I miss those days, only because it has been many years since I checked the heifers at 2200, 0200 and 0600. We always had a couple dozen 2 year olds we kept in the corral behind the barn for their first calves. Helping them calve and looking at the surprise and wonderment in their eyes as they checked out their first calf. Or bailing over the fence in a hurry when the mama instinct kicked in hard. Good way for a kid to grow up.

thinking about going down there with a handful of $100 bills and see if I can pick up a jewel or two, heard of folks in different states doing that and getting some nice deals, just have to offer $50 more than the buyback program

been suggested to me to back the bow down and use the widest expandable you can find and dull the blades and blunt the tip, this is to avoid pass thru's and the turkey flying away and dying where you can't find it, goal is to get the arrow to stay in the turkey

Mark Kelly AR15 Purchase Cancelled

It should be easy for him, he is a retired Captain in the Navy in addition to being an astronaut and marred to a former Congress woman, doubt there is even a parking ticket with his name on it. -
Scouting service..is worth it. Anyone have experience?
azslim replied to Gut Pile's topic in Elk Hunting
for $300 you are going to get old info and water holes on map. I did a couple scouting gigs a few years back and got $1250 each, I spent 6 days looking over the terrain on each gig, was only supposed to be 5 days. Both guys tagged out opening morning and gave feedback to the outfitter that I did him right, they were happy with the animals and they were right where I said they would be. To properly scout you end up with maps and lot of fuel and boot leather expended, glass morning and evening and drive and walk during the day.- 12 replies

I have the 450T and am happy with it, comes preloaded with maps of the US, has come in handy when I have been out of state. Is a little hard on batteries compared to my old Etrex, but it does a lot more.

How does it shoot? You have any group pictures and where does it group in relation to the sights?
-
with the BP shotguns I've shot we would wrap the shot up in newspaper, forget how big the little cup was, about an ounce at most but it has been a long time so were I to try this it would be 50 grs powder, a wad rammed home, then a newspaper wrapped load of shot seated on top of the wad and maybe a wad over that to hold it in place, worst thing that could happen is a useless pattern and you have to clean your muzzle loader
-
yea, that's the ticket, problem is it will be so expensive I'll have to sell my truck to get it, then my knees would be tired walking to my hunting ground with my camp on my back, darn
-
not sure you could get enough shot to make a good pattern at any distance, would definitely have to shoot at a few turkey targets first
-
wouldn't mind having a drone with a good camera, be a lot easier on my knees for scouting tough backcountry

We glassed up a couple in Dec, they are still there........

Muley Crazy-Rabbit Fight Unreal!
azslim replied to Jay Scott's topic in Jay Scott Outdoors/Colburn and Scott Outfitters
got to see this a few years ago down in 36B, took me a minute to figure out what was going on, then kicked back and watched the show, was pretty funny. The fight I watched had a couple hind-leg kicks thrown in, kicked each other in the belly, looked like it really hurt because eventually that was the final blow, one got kicked about 3 feet, rolled over and hauled butt. -

Bob has been posting some beautiful pictures on FB, you know Bob, won't use his last name here but he is a pretty good hunter. And just checked, you haven't friended him yet on it. -
reload, you can come up with a load your rifle will like and while the costs per round are cheaper, when I was reloading a lot my ammo costs didn't really go down, but I got to shoot a whole bunch more rounds for the same money. For example my .220swift was about a dollar every time I squeezed the trigger, made them myself for about 25 cents each. Initial cost for the reloading equipment will set you back some, but if you shoot a lot it will even out then soon you will be ahead.

what is the price on the .225? -
Way too much good meat for me to have to eat liver. Both Grandma's did game liver this way: flush thoroughly, just run the water right in the big veins, soak in a salt water solution over night, change the water the next morning and soak again that day. Thin slice and marinate in milk before frying in bacon grease with lots of onions. It actually isn't too bad this way. But I was another kid force fed liver, doesn't happen now, 'll stand my ground.

Wow, wonder what would have happened to my daughters, maybe have to move to a new school district. My girls were in 2nd & 4th grade, came back to school after Christmas break, all students got to stand and tell about what their best present was, my girls really liked the Ruger 10/22's Dad got them. -
cook it like any meat, backstrap's floured, s&p and fried in butter or bacon grease are good, made green chile out of a roast, made up breakfast sausage with it and plain old burger. Only thing I didn't like was using lion in the Chicken and Apple sausage recipe, that sausage is much better with birds.
