hard to control the temp with a fire, you'd be better off to use a Coleman camp stove or something along those lines, a turkey fryer burner works great

if you want to learn different braids look for Encyclopedia of Rawhide and Leather Braiding by Bruce Grant. It will show you multiple different braids and knots. I used to make reins, headstalls, bosal's and stuff when I was in HS, this book was all I used. He also put out a few paperback books that aren't as expensive but only had some of the examples.

My Dad had a Model A pickup, it was notorious for jumping out of gear. He had all his stuff loaded in it and had to get out and open a gate, yep the truck popped out of gear and was headed for a multi-hundred foot fall off of the Dinwoody Rim. Dad was able to grab a hold of the bumper and stop it but that was all, no one to help and he couldn't let go and run up, jump in and hit the brakes. So there he was holding the truck, and holding the truck, and holding the truck, until he got charley horses in both thigh's, let go and fell back and watched the truck head for the rim. Luckily there was a forked cedar and the right front tire & fender hit the fork and the tree stopped the truck. After the cramps went away he got in the truck, started it up and backed it out of the tree and went on his hunt. That Model A still has the dent, or did. Unfortunately I had to sell it last year. Had a lot of memories in that old thing going fishing and hunting with my Dad. If you ever get to the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming and head up to Dubois you will go by Dinwoody Lake and can see the rim, it is an easy 1000 ft drop or better coming off the top at the upper lake. We killed a lot of deer and elk up there, and caught a lot of fish out of the lake.

azslim replied to 280REM's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I've seen a couple over the years, speaking with biologists it is not unusual due to inbreeding. -
Meat Processor in N or NW Phoenix

I do it myself including making my own sausage. Buy a grinder and Bruce Aidell's Complete Sausage book and follow the instructions, then you can modify to your taste in your next batches. I mix 2/3 game with 1/3 ground pork except for javelina, them I do 50/50 just so I get a little more. I used a counter-top grinder for years, $100 to $120 so there is not a big expense involved. If you are married or have a girlfriend send her to the next Becoming An Outdoor Woman workshop up in Prescott in April. I teach a sausage making class there or my daughter does & I oversee and drink beer. There is also one in Aug/Sep, my daughter teaches this one, I'm usually busy that time of year. -
my only issue is they are funding "all" wildlife studies and programs off the backs of hunters and fisher-folk, so all the anti-hunters, hikers, photo takers, etc that enjoy the diversity of Az animals and outdoors are doing it as a result of us hunters reaching into our pockets. I know there is nothing we or G&F can do about it, just gives me something to whine about.

dump the bell peppers and use a couple jalapeno's, otherwise looks yummy
-
paint it - Hunters Specialties makes bow-flage, a removable paint, I did a shotgun with it, comes off easy if you don't like it

don't think there is much you can do to it, too weathered, just keep it inside and make up a lie about the 100 walk and crawling to a water hole with your last strength and finding it beside a rattlesnake you killed with a stick then ate

believe you would be happier with the Vipers, in addition to the comment here about prolonged use spoke with a couple guys last season that had the same issue, you want glass you can look through all day long, not in 15 to 30 minute stints then have to rest your eyes for a while before you can get back on the glass
-
they make 15x50 Vipers with HD glass, pretty good glass, I have a pair as my backups or loaners and they are about 1.5 lbs lighter than 56's

Who Has Shot A Ruger American .22LR
azslim replied to GlockMan's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
is it restricted to 22 cal only? I'd look at the new 17wsm, that will give you the range you want and is a rimfire cartridge -
anywhere the tree huggers start lawsuits keeping the guys from doing their jobs, I don't work for the Feds but I do work with the guys on the fireline, they are just as disgusted as you, spend 3 to 4 months planning for a burn and a conservation group comes in and shuts them down or gets it delayed until it ends up happening with the weather isn't conducive to a burn
-
TJ, talk to Amanda, she can get you in to my spots, to much detail to try and type

what's the big hurry, save money for a few more months and get a better pair, Vipers, Razors, Leupold Gold Rings, etc. Better to wait and buy one pair you will be happy with for a long time than upgrade every 3 to 5 years. Cheaper in the long run too, I know, I have given away several pairs of 'these will do for now" glass.

makes my head hurt........glad my bow and I get along fine with GT's and Slick Tricks if I take my time putting them together, right now my set up ain't broke so I ain't going to fix it, while it is more than capable of shooting beyond 60 yds, I'm not. I do like trying to learn from you guys so keep it up.

Every region has different styles and techniques based on terrain, habits and land access, some top notch desert hunters would have a hard time in different regions - with patience and weather if nothing else, I know I couldn't sit in a stand all day when it is below zero and snotcicles are hanging off my mustache. One thing all hunters have in common is love of the outdoors. We are lucky here in Az with so much public land, views for miles in some terrain, relatively beautiful weather for the most part. I tried hunting in Va and SC when I was in the Marine Corps, gave up. Va was too many people with shotguns in a small area where you are lucky to see 50 yds, SC they used dogs and ran them by guys staged in blinds. Neither one was for a Wy boy used to the Rocky Mtns and sage brush flats. But they guys I went out with were just like me, loved the outdoors and we had a great time sitting around the fire telling lies. They were frothing at the mouth to give my style a try if they could ever get out west. We all have different styles or things we call "hunting", but the thing we all have in common is passing on the heritage.

I've killed them in the pine trees in the snow

and if Mom transfers the tag she has to be on the hunt and I believe withing 100 yds of the shooter, check the regs for specifics tho

no hurry, deer season is a ways off, put aside $50 to $100 a month and get into better quality glass. When people ask what the extra couple hundred dollars buys me I would tell them time, as in 15 to 20 minutes sooner & later shooting clarity than cheaper glass. Can't go wrong with Leupold or upper echelon Vortex for their lifetime warranty, stuff happens on hunts, slips, falls, horse wrecks, etc, nice to send in a broke scope and get it fixed or replaced. I've got 4-12's and 4.5-14's, like them better than my 3-9's, get a 50mm F.O. if you can, helps buy a little more time, may have to put a cheek pad on the comb to get your eye at the proper height

you can get patterns at Tandy Leather, one on Greenway west of I17 or can get stuff at The Leather Factory, 19th Ave south of McDowell for gloves you need someone that knows what they are doing, tooling takes practice to be decent, just plain leather items aren't hard

Need help with .22 air compressed air rifle
azslim replied to SwampMafia's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
first suggestion is to contact the manufacturer, as a WAG may have an o-ring or seal that is drying out
