Updates w/Price Drop - WTS Browning Model 81 BLR .243 Lever Action
azslim replied to rossislider's topic in Classified Ads
these are great rifles, I have a Lightening in 30-06, use detachable scope mounts and you can quickly go to open sights if you need them. I use Warne on mine and as long as I tighten the front mount first it comes back to POI, if I tighten the rear first it hits a bit high. -

Women's Javelina Hunting Camp 2015 - An Amazing Experience!
azslim replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Javelina
don't wait on getting a game animal to try your hand at sausage, I've made it out of pork, beef, chicken & turkey as well as javelina, deer, elk, mt. lion, buffalo, quail and dove. If it's made of meat you can grind it up and make it into sausage, it's all about the spices in the meat. Bruce Aidell's Complete Sausage Book is my bible, follow the instructions the first time then start adding your own flair to it. -

or be like me, I don't like anything and hate everyone............. -
Chorizo I have used white & red rice wine & red raspberry vinegars and been pleased with the results. Nakano Seasoned Rice Wine Original is what I use most. 1 1/2 lbs pork butt - I usually make 6 to 8 lb batches and use either 2/3 game 1/3 fatty pork butt, lately it's been 50/50 just to get a little more sausage 1/2 lb pork fat - I skip and make up with meat 1 bunch (4 to 6 oz) fresh cilantro, chopped, about 1 cup – I have used dried also, 1 to 2 tblspoons per 2 lbs, depends on how much you like it 1 fresh serrano or jalapeno or other hot pepper, seeded and finely chopped – I use 2 per 2 lbs seeded and deviened, finely diced 1/4 cup red wine vinegar - I have used red wine, rice wine & red raspberry vinegars, each adds it’s own distinctive flavor. 1 tblspn New Mexico or other dried chile powder 1 tblspn sweet Hungarian paprika 2 tspns kosher salt 1 1/2 tspn whole cumin seeds 1 tspn ground cumin 1/2 tspn coarsely ground black pepper 1/2 tspn ground cayenne pepper 1/4 tspn ground coriander I like to add 1 tblspoon each of minced garlic and minced onion per 4 lbs, nice thing about making your own is you can customize it to your taste grind meat/fat together with small plate, mix in spices/water and knead together, if you grind again to get a good mix of the spices use the big plate, sometimes the peppers won't go through the plate, just clean them out of the neck and hand mix them in. Cook small patty and decide if needs anything. If you want to add more bite leave the seeds in the peppers.

slice about 3/8" thick, in a ziplock dump in some flour, salt, pepper and a touch of garlic powder, put in the steaks and shake until the meat is all covered, then cook in bacon grease or butter in a frying pan at medium heat, your call on how long you cook, I prefer medium rare, make sure the grease/butter is hot before you put the steaks in simple is best for tenderloins, taste the meat, I usually eat them for breakfast with hashbrowns and overeasy eggs the next morning, they seldom make it home from the hunt

my spotter seldom comes out of my pack, but it is nice when the game is so far away the 15's won't do

Expensive optics - anyone have buyers regret???
azslim replied to mattys281's topic in Optics and tripods
I sometimes regret my Razor HD spotter, not because of the clarity but because of the weight, I'm getting old and starting to lighten the load I pack all the time. -
The White House did issue a statement when Chris Kyle was killed. It was how brave the gay NBA player was for coming out.

you will find the same thing in new editions vs old editions, compare the most recent to one 2 editions previous and the new one is always more conservative - lawyers getting in their 2 cents to avoid lawsuits, same with triggers

Pronghorn Questions From A Hopeful Goat Hunter

Eastman's put out an article on field judging that will help. You may be able to find it on their website or they probably have a book written that you can buy. Worth if you aren't sure of what you are doing. -

I used to get 3 deer, cow elk & javelina tags every year when my girls were young, couldn't afford it now, G&F is pricing young families out of hunting nowadays

great gun for women or kids, fits them pretty good

what I like about this is the money raised is spent here in Az to help our game

I use pillow cases for game bags, wife gets them at yard sales and a couple of pieces of p-cord work great for tying the head to something on a steep slope to stop or reduce the sliding. And when I am working on a steep slope I put the knife as far away as possible when I am moving to a new position, don't need to slip and cut yourself because you had your knife in your hand or slipped and put your hand on it. Once you have done it a couple times you get pretty good at it, I usually have an animal in pillow cases in about 30 minutes if I am not caping for mounting, that takes a bit longer because I am being real careful not to put holes in the hide.

Archery deer help/hints near city of Maricopa needed...PLEASE
azslim replied to New2hunt's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I'd hit the mtns to the W/NW, get some elevation and glass the water courses. If it was drier you could go check for water sources. -
I got to work the Galahad Fire in the Park this year and we were on their radio network, surprised at the number of injuries and flights made for the tourists, seemed like every day they were flying someone out of the bottom of the canyon. The EMS folks sure stay busy there during the summer.
