    San Carlos reservation hunting

Another plug for Bob Stevens, Apache Outdoors. Was with him in Nov, a camp below us hunted for 4 days while I was there scouting and didn't get a thing, Bob tagged his hunter out the first morning. He knows game and he knows his country. http://apacheoutdoors.com/

    barrel life

depends on how hot you make the rounds and how many you shoot, lots of variables in that question I found when I was working up loads that the fastest one wasn't always the most accurate.

    Leica 7x42 Trinovid Binoculars

if I didn't have other plans for my play money I'd snatch these up, I carry 8x32's around my neck and 15's in the pack. The low power glass is great for checking that first 1/2 mile when you set up to glass, then use the 15's for long distance and every so often get off the 15's and check close around you. Hard to beat low powers when you are doing spot and stalk or still hunting, good glass lets you see through the bushes and pick up movement behind it.

    Walking Stick Suggestion?

I make them out of saguaro ribs, sand smooth, finish with lemon oil and sew on a leather handle. Made a few the right height so the owner can rest their glass on them while standing, makes for a good platform for hasty glassing while on the move.

Does Anyone Use Mule Deer Scents? Results?

Have a friend that used a drag rag covered with "doe in heat" pee, he was still hunting through the desert with his bow. He made a big circle and when he came back to his trail and read the tracks, seems a lion picked up the scent and was following him.

    Bacon Wrapped Venison Backstrap

I like to soak a 6 to 8" long chunk in the apple juice, then wrap with bacon and turn on the grill until the bacon is crispy, then cut into steaks. The apple juice is the only marinade.

another vote for Slick Tricks I sharpen my blades when they get dull, especially since I practice with my hunting heads about a 1 week before I plan on using them.

    Tips for a beginner?

get high, glass the sunny slopes in the morning, how often they water depends on how much moisture is in the food, could be every day, could be every 3rd day. They smell like a skunk and their tracks almost square in shape about 1.5 to 2 inches.

    Venison Tamales

I'm envious, I love to eat tamales but don't have a clue how to make them. I like to stick a couple in my pack in tinfoil, start a small fire and roll them in the coals on a hillside while I'm glassing, pretty tasty lunch.

How Rare Is This!!! Never dreamed I'd get one!

Nice. I've seen a couple over the years, the last one was in 17a, big old sow with a little red. I spoke with a couple biologists from G&F and they said it is not that unusual due to in-breeding within the herd, took their word for it.

    Kifaru Gear

That's what I wanted to hear. Been eyeballing their gear for about 15 years now, time to pull the trigger before I get too old to use it. How many times have you used your tipi. The lightweight material has me questioning durability, if I can get 30 to 45 days a season out of it for 10 years then I will be satisfied.

I believe I would have heeled that bull first before going in. He was pretty blown but could still put a hurting on you.
