I was very bummed to miss it this year, life got in the way.

BP's are not unit specific, purchase a 2012 license and come June you can buy a point for $7.50.

Bogan makes a grip for $100 to $125 depending on where you buy it. It works, weighs about twice as much. It is my backup and loaner in case something happens to my Outdoorsman set-up.

It'll take a little work to learn Az game, first suggestion is to buy good optics and a tripod to mount them on, then get on top of a mountain and start using them, preferably the NE facing slopes.

I've been lucky enough to see a Perigrine take out a dove, a Redtail take out a tweety bird, deer and antelope does put knots on coyotes heads and a Golden Eagle chasing our calves one spring, none of the calves died but the Eagle darn near did.

Denser bullet=more pressure?
azslim replied to deserthntr's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
It's not the denseness as much as it is the ogive, length and base that can/will result in different pressures. -
I used to buy 7.5 minute maps of an area I planned to hunt. My reasoning, 4 to 6 maps cost about the same as a tank of gas, but I could read a lot more of the terrain in my living room than the tank of gas would allow me to cover. Then when I went on the scout I could plan my route and make the most out of my trip. The shadings helped me determine areas to investigate, I've been known to do a little walking from time to time, especially into roadless areas.

Great job! I like hunting with kids, they work on improving your patience.......

can't go wrong with a 10/22.....just buy lots of bullets

I also have a 12x12 Outback Lodge, same design as Alaknak but lighter material. It has taken several high wind events and twice been the only tent left standing. Has a lot of stakes but worth it for the sturdiness. It also makes a good 2 man camp and holds the kitchen, I heat it with propane.
-
The Bighorn from Cabela's is nice too, you aren't dodging the center pole and one person can set it up. Fits 2 hunters and the kitchen no problem. The latest version offers a better spark protector than mine.

2 o'clock from the buck, fawn is coming in from the front of the doe, you can see it's head under her and the white butt below her chin, probably has a "happy tail" from getting a little nana.

I've got 7 counting the nursing fawn....

Just in case you
azslim replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
The left is just as or more bigoted than the right, if you don't see things their way you are totally wrong. And if you point that out to them stand by for fireworks. By their definition the only bigots and racists are white christians, and you can say anything you want about them, true or not, and not have to worry about being politically correct. -
seen a couple herds on top of Juniper Mesa and in the elk country of Unit 8....... I'd fatten them up with corn then stick one in the freezer.....

AZSFW open letter to sportsmen
azslim replied to krp's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
One thing we all seem to overlook is we take a beating on issues voted on, the anti-hunting crowds spend millions to stop us, unfortunately we will have to play their game. It is estimated 10% (actually we are down to about 8%) of the population hunts, 10% is against hunting, and 80% could care less, but this 80% will vote based on seeing a puppy in a trap, or a lion cub playing in the grass, and their votes won't be for sportsmen/women. It pains me to say this but we need to get money to buy votes, and that is done with lobbying and tv ads. -
That's his teaspoon of ice cream, he'll definitely want more......nice buck.

If there are cattle in the area try a lost beef calf, fawn bleat works good too, then your old standard dying rabbits.

I stole it fair and square from Reader's Digest.......

When I die I want to go peacefully, in my sleep, like my Grandfather. Not screaming like everyone else in the car. Lark, Bill - I changed my work a little late in life, but now I look forward to going as it is in the outdoors. The only thing I miss from my old life are the paychecks, but not as much as you would think (except when I want to trot down and buy a new Kimber or Custom Shop SW 1911).

you will never hear anyone on their deathbed wish they had spent more time at work

Smack, that would really prove a lot, fighting on someone twice (or more) your age.....earn a lot of respect with that one. Since you seem to be a member of, or at least affiliated with, SFW how about providing some meaningful information about intentions, goals, direction of SFW. All we see are backroom, secret deals that do nothing to help the average hunter. Quite the contrary, SFW seems to be screwing the average hunter to line their pockets and take actions to further the "rich man's sport" by making more tags available for deep pockets. Since most of us are left out why in the world would we support such actions. -
I don't have a 25-06 so if no one comes up with a 7mm or 300wm to trade you I have a Win Mod 70 06 I'd swap you, synthetic stock, flat black matte finish, rings but no scope. If I'm going to pack an 06 I use my BLR, so this one is just trading stock.
