Assassin, There was no waitin for the Mule, trust me. My bull was the third I helped pack out in 5 days and I managed to jack up my foot pretty good on the second day of the hunt playing mountain goat. I was actually kind of gimpy the rest of the hunt. I am trying to heal up so that I can go on my Dec. whitetail hunt down here in So. AZ this weekend

Here are some pictures from my 2008 late rifle bull hunt in Arizona. We had a great camp and managed to stay comfortable through some not so pleasant weather. We had a great hunt as well. I saw 32 bulls in the 5 days I hunted and managed to kill a 7x6 that we gross scored at 353 on the 5th day. Some neat features about his rack are that he has an extra third on his right antler and his main beams are 56.5 and 58.5 inches long. I killed him about 3.5 miles from a road in some rough country. "Cisco" the mule did a great job of packing out the meat. I had a lot of help from a lot of people on this hunt which I appreciated very much.

Guess the score contest Oct 2008
Brian Payne replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Contests and Giveaways!
I get 125 even. Thanks for the contest and prize donations. -
sdr hunter, I read the blog that you posted the link to. I thought Wayne's (Denny's son) post was very insightful. Denny seems to be a very upstanding citizen and a dedicated hunter. Am I jealous that he has the money to spend on a hunt like that? Yes. If I had the money that he had would I spend it on high $$$ hunts? Probably. I think it has become societys nature to be largely skeptical about new accomplishments or levels of success. Society has been burned by people motivated by greed and fame that are willing to cheat to get to the top. I think major league baseball is a prime example. The people that did cheat ruined it for the clean players. Now no one can hit 50 home runs with out being accused of juicing. Do we need to eliminate high fence hunting and doping of animals? I don't know, but as long as it is out there, people are going to be skepticle and that is just going to have to be the price to pay for the people in the spotlight and they should be willing to face it. If they are not in it for the fame then it shouldn't matter. If this is truly a legitimate animal and legitimate kill then there should be nothing but respect for the animal and the hunter and we as hunters should be excited about the fact the public land holds the genetics and space to grow a 500" bull.

Arizona 24K/7.5' topographic maps on the Garmin units
Brian Payne replied to awoltoday's topic in Optics and tripods
I can download the map files and I have mapsource for windows on my computer, but when I try to open the mapfiles I get an error that they are not valid Mapsource files and they don't automatically download into mapsource. Any thoughts? -
Chase, Congrats on the monster bull. I had the privilege to hunt with your caller last year and he is one heck of an elk hunting machine. Good job guys!

young buck with promise
Brian Payne replied to Coues Sniper's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I think you are right on about that being a young deer with lots of promise. Is he in a place where he will get hunted or could you sit on him for a couple years and let him become a monster? -
Those are awesome sheds! And fresh brown too! What a great find!

Birthday Crew!!
Brian Payne replied to azpackhorse's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Thanks everyone! To answer your question azpackhorse, If they even remember my birthday at all during the rush of holidays, they add a "happy birthday" to the bottom of the name tag on the Christmas gift. Oh well, as long as I'm on a whitetail hunt somewhere on my birthday then I consider it a good birthday. -
Chief, I just sent another PM. Hopefully it works
