hunt, would ever turn tail and pull a Benedict Arnold on our sporting community, including these two firecrackers. BOOM!! BOOM!!
