Any pics of that beautiful boar on the ground or skinned to show his colors?
-
Love that bear too! Great variety of meat cuts there!
-
I was waiting for a bear to stop by the ripening cactus fruit!

Was the color phase bear with the sun glinting off its coat a sow?

Selling my smaller Bosch mixing system. Comes with a bread hook for kneading and whisk paddles for mixing. Also included is the separate slicer/shredder attachment, and the MEAT grinder attachment. Nice system for grinding your game meats from smaller animals like javelina and coues. We have a larger Bosch Universal system, which is why I no longer need this smaller more compact version. Complete package for $60 or will trade for two 500 bricks of .22LR ammo. Near Chandler Fashion Canter. Call, text, or email if interested. Keith 580-231-4654

Some beautiful color phase bears are coming from the southern units for sure! Pat Feldt recently guided an archery client down south to a sweet yellow-rust colored bear that I definitely covet. That could have been one of the boars.

Maybe. All female harvests contribute to a unit closing. Not sure what the quota was for that unit?

Whatever, your brother. That dude smiling is you!! LoL!! Great job for your brother, and very respectable for you to celebrate with him. A BEAUTIFUL looking bear on that beast. By the way, if there was an award for the happiest and most sincere smile, your brother would be grouped with the best of them!

Arrowed my first black bear!!!!!!

I have pulled into an "elk camping spot" before to set up my tent and area during the general hunt and also found the man parts form 3 elk hanging in the trees some victory banner. It was tasteless and crappy for hunters to do that kind of stuff. -
Nice brown color. Any pictures looking down on him from above? How far was the lion you saw?

Welcome to the brotherhood, James! Sweet bear, and great eats! Well done! How far was the shot? -
EliteGT500, Did you call G&F and get that 9 sow number from them? That is a lot of sows, more than I expected. Interesting data.

I tried that once...and almost shot a forest service employee who snuck into my camp unannounced after dark...to investigate a propane flame during a "no open fire while camping restriction".

Second color phase is nice.

Sweet! Is that whole hillside regrowth from fire? Looks like cotton wood saplings just to the left of you. Nice job!
-
That is one heck of a long range shot! How much of an actual drop occurs over 800 yards for that round? I need to practice up! Nice looking bear!
-
Very sweet buck! I will try archery deer in December or January. Hope to get one even half that size!
-
Love the color pattern! What broadheads did you use?
-
Sweet footage!

+1 on the color phase. Would love to see what the rest of the hide looks like from a top view!

Was it a good broadside arrow shot? How far away was he from the bear?

Very tough to wait for your quarry to get within your own defined shooting limits. Great mental job controlling your boundaries instead of launching some "hail mary" shots at the beast!!! As a caller, I never imagined ever shooting at anything beyond 100 yards, and even at the range, I never practiced any shots beyond 100 yards. However, I once called in a lion while bear hunting and it hung up at exactly 250 yards and refused to come any closer. My buddy shot at it while I spotted through my binoculars. His first shot was about two feet short. The lion jumped up looking around. I told him to aim higher. He shot again and was inches low. The lion now started to jog away. I let out a squeal that stopped him in his tracks. In a split second's time, I threw my own rifle up and put the cross hairs about a foot above the lions back and pulled the trigger. The lion fell dead! It was pure luck, though, an instant experiment in compensating for bullet drop. Kudos to you for sticking to your comfort zone! Next time, tag one!! I will help you pack it out if I am home.

Do I detect a little reddish-cinnamon tint to his coat? How much of a vertical drop is that rock face in front of the bear? Could he have made it any closer to you than that?

If you ever come up to Phoenix, I am but a few miles off the I-10 as you come up from Tucson into the valley. I would take it for $40.
