Help w/Load Data .264wm w/ Hornady ELD-X 143
azslim posted a topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Have a new rifle to work with and find out what it likes. I don't want to buy the latest manual for one bullet my rifle may not like, says likes a 1 in 8 twist and mine is 1 in 9. Anyway, if someone has the newest book what are the min/max loads for IMR4831 & IMR4350 and is it with regular or mag primers? Thanks for helping a cheap skate. -

State Legislator's would just find a way to get their hands on it, happened before, reduce a budget here and snatch money from there to pay for pet projects.

skiff of snow at Tinder & Rattlesnake ICP's, not enough to help much the the cool weather will benefit both fires

I made friends with the butcher at Albertson's, would hook him up with sausage I made and he would save beef suet for me. Worked out great until Mgmt found out and started packaging the suet for sale.

Know some guys working this one, worried it could blow up today or tomorrow with all the wind

I like to grind up my elk with some bacon when I'm making burgers

find water and green grass, they like to eat the grass to loosen up the plug that formed during hibernation, and water to soften things up a little

take a pair of shears and clip the ribs where you want them

a little bottle of Liquid Bandage works great for feet, hit hot spots with it, let it dry and you have a barrier from the rub and don't get a blister

I use mine to age my game meat before I butcher it, if you stack them in right you can fit 2 cow elk into one once the shelves are removed.

I kinda let the weather dictate, if it's hot and I need shade I try and glass the shady slopes, if it's cold and I want sun then I glass sunny slopes. Unfortunately this means you have to put up with the weather, which sucks on really windy days because you have to face the wind and glass the lee slopes.

Gila county pushing forest service to close forest
azslim replied to wildwoody's topic in The Campfire
nice idea to ban campfires, won't stop the idiots, if you remember a few years back a guy was cited for a fire and he was using the No Campfires sign as tinder -
I picked these up as an upgrade for my backups and loaners(Vortex Vipers), haven't used them much, nice and clear. Not pleased with the tripod mounting system, prefer the bayonet stud type. Leupold has had the Lifetime Warranty for many years and stand by their products.

I wore out a 4Runner that was pretty much a UTV with A/C and a good stereo, now doing the same thing with a Tacoma. I can fit these smaller rigs into places a full size truck wouldn't.

fire is lined and backfires were set where they were needed, crews will start mopping it up today

Anyone like old guns? H&A Safety Police 32 cal.
azslim replied to IHunt2live's topic in Classified Ads
not a high dollar pistol, even being as old as it is, H&R produced a bunch of affordable guns -
kinda tough now because the window has closed, most crews are full now, but he can get on lists to fill in if someone gets hurt. Not sure of the process but believe it is on usjobs.gov website fill-ins are important, a 20 man crew has to supply at least 18 people to the line or they will get demob'd off the fire

Taylor Tasked With Defending Hunting For Debate @ High School
azslim replied to lancetkenyon's topic in The Campfire
the team I taught with used to start out our Hunter Ed classes with this statement - "hunting is not a sport. Football, baseball, basketball, those are sports, nothing dies in a sport. Hunting is a tradition passed on from generation to generation of family and friends." Not a bad way to put it into perspective to non hunters. -
I picked up a Youth 870 20ga for my daughters, they liked it and when they got bigger I put on a slip-on recoil pad, it gave a couple inches length of pull for them

mine are some cheap ones my mother gave us for Christmas years ago, I keep a oval shaped diamond hone next to them and give them a quick sharpening every time I put them up my butcher kit is Victornox by Forshner, they take and hold one heck of an edge, when people use them for the first time I warn them that these knives show no mercy, if you touch your hand with the blade it will cut
-
I carry a foldable Outdoor Edge filet knife to take game apart in the field, works good I like a med grit diamond hone for sharpening
-
I have 2 flexible blade boning knives, 2 stiff blade boning knives and a 10" butcher knife for cutting steaks, they are Victornox by Forshner
-
think about all the times you have been scoped by someone while out in the boonies, you know there is a round in the chamber if they are dumb enough to use the rifle scope instead of bino's

you need to be aware of land ownership, you can be cited for trespassing even if it isn't marked
