Find the falls on Cherry Creek and you will have a cliff jumping swimming hole all to yourself. Bet Amanda knows where it is.......

Think trout, forget the name of the river right there but night crawlers, grass hoppers and Mepps and Daredevils for bait poles. For fly fishing Royal Coachman, mosquito, black gnat and cream colors worked all over the state. It has been over 30 years since I left the state, but on my visits back I had good luck with everything I suggested, then again I have spots out of the way for most people.

He did a good job on his blog about the lack of participation or outrage by Environmental groups towards clean-up of trash left by illegals too. http://arizonahuntingtoday.com/desertrat/2...-border-debate/ -
Imagine that Terry.....small world isn't it.....

I wouldn't worry about it, once your camo gets a few washes and starts to fade it fits in anywhere. When I hunt with a rifle I will wear a camo shirt and either gray or black double front Carharts. Archery I will wear camo pants that started out as Seclusion 3D, now they are faded real good and work in the desert or pine tree country. Paying attention to wind, not skylining yourself, moving slow and sticking to shadows is more important than what camo pattern you have on. If it's not specific cold weather gear I pay more attention to price than pattern. I've killed lots of animals wearing blue jeans and a flannel or wool shirt.

I did, they weren't impressed......

BW - I had a filter straw I picked up from Cabela's about 10 years ago, drank out of many a tank and G&F guzzler with it over the years. I don't know how but I broke it, need to get another one. I usually leave camp with about 1 gal of water, a 2 liter bladder and 3 or 4 bottles - a 2 day supply at most. If I am guiding I just carry the bladder and a spare bottle for my client, have had a few that didn't listen and left camp with 1 or 2 bottles at most. The spare bottle and the mandarin oranges got them back to camp and they left the next few days with plenty of water.

I know a guy that got this tag last year, at the last minute the G&F guy had him take a young bull. A sheet of plywood, couple of planks and a come-along work great for getting the carcass into the back of your truck after field dressing - I've done it with beef cattle quite a few times. Need a way to hook the come-along to the front of the bed, we used a short chunk of chain. There are 160 qt coolers at Costco, a 120 will fit a cow elk so a couple 160's will hold a lot of buffalo, think they run around $80. Freeze a couple cases of drinking water bottles for ice, will keep the meat from soaking in water.

Any details on what happened? Was he going to the stand to pick up the hunter and the hunter fired at movement, hunter had a round in the chamber and touched it off, etc. The reason I ask is I use stories like this as examples when I am teaching Hunter Ed classes, they make an impression with the kids. -
I understand totally how you feel. I had some turds steal the catalytic converter from my 4runner in the driveway. Could I get my hands on them for 5 minutes it would be a while before they stole from someone again.

Well since I sent mine in about a month ago I guess I beat the June 9th deadline didn't I. Bet that message causes a stink. You would not believe how many people wait until the very last minute to drop off apps. I did the office at Greenway for many years, did a couple years at the new Cave Creek bldg as a volunteer helping people out, want to see some PO'd guys, be at the gate a 1901 (that's 7:01 pm for you challenged folks ).

I pack enough so if I have to stay out over night I can, have before in the past and probably will again in the future. Plus, I hunt by myself for my tags, no one is going to miss me for a few days if something happens to me. Water will be an issue.

They upgrade so some of us can buy their cast-offs at cheap prices........

Sometimes it is a sandwich, chips, cookies or candy bar and fruit - put in a Gal ziplock with some air in it and it will keep the chips from getting crushed. Other times burrito's or tamales, wrap in tin foil, build a small fire and warm em up. Or oysters, kipper snacks or sardines and crackers - same Gal ziplock to protect the crackers. I have a canteen cup and have been known to brew up coffee, tea or make a hot soup/stew sitting on a hill, a small fire and 15 minutes and you have something warm. I have a seal-a-meal and will make packets of onion soup and Minute Rice, shave in a little jerky and it makes a nice hot meal. Or potato soup mix and a can of oysters make a good stew with crackers. The nice thing about the canned fish is you can heat them up on a small fire to have a warm meal. I usually have a few left over MRE's from fires so I have packed them also, they have up to 1300 calories if you eat everything, since I don't I have lots of various things - crackers, cheese spreads, jelly, fruit, candy - leftover that I can throw in my pack. One thing I ALWAYS have is a can of Mandarin Oranges, these things are instant energy, good thirst quenchers and I just like them. The weather dictates what I am packing more than anything else, nothing like something hot in you on a cold day. You don't need a big fire, something you could cover with two hands is big enough, just use real dry wood and gets some coals going.

With Memorial Day right around the corner thought I would share this. Can't say whether it is true or not, but it very well could be. I served with a few fellers that were multi-generational Marines. Semper Fi!! I just wanted to get the day over with and go down to Smokey's. Sneaking a look at my watch, I saw the time, 1655. Five minutes to go before the cemetery gates are closed for the day. Full dress was hot in the August sun. Oklahoma summertime was as bad as ever--the heat and humidity at the same level--both too high. I saw the car pull into the drive, '69 or '70 model Cadillac Deville, looked factory-new. It pulled into the parking lot at a snail's pace.. An old woman got out so slow I thought she was paralyzed; she had a cane and a sheaf of flowers--about four or five bunches as best I could tell. I couldn't help myself. The thought came unwanted, and left a slightly bitter taste: 'She's going to spend an hour, and for this old soldier, my hip hurts like heck and I'm ready to get out of here right now!' But for this day, my duty was to assist anyone coming in. Kevin would lock the 'In' gate and if I could hurry the old biddy along, we might make it to Smokey's in time. I broke post attention. My hip made gritty noises when I took the first step and the pain went up a notch. I must have made a real military sight: middle-aged man with a small pot gut and half a limp, in marine full-dress uniform, which had lost its razor crease about thirty minutes after I began the watch at the cemetery. I stopped in front of her, halfway up the walk. She looked up at me with an old woman's squint. 'Ma'am,may I assist you in any way?' She took long enough to answer. 'Yes, son. Can you carry these flowers? I seem to be moving a tad slow these days.' 'My pleasure, ma'am.' Well, it wasn't too much of a lie. She looked again. 'Marine, where were you stationed?' ' Vietnam, ma'am.. Ground-pounder. '69 to '71.' She looked at me closer. 'Wounded in action, I see. Well done, Marine. I'll be as quick as I can.' I lied a little bigger: 'No hurry, ma'am.' She smiled and winked at me. 'Son, I'm 85-years-old and I can tell a lie from a long way off.. Let's get this done. Might be the last time I can do this. My name's Joanne Wieserman, and I've a few Marines I'd like to see one more time.' 'Yes, ma 'am. At your service.' She headed for the World War I section, stopping at a stone. She picked one of the flowers out of my arm and laid it on top of the stone. She murmured something I couldn't quite make out.. The name on the marble was Donald S. Davidson, USMC: France 1918. She turned away and made a straight line for the World War II section, stopping at one stone. I saw a tear slowly tracking its way down her cheek. She put a bunch on a stone; the name was Stephen X.Davidson, USMC, 1943. She went up the row a ways and laid another bunch on a stone, Stanley J. Wieserman, USMC, 1944.. She paused for a second. 'Two more, son, and we'll be done' I almost didn't say anything, but, 'Yes, ma'am. Take your time.' She looked confused.. 'Where's the Vietnam section, son? I seem to have lost my way.' I pointed with my chin. 'That way, ma'am.' 'Oh!' she chuckled quietly. 'Son, me and old age ain't too friendly.' She headed down the walk I'd pointed at. She stopped at a couple of stones before she found the ones she wanted. She placed a bunch onLarry Wieserman, USMC, 1968, and the last on Darrel Wieserman, USMC, 1970. She stood there and murmured a few words I still couldn't make out. 'OK, son, I'm finished. Get me back to my car and you can go home.' Yes, ma'am. If I may ask, were those your kinfolk?' She paused. 'Yes, Donald Davidsonwas my father, Stephen was my uncle, Stanley was my husband,Larry and Darrel were our sons. All killed in action, all marines.' She stopped. Whether she had finished, or couldn't finish, I don't know. She made her way to her car, slowly and painfully. I waited for a polite distance to come between us and then double-timed it over to Kevin, waiting by the car. 'Get to the 'Out' gate quick.. I have something I've got to do.' Kevin started to say something, but saw the look I gave him. He broke the rules to get us there down the service road. We beat her. She hadn't made it around the rotunda yet. 'Kevin, stand at attention next to the gatepost. Follow my lead.' I humped it across the drive to the other post. When the Cadillac came puttering around from the hedges and began the short straight traverse to the gate, I called in my best gunny's voice: 'TehenHut! Present Haaaarms!' I have to hand it to Kevin; he never blinked an eye--full dress attention and a salute that would make his DI proud. She drove through that gate with two old worn-out soldiers giving her a send-off she deserved, for service rendered to her country, and for knowing duty, honor and sacrifice. I am not sure, but I think I saw a salute returned from that Cadillac. Instead of 'The End,' just think of 'Taps.' As a final thought on my part, let me share a favorite prayer: 'Lord, keep our servicemen and women safe, whether they serve at home or overseas. Hold them in your loving hands and protect them as they protect us.' Let's all keep those currently serving and those who have gone before in our thoughts. They are the reason for the many freedoms we enjoy. 'In God We Trust.' Sorry about your monitor; it made mine blurry too! If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under!

Just got my latest issue of Eastmans' Hunting Journal and all I can say is WOW, WHAT A BUCK!

For those of you that do decide to test fate and head to Mexico, while you can't carry a gun I know of no restrictions on carrying a can of bear spray......

So where is the pic of him on the ground EH?

Concerning the Harley/Honda/quality question - both put out quality products but more people would rather have a Harley than a Honda.

Wouldn't surprise me, I haven't been on here long enough to recognize names yet. It's a real good buck and the guys knew how to go after them. There is also a 470 bull elk from the Yukon in the mag too, haven't read that story yet.

Kinda like the difference between a Harley and a Honda.......
