Very good condition, excellent saddle gun. Needs to go to a good home where it can be used instead of collecting dust in my gun safe. Shane

Way more positives to this then negatives. Glad they finally came to their senses in at least one subject.

coueshunter84 replied to lfootmatt's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Everything we found in the last season was down low. very little on anything that had elevation. They were all in the flats. -
Big old roman nosed bruiser.. Cant beat that one for a first deer. Congrats to all involved.

I would say mule deer, I wonder how many folks are around deer enough to pick out the mannerisms consciously. Its interesting that it was even brought up.. And not something I would ever think to look at. I might look for things like that subconsciously, but not on purpose.. Hmmm, I know the difference in traits/habitats/ and maybe just maybe a few of the mannerisms, for the most part, I think anyway. But havent actually ever put thought to it, Something I will have to pay more attention to in the future. Thanks for straining my brain. Very interesting..

Truly a very functional piece of art. Good luck with it. -
Silly Broadhead penetration Test to share.
coueshunter84 replied to HEADACHE's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Many of the rear opening heads will close after the shot when the target stops the arrow. usually dosent take much KE to close them. If the band or whatever is holding them has been tripped then they opened. To test the ones that dont use bands ( or any of them for that matter) put a piece of paper on the back side of the target. I think you will find most of them are opening, and just closeing afterward. -
What do you wear on your feet for a stalk?
coueshunter84 replied to couesarcher's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I have always used the $20 boots from Wally world. The soles on them are soft enough they make decent stalking boots. Granted they will only last a couple of seasons before the soles are gone. But they do work. -
We were up in 5a... Had the darndest time figureing things out.. Ever bull in the country was talking the whole hunt. We had bugles morning and evening. Every bull had 3-4 cows and seemed content with those numbers. The cows would stray away from the bulls for sometimes upto an hour or more, with the bulls showing no interests at all as to their where abouts. And they wanted nothing at all to do with anything getting close to them. A sattelite ( there were only 3-4 in the area without at least one cow and mostly raghorns and spikes) would bugle and they would run. We would cow call and they would run. We would bugle and they would reply until we hit the 2-300 yard range and then they would turn tail. There were keeping a 2-300 yard bufferzone between themselves and every other elk out there. We tried every trick in the book we could think of, and ended up filling one tag out of 3 with a raghorn 5x5. Stuck in his bed about noon on the 20th. was definately a learning experience. They were watering early in the am before dawn and again after dark. Nothing hitting waterholes during daylight hours. Got to love it.

How Many Times did you Call Today?
coueshunter84 replied to GameHauler's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
As of 5 minutes ago they were having technical difficulties after letting me enter all my info. So should not be long now Maybe even tonight. -
Triangle T is about 15-20 minutes from Benson, And there are plenty of hotels and a few motels in town. I believe the triangle T also has little cottages, but dont remember if they rent them out. But Benson is definately the closest.

We drew straws this year to see who got to apply for tags, everyone else got points.

My nephew took one couple years ago with my .357 Using a 125 grain cast lead .38 special reload. One shot at 50 yards dropped it in its tracks. I would think anything that not designed to take out tanks will work just fine. I have knocked down yotes out to 100 yards with cast lead reloads out of mine.

I would go with a gift certificate and let her pick it out. Easiest and safest method out there. And having a bow she likes that she picked out will be way better then you getting the wrong color scheme, or something she dosent like the feel of.

Being patient after the shot....
coueshunter84 replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Not to inturrupt the ongoing story, But I have a good one to post.. Several years ago while chasing javy's with my bow. I was still hunting a river bottom when a herd crossed about 150 yards in front of me. I snuck in behind them and eventually got up into the middle of the herd about 50 above the river on the bank. When I caught them we were all in the middle of a mature mesquite bosque. I stood next to a big mesquite branch and tried to blend in while picking out the biggest of the herd. Seeing how I was readying for a shot, I was set up in a shooting stance. I had been standing next to this branch for about 2 minutes taking in every pig I was able to see, and still deciding on which one was the biggest, when I felt something touch the inside of my right pant leg.. I slowly looked down to find a javy walking between my legs. how I was able to keep my wits at this point are still up in the air. When he got about 5 feet in front of me I had decided he was large enough to take.. I drew put my line of pins on his spine and released, he dropped in his tracks with an arrow through the spine at 2 paces.. Shortest recovery I have ever had.. I did however wait the required 30 minutes , mostly to calm myself, and let the rest of the herd move out of the area.. Was the most exciting archery hunt I have ever had. -
Coues Hunting Turned Out To Be Everything I Thought It Would
coueshunter84 replied to Mr. Jonathan's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Congrats to the lot of ya's... Great story As it were. OH yea also welcome to southern Az.. sounds to me like you got the whole tour all on your own. And some of the nastier sides at that.. -
What type and size of boradhead did you hit him with? If it was one of the small ones like the rocket ultimate steels then the wound is not as big and more likely to clot off faster, even with sharp heads. If its a big Vortex 125 with the 3" cutting surface then I would expect him to be dragging guts if you hit guts. So that might hel in determining if what all you hit. And good job on not giving up.. You have stuck with it longer then most folks would have, and if nothing else you will end up tagging him out of shear persistance. I hit one last January and "lost it" I hit him way far forward and the arrow went through the front of the left leg skimmed across the front of the brisket and never touched the right leg.. Also never made it into the thorax.. I had about 300cc of blood on the ground and a decent trail for about 45 yards.. Then nothing.. I spent almost 28 hours total looking for him.. A friend of mine seen him in the same spot again 2 weeks later sporting a big scar across his chest and pushing does again.. On the initial shot he was quartering away a little to much when the arrow hit.. I hit him with a First Cut one of the big 2 blade expandables. I had just a little blood on the arrow , a little fat and some muscle tissue. He jumped like he was heart hit, ran about 20 yards, stopped, and then swayed like he was going down. He caught himself and stood still for a few minutes and then started licking the wound. Every time he came back up from licking the wound his muzzle was covered with dripping blood. I would have shot again but he made it out of range by the time he stopped.. And I didnt have any reason at the time to think he wasent going to go down any second.. We sat and watched him licking his wound for about 20 minutes, I decided to get closer and see if I could get another arrow into him. He spotted me this time and by the time I got within range again, when I released he jump out of the way and ran off. I backed out and waited another 3 hours before going back in.. I still thought I had a good hit on him. We followed the blood out and lost the blood trail after a while. and ended up following tracks to the spot where he finally bedded. We had pushed him up again.. This time only a small pool of blood in his bed, and like yours still venous blood. And no blood trail to follow this time. We back out and came back early the next morning. Nothing was found of sign after that. We covered the whole hillside and everything on all side of the hill. About a mile square in a grid by the time we were done, and nothing.. I went back to the spot where I shot from and where he was standing, and strted looking at everything closely. I found his tracks where he dug in and ran after the hit, and got an angle from that. And things came in to perspective after that. To it being a way far forward hit. Also add the arrow and what was on it, and all the other evidence.. I like you had to work the next day and was not able to get back until the following weekend. I passed a couple of shots the next weekend due to still trying to find him. The season ended and I was not able to get back out.. My friend who lives in the area was out the following weekend and spotted him again.. Pushing does again like nothing was wrong at all. So I got lucky.. Hopefully your will either turn out wearing a tag or like mine.. Those are the 2 best outcomes.. And with your persistance Iwould bet the first option.. Keep it up and good luck. Shane

What type of broadhead? I dont know how much blood deer carry in their system.. But you have 750-1000 c/c on the ground if that bone belongs to a full sized cow. Thats alot of blood loss for a human, I would think deer carry less then we do.. So hes going to be weak also. But I would also say venous blood, and more then likely out of his hind quarter. Judging by your story.. Good luck tomorrow, and dont let this get you down.. If you cant get another arrow into him, odds are he will survive.

Where were you at when it got swiped? and if you have pics get them on here. This site is big enough if they go to sell it or pawn it someone might recognise it. And I hope he gets his bow back and you your case and equipment.

Part of your problem might be ( and correct me if I'm wrong) but that looks more like a Paladin self propelled gun then a tank..

If you have the tubing real short and pulling alot on the peep it will hold the string up and not allow it to come flat when you draw. And I bet thats why its off after the tubing broke. Just a thought. I also think there are 2 pigs in that pic.. But the one on the left might be a barrel cactus..
