Aubrey and Ryan Get It Done!! **Updated with Jake's Hunt**
azslim replied to John O's topic in Youth Hunters
had a lot of memorable hunting trips with my daughters, enjoy your time with them, you will miss it when it's gone -
east of Palomas/Harquahala road, covers the Eagletails & Saddle Mtn, G&F breaks 41 into E/W for sheep tags

calls don't work so well with a small number of pigs, I've tried them on 4 or 5 and they high tail it, tried on bigger herds and they run right to you, especially if there are any reds in the herd. Keep your calls handy whenever you are out, let the animals tell you when you are making the right noise, then come hunting time you have your act together. Just remember to spit out your call before drawing your bow, can't anchor with a call in your mouth and a huge boar running at you like a P.O.'d rotweiller.

Dale, look into Trash Rack Outfitters. I haven't hunted it but I did a couple guide gigs for the owner when he had a business here, always treated me good and the pictures he sends have lots of various exotics.

had a friend that took a lot of lions, he used a lost beef calf call in cattle country

pick yourself up a manual a read it, use it in addition to online sources, $20 to $30 is better than blowing up a rifle and/or a hospital visit. what works well in one gun may not work as well in another. If I'm using Hornaday bullets I buy their manual, they tested their bullets with the components they list. Lyman manuals are good also for a variety of bullets.

"Never pass on the first day something you would gladly take on the last" That served me well when I was younger, now I'm more selective and it doesn't bother me to come home with a tag in my pocket. Take advantage of something you are not going to kill to practice your stalking skills. A couple times I have moved in to range where I know they were mine if I wanted, then jump out and yell and scare the crap out of them, makes for a good laugh.

what do you want, a head on the wall or meat in the freezer? Pretty easy to draw cow tags if you put them as your first 3 choices.

right there by that mean bush......the one with stickers

Good for you TJ. I shot one at last light a few years back, the arrow broke in 3 with about an 8" chunk plugging the wound channel, so no blood trail, I looked a few hours that night and finally found it about 1300 the next day, the meat was still good because thankfully it had died in a shade spot. My mind ran the gamut of tag or hide and plead ignorance, I hunt by myself, no one will know but me. I tagged it after saying "self, if this was a deer or elk you wouldn't even have second thoughts, it would be tagged whether the meat was good or not, your arrow killed it, even if it is an ugly little stinker it still deserves respect for giving up it's life to you". I used to tell the kids in my Hunter Ed classes - when you think something is questionable ask yourself if you would be proud to tell your Grandma of your actions. This was one of those situations.

WSM cartridges perform close to their big brother cartridges out to about 400 yds, then they taper off in velocity which in turn impacts energy, usually very accurate and less recoil than big brother, ammo not always available in Mom & Pop stores should you forget to pack yours
-
peroxide might help too, works good for getting blood out of clothes
-
