like usual, only takes a couple of idiots doing stuff they know is wrong to screw it up for everybody - my guess is being hard on the land is the reason access will be cut.

manfrotto tripod with pistol grip and pan head
azslim replied to livetohunt's topic in Classified Ads
what tripod - how heavy, how tall, etc. -
When I put a mil-dot on my .220swift about 10 years ago there was a place to get a slide rule type piece that made figuring everything with a mil-dot a ton easier. I intended to pick it up since it was only about $20 but never did. You can probably do a search and find it again. If I remember right it was a former military sniper out of Colorado that was selling them. My thought was if it cut my learning curve for field work it was worth the $20.

The guy that pushed for it called it QDM - Quality Deer Management, was a few articles about it over the years.

A lot of the border units are under subscribed, I have picked up Oct hunts in 36B as my 3rd and 4th choice before. I haven't had issues with illegals even tho I have seen them pretty much every time I have been down in that country. Don't camp in major travel areas, you can tell by the trails and trash. I get by with a cot under a shade tree for the most part, but have had some times when a tent went up quickly due to rain or high winds.

this is total BS and I would be fighting it in court and pushing G&F hard to do something about an officer that abuses his authority. I had some friends from Wisconsin here in Dec. Jethro shared a story about a friend that had the Wis G&F write him a ticket for too much bait. He took it to court and wasn't the female officer surprised when he pulled out a game camera photo that showed her putting out the excess bait. Sad part is she wasn't canned, just moved to a different district where she had fresh hunters to try and entrap.

Sight, rest, release, and stabilizer, and quiver on a budget!

start looking online, you can get rigs completely set up that are great for hunting, and in their day they were top of the line. -
Wonder how they would vote on leg-hold traps now..........

Get up high and glass, find a buck you want, they tend to bed somewhere around 10:00 for a few hours then get up and pee and grab a mouthful to chew on and bed down again. Watch when they go down the first time and move into shooting range for the afternoon pee.

I like the first hunt and the last hunt, first hunt is pretty hot but the deer haven't been stirred up yet, last hunt is rut time.

It is never wrong to turn down a shot - you may beat yourself up in your mind for the next day, week, month, year(s) with woulda, coulda, shoulda's but it is better than losing an animal, trophy or not.

here are a few examples of the ramifications of "feel good laws" like this one leg hold traps banned in Az on public ground - varmint population has soared and game populations decreased lion hunting ban in Cal - more lions are killed now as nuisance/dangerous by G&F than were killed by hunters before the law wolves in Wy, Id, Mt - only took wolves 20 years to wipe out 100 years of conservation efforts for deer, elk, moose

If I didn't already have Swaro's I would have Kaibabs, their HD spotter is great too.

I have a problem with laws based on perception not reality

I have an internet friend in Lousiana that makes pot calls and one in Florida that makes box calls. Check out http://www.heirloomturkeycalls.com/ Brian does good work, a few years back he sent me some elk calls to test out, pretty wood turned on a lathe.

and in some cases needing money, I know of several people that just got shown the door due to the economy

Get as good as you can afford, and save an extra month or three on top of that. The .257wby is a good cartridge and will shoot a long ways with good loads. I would get into a scope with turrents that you can set up for long range shooting. No matter what flavor scope get into the lifetime warranty class.
