    Boat knowledge needed

Definition of boat - hole in the water you throw money into Some people get their money's worth out of them and some people cuss them, just the luck of the draw.

    Camoflaging a blind

If you build them out of brush and tree limbs you don't have to worry about some pinhead stealing it. It takes about 20 - 30 minutes, a pair of clippers to get material and a few lengths of string, wire or p-cord.

    Wild Fire Information websites

there is talk that it could go another 4 to 6 weeks. If we get good rains this monsoon season it will be excellent habitat guys, short term fire is bad, long term it is good for the country. In Wy we had an area we called "The Burn", my Dad drove a water truck on the fire when he was 14, we hunted that area for years and always got elk out of it.

    Anasazi Morning

Never have stopped by Wupatki, may have to some day. I have visited quite a few cliff dwellings over the years, have some nice pics somewhere - old 35mm camera so not on a disk. You should check out some of those in the Sierra Ancha's along Cherry Creek, but wait till next season, Az Hiways just had an article on them so they are getting quite a few visitors.

    WTB Tripod/Head setup

To me it is important to have one tall enough to stand comfortably and use, I have one that is about 4" too short for me to use standing up, it will be replaced this season. Jump out of the rig and glass quickly, stand and peer over the edge of a hill/ridge because there isn't a bush to belly up under and you know there is something there or just get tired of sitting. I know folks that got some decent set-ups at Walmart or camera stores, your height may be a problem tho.

    Stupid, stinkin', coyotes

people are people no matter what country you come from - some good and some bad I fully understand why they want to come here, make a better life for them and their families, just don't like how they choose to do it. Or the fact that politicians fall all over themselves to give away money and services to them to buy votes. Don't hate the illegals, hate the process that got us in this fix.

In your opinion - who makes the best wall tent?

+1 on the Bighorn, weighs in around 75 lbs plus no center poles to dodge like on the Alaknak. Also have the Outback Lodge 12x12, weighs in at 25 lbs but have to dodge the center pole. I heat with propane so can't comment on stove use.

    Stupid, stinkin', coyotes

Illegals give me lots of work, drug runners will start a fire in an area, BP has to leave and the load will go through before the wildland crews show up. They also tell them before they leave Mex if they feel they can't make it any farther and don't want to die in the desert to start a fire, someone will come to put it out and save them. First fire I worked was started by illegals down by Kitt Peak, the next year I was down in the same area on a fire that burned up to our old lines.

    Wild Fire Information websites

It takes a while for SWCC and NIFC to get updated usually, these sites get updated when the people working in the regions get time. I watch wildlandfire.com and go to the Hotlist forum, from there select IA Southwest, IA is Initial Attack, and you can see new starts and continuing incidents. The updates here are from folks around the country at stations or listening to scanners, hence the early updates. Going to be one helluva season this year it looks like, I've been out twice already and usually I don't get my first call till the end of May.

    4A Early Archery Bull

One of the guys hunting last season with Travis (Southwest Hunting Adventures) said it best, when asked what he thought the buck would score, Dino answered with "scores are for games" as he nestled in to take the shot. He got a nice buck too.

    4A Early Archery Bull

I didn't see that comment pointed at you, just a general observation about how the focus of hunting has changed over the years. Magazines started the deal and hunting shows took it and ran with it, nowadays it seems scores are more important than having an enjoyable hunt and filling the freezer.

    Bowhunting Rabbits

I used to walk the ditch banks on the ranch with a recurve and a couple cedar arrows with .357 cases on the ends to make them blunts. Had a blast doing it and got pretty good towards the end there. I haven't tried it with my compound, don't want to use a $15+ arrow on a bunny.

    The Green Thing

In the line at the store, the cashier told the older woman that she should bring her own green grocery bagbecause plastic bags weren't good for the environment. The woman apologized to him and explained, "We didn't have the green thing back in my day." The clerk responded, "That's our problem today. The former generation did not care enough to save our environment." He was right, that generation didn't have the green thing in its day. Back then, they returned their milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So they really were recycled. But they didn't have the green thing back in that customer's day. In her day, they walked up stairs, because they didn't have an escalator in every store and office building. They walked to the grocery store and didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time they had to go two blocks. But she was right. They didn't have the green thing in her day. Back then, they washed the baby's nappies because they didn't have the throw-away kind. They dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling machine burning up 220 volts - wind and solar power really did dry the clothes. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing. But that old lady is right; they didn't have the green thing back in her day. Back then, they had one TV, or radio, in the house - not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief, not a screen the size of the state of Tasmania. In the kitchen, they blended and stirred by hand because they didn't have electric machines to do everything for you. When they packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, they used a wadded up old newspaper to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap. Back then, they didn't fire up an engine and burn petrol just to cut the lawn. They used a push mower that ran on human power. They exercised by working so they didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity. But she's right; they didn't have the green thing back then. They drank from a water bubbler when they were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time they had a drink of water. They refilled their writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and they replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull. But they didn't have the green thing back then. Back then, people took the tram or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or rode the school bus instead of turning their mums into a 24-hour taxi service. They had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And they didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest pizza shop. But isn't it sad the current generation laments how wasteful the old folks were just because they didn't have the green thing back then?

    Help with 270 wsm

RTFM! You need to refer to your manual, it will tell you what primer, powder & weight, bullet combo worked best. If you don't have a manual you need to go get one at a minimum from the company that makes the bullets you intend to use.

    Spaghetti Tonight

I have spaghetti sauce bubbling now, won't be long to make up some pasta. This is a simple one, 1/2 lb of Sweet Italian Fennel sausage (deer), a can of mushrooms, can of diced tomato's and can of tomato sauce, some s&p, small blast of oregano and bigger blast of basil. Here is the recipe for the sausage. I skip the fat in these recipes and just make it up with meat, whatever fat is in the pork is all that makes it to my sausage. Italian Sweet Fennel 3 lbs pork butt - I use 3 lbs game, 1 lb pork and skip the fat 3/4 lb pork fat 1/2 cup dry red wine 4 cloves garlic minced 2 tblspns fennel seeds 1 tblspn freshly ground black pepper 4 tspns kosher salt 1 tspn dried oregano 1/8 tspn gound allspice grind meat/fat together, mix in spices/water and knead together, then grind again. Cook small patty and decide if needs anything.

The last BOW we field dressed and butchered a goat, made up a batch of this sausage with just ground goat, no pork or fat added, it went over pretty good. Barb cooked it up in her Dutch Oven class.

    AZ Camping spots

Workman's Creek / Aztec Peak area, water to splash in, falls to visit, cliff dwelling to visit if you know where to go, old homesteads to hike to and if you camp up on top rather than the campground there is plenty of room for the boys to roam.
