horses eat money and $hit work unless you have cows to chase, but they are nice to have around to haul you in and the game out there can be a pretty good rodeo the first time you pack game on a horse, the blood smell is what I was told. My great-grandfather would soak a gunny sack in blood, then wipe it in the horses' nose and stand back, once the horse settled down you could load him. Usually only had to do that on the first time.

Nice look Wap. I grew up hunting elk in Wy, they didn't get near as big as the Az elk. I attribute it to them not having to fight the hard winters, looks like the elk in New Zealand are the same, good nutrition and little to no snow produce great racks.

nice, I've run on to them a few times over the years. want to get the snake out of the hole, run a stick down it, or a piece of wire. We used to use our lariats, stick it down the hole and wiggle, then step back because the snake was usually right behind and PO'd when we pulled the rope out.

I put a 1/4" peep on, I can see the entire sight ring, so I just have to center the circle in the circle and choose the right pin, plus can see a little later in the evening than with the smaller peeps.

We enjoy brown and serve sausage, just pull a couple links from the freezer, nuke them for 30 to 45 seconds and brown them up in a pan with eggs or dice up for the gravy for biscuits and gravy. Yesterday I decided to try to make some. Used my Yankee Sage recipe and ground turkey from Costco, then the jerky shooter pistol to string it out on the drying racks and baked for an hour at 250, let it cool then sliced into about 6" links . Have a big bag in the freezer now, just pull out a couple links, nuke for 30 secs then brown up in a pan. This brown and serve stuff is great for hunting camps too, since it's already cooked it will keep in the cooler for several days. Here is the recipe: 3 to 4 lbs ground meat, your choice what kind 3 TBL finely chopped or dried and crumbled sage or 2 to 3 tsp ground. I used 2 Tbl crumbled because I was using 3 lbs of meat 1 Tbl kosher salt 1 Tbl blk pepper 1/4 tsp cayenne 1/4 tsp savory 1/4 tsp marjoram 1/4 tsp thyme 1/8 tsp ginger pinch of ground cloves 1/4 cup water mix all together and say yum, yum When I do this next time I think I'll add some minced onions and garlic or garlic powder.

Only saw one comment about using good socks. I work on a lot of feet during wildfire season, and most of them are due to cheap socks. I even got burned last season by some Cabela's wool socks, thought I was getting a deal on 6 pr for $20, I had big blisters on the first fire of the season using boots that I had worn for 4 seasons. I came to the conclusion that if you are paying less than $7 to $8 a pair you probably won't like them. I hate to use price as a quality gauge but so far it has been accurate. Liners are nice, if your outside sock slips down just fold the top down over the top of your boots. I also hit my feet every night with hand sanitizer, it kills the stink and helps your feet dry much faster, I've seen trenchfoot on fires a couple times where folks weren't taking their boots off and drying their feet out. Takes the stink out of your armpits too.

You're a couple days late, a Rockchucker went for $60 after being posted about 2 hours here a couple days ago.

As I understand it no it is not legal, they have to be 21. My daughter was in the Explorers, considered growing up to be a cop, cops have to be 21 so they can LEGALLY carry a handgun. It can be purchased as a gift and not be considered a straw buy.

Chorizo - this is what I turn my javelina into, yum, yum. Have used deer & elk too. I have also made this using a 50/50 mix of game and 70/30 hamburger, gives it a different flavor. Different vinegars add different flavors also. I have used white & red rice wine & red raspberry vinegars and been pleased with the results. 1 1/2 lbs pork butt 1/2 lb pork fat - (I scrimp on the fat and make it up with meat, prefer lean sausage) 1 bunch (4 to 6 oz) fresh cilantro, chopped, about 1 cup – I have used 2 - 3 tblspn dried also 1 fresh serrano or jalapeno or other hot pepper, seeded and finely chopped 1/4 cup red wine vinegar - I have used red wine, rice wine & red raspberry vinegars, each adds it’s own distinctive flavor. 1 tblspn New Mexico or other dried chile powder 1 tblspn sweet Hungarian paprika 2 tspns kosher salt 1 1/2 tspn whole cumin seeds 1 tspn ground cumin 1/2 tspn coarsely ground black pepper 1/2 tspn ground cayenne pepper 1/4 tspn ground coriander This is the original form of the recipe, I like to add fresh garlic and onions to mine. Nice thing about making your own is you can modify to suit your taste. grind meat/fat together, mix in spices/water and knead together, then grind again. I use a 2nd grind just to mix things up a little more, it isn't necessary. If you are going to grind twice use the plate with the biggest holes for the 2nd, makes it go a little faster. Cook small patty and decide if needs anything. If you want to add more bite leave the seeds in the peppers. I keep a bag of all these spices mixed with dried peppers & cilantro, that I use for all my Mexican food. Throw in a couple spoonfuls with a lb of burger and you have taco meat, thin slice a roast or chicken breasts and you have fajita's.

Great photo's. As a kid I lived in Indian Springs Nv, the T-Birds were stationed there and we got to watch them practice all the time. This was in the late 60's, the planes were a lot different from the ones they have now. Used to pick up parts from crashes, spent dummy rounds, all sorts of stuff we should have left alone.
