had a little one at the house for a while when my daughters were volunteering at Adobe Mtn Rehab, per them (G&F) possum's are not native, will hop a ride on a produce truck. The girls called him Opie, would have made Ron Howard proud.......

whatever unit my tag is good for

tried sending you a pm - guess your mailbox is full because it said you couldn't receive any more msgs. Curious what you have in the works. I've been teaching Hunter Ed since 99, teach outdoor related classes at Becoming An Outdoors Woman workshops, have done sausage making gigs at Cabela's a couple times when Pat Zeman asked me to and am a guide in Az for a couple different outfitters. I haven't kept up with all the new optics but I know enough about them to speak intelligently when I am asked questions. With fire season dying down I am liable to have some free time on my hands before hunting season starts up. I have room to receive pm's

Saw the truck at the ICP for a couple days, then bumped over to Paliza spike camp and never had a chance to find the driver.

so what do you want for them if no ammo to trade? I'm right down the street at 59th & Grovers

In the late 90's we took a Girl Scout troop down to Ruby to camp. The old caretaker Tommy had a big, black Lab that ran the town. We put our tent up a couple hundred yards from the girls, we were walking from it towards the girls' camp in the dark. I saw a big, black figure in the road trotting towards us and I hit it with the flashlight. My wife had no idea it was coming or what it was, dog, bear or chupacabra. She let out a violent quiver, grabbed my arms and SHOVED me in front of her, the only thing missing was the words "here, eat him first". We laugh about that time a lot and I don't believe she shoved me in front of her to protect her, I still think I was the offering.

about 10 years back he was pushing hard for a new Wilderness area in the Coronado, had it happened a proposed power line would have shifted to the east, right through the middle of his property. So in addition to make smuggling easier he would have went to the bank with a big handful of money from the power line. I have often wondered why there is no outrage from the Sierra Club, Nature Conservancy and similar orgs about the damage done to the country by UDA's, were it hunters leaving just 10% of the trash left by illegals these orgs would be all over the TV and newspapers complaining about filthy hunters.

I have an old refrigerator on the back porch, I pull the racks and stack the qtrs in and butcher them at my leisure. Not sure how many deer would fit but it has held 2 cow elk before. When it's not hunting season turn it off or put the racks in and keep drinks in it.

Las Conchas Fire Cabin/Property pics

That is a mean fire, it grew to 40k acres in 12 hours. I was spiked out behind Nambe Rsvr along Borreigo Creek when it started. We could see the glow all night long and ash rained on us like snow. -
kinda partial to Bore Snakes myself

who says FS did it and not somebody p.o.'d about the closures?

I was on the Murphy fire, it was a dirty burn so there are lots of pockets of green scattered about. Didn't get to check out my honey hole, it got burnt too, but from what I saw I have been thinking about picking up a left-over if I don't get my draw choice. Put your feet to work and you should have a chance at a good buck.

The start of the Murphy fire was in Coronado NF in the bowl that Murphy Well is in behind Bear Grass Tank, the Pajarito fire was started down along the border south of the Murphy and burned up to the 39 Rd (Ruby Road). I have the maps from the incident showing the starting locations of both. Don't know if the news reported it but there were Mexican hand crews fighting the fire south of the border, we didn't send any hand crews across but our air assets worked with them to get a handle on it. The team was worried the fire south of the border would work it's way west then turn north into unburned fuels. We had 3 contingency lines prep'd were that to happen.

Lance, several flights were made over the fire and 2 of the guys, the Type 3 IC and a guard from the Douglas DOC crew, were hunters. I hit them up on what they saw, lots of deer in the unburned pockets, more water than they would have imagined in hidden tanks (man-made and natural). Figured if I didn't get the tag I put in for I could pick up a left-over for 36B. Just going to have to walk a ways to find game, and if the country gets some decent rain it will green right up. Have a few pics of the Murphy on my camera, will share some when I get around to downloading them.

Lark, you would be surprised at how many women are on crews, Type 2, Hot Shots and Smoke Jumpers, some of them are pretty shiny too.

there is a facebook page you can get hooked up with too

Does just fine, not too hot if you can find a shade tree, it has held up in the wind on a couple trips too, just have to use the stakes that come with it and not try to scrimp with big nails. I also have the 12x12 Outback Lodge, it has a center pole and the pyramid shape so not as much head room, it makes a great 2 man camp also and weighs in at 25 lbs. A few years back it was the only one out of 10 to survive a windstorm when we were all gone from camp. For both I lay a tarp on the ground before setting them up and lay down a canvas painters drop clothe for a floor before setting up the cots, kitchen, etc. Can throw them in the washer when they get dirty. As you can see I have nothing bad to say about either one, price and weight wise either are hard to beat.

I agree Lark, I'm pretty partial to resting the rifle on the mirror and backing right up to them for the loading, plus I get to listen to the radio and keep brandy cold in the cooler.

Get the Outdoorsman's adapter and you don't need to trim the rubber. My Viper's are my backup's and loaners, stuff happens in the field and even the best glass can get knocked out of whack, would hate to be caught without 15's in the middle of a hunt.
-
pretty partial to my Bighorn II, the III looks even better for wood stoves if you pick up the additional heat shield. Weighs in around 75 lbs and is easily up/down by one person, and holds complete camp inside, kitchen, coolers, etc. for 2 sleepers

Don't focus so much on where the arrow will go in but more on where it will come out, make sure it comes out of the vitals.

Mother Nature doing her job, sometimes it ain't pretty

Moisture will help the country grow back, run-off is going to knock out the Apache trout that the FS was working hard to get going back in their home territory, quite a few critters got burned up or choked out by the smoke. Have a few pics from the Horseshoe 2 and Murphy I will get around to sharing eventually. None of the big fires were natural starts, heard on the news yesterday the Wallow was due to a campfire left burning, the Horseshoe 2, Murphy Complex and Monument were started by illegals. Don't imagine the news stations share that with you folks tho. When I left the Horseshoe 2 on June 6th about $32 mil had been spent, don't know about the costs on the other 2, the Murphy was a little over 68k acres and with the wind yesterday the Monument is blowing up. I was watching the plume grow the last couple days. The Wallow will top them all dollar wise tho, probably combined, based on the IMT's and number of personnel on it.
