Precisely why I was trying to find a buddy to go metro pig hunting with me! (my wife was home sick)
-
I once javelina hunted on Picketpost Mountain near the black obsidian mine and had a crazy property guard run me down while waving a shotgun in the air. Needless so say, I don't hunt there any more. But, I did get back to back pigs there two years in a row!

Be aware of homeless individuals and camps at waterholes in the areas you mentioned.

Whoa! Is that lung blood coming from the wound? Nice shot.

Reminds me of a goat hoof. Nice job!

Nice!

A lot of the metro unit state trust lands have locked gates and signs saying "closed to all motor vehicles" for soil conservation efforts. I hiked back into the metro areas the other day, as I was paranoid about the no motor vehicle signs.

Going to poke around on some state trust land tomorrow morning off the 60 in Apache junction for some metro javelina. Just going out in the field from 7-10am if anyone wants to join me. No honey holes or guarantees, just exploring a new area close to town. Went out yesterday afternoon for 3 hours and found several bedding areas, but the freshest sign was about a week or two old. Also, found some old homeless or illegal campsites, which is why I wouldn't mind some company if I ran into any trouble. PM me with your cell number if you want to join up in the morning.

No luck today, just cold and wet rain. My 26M tag is over, bow its time for my 33 archery draw tag. Will let you know about the calling lesson. Thanks Hoghunter.

I have noticed that fire ban for the past three Christmas Eves, but I burned anyway. Do not pull the plug on my favorite holiday!

I am also leary of calling for pigs. I have called them in before unexpectedly while calling for bear, but have never called in pigs purposely, unless I had already shot one and they were milling about crazily. The couple of times I tried it "to close the gap" by calling before a shot resulted in the pigs getting out of Dodge, instead of coming in closer. Go figure... Time to go out in the rain and see if I can find a pig pile getting wet.

All is well that ends well! Perseverance pays off!

Walked into two piggies. One charged me head on and stopped at 10 yards behind a creosote. I drew back and he jogged along as if to circle me. I followed him with my arrow, turning my body as he circled me for about 180 degrees waiting for him to stop before releasing. I grunted a few times while he did this, but he never stopped and I never shot. The second pig bolted away from me. Will try it once more tomorrow morning.

Go back to where you shot from in the morning with a friend and two radios and guide him into where the deer bedded down. By the time you got there today, you likely were looking for your buck in the wrong spot. He is probably still down behind the same brush!

How did you prepare and cook that leg? It looks delicious!
-
Sweet! Did you skin it out?

Try not to hunt on the Sabbath, unless it is for a serious odds draw tag. Spent the day in church and with family. Tomorrow morning will be different story! Come on, I will even take a teenager with me who is off for winter break!

I have several you can borrow. I am near Chandler Fashion Center. PM me your number and arrange a time you can stop by to pick up some traps.

That was my go-to bow for what seems like 10 years running, until I upgraded 3 years ago. I shot many javelina and a bear or two with it.

She needs to start practicing calling on open and closed reed calls so she can add a bear to her portfolio this fall! Congratulations little miss!

Sweet shot and way to fill the freezer with meat! I love your shooting abilities and confidence in them. I practice regularly at 80 yards and would not hesitate to take a neck shot if presented with one at that distance or any yardage less than that. However, I would not risk a 90 yard neck shot as I do not practice at that distance. Was it not the Outlaw Josey Wales who said, "A man's got to know his limitations?" Well done!

Loved how they tried not to scare the public by saying it only weighed 100-150 pounds ---they were off by about 100 pounds, as that beautiful brownie was more like a 200-250 pound bear! I would have tagged it in an instant!

Please pray for TJ!! He was in a bad quad accident!

Wow! Arrived at the party a bit late here, but at least I don't have to panic about the unknown! It is great to know that you were spared serious injury and will have the opportunity to continue helping others in the field to achieve their dreams ahead of your own. Merry Christmas, and may the good Lord grant you the full and speedy recovery that everyone is praying for on your behalf. -
I have the 2010 model and love it! It is now my spare bow, but it tagged me two black bear and two javelina.

You outdid me, brother! Nice job!
