from my flops I learned you need 25 to 30% fat for stuffed links, grind meat with the big plate, fat with the small one, mix good by hand and stuff a thought I've had, so far hasn't got past the thought stage, add a touch of olive oil to the meat to keep it from being so dry, if I ever do it will post results here don't give up, learn from your mistakes

the thing I learned making stuffed links, don't over grind and don't scrimp on the fat or they come out dry - my first attempt was dry brat flavored hotdogs here is another stuffed link recipe: Hunter Sausage - I like to make hash with this one, mix in potatoes and maybe scramble an egg or 2. Book stuffs and makes links, I have made them and they are good too. Good with deer, elk & javelina. 2 lbs pork butt or game meat 1 lb smoked bacon - also is good with maple flavored bacon too. 1/2 cup cold water 1 tblspn whole mustard seeds 2 tspns minced garlic 2 tspns coarsely ground black pepper 2 tspns sweet Hungarian paprika 2 tspns dried mustard 1 tspn kosher salt 1 tspn ground coriander 1 tspn freshly grated nutmeg 1/2 tspn ground ginger grind meat/bacon together, mix in spices/water and knead together. Cook small patty and decide if needs anything, if happy with then stuff links.

I'd talk with La Migra before doing it, at a minimum it would keep them from raiding your camp -

"I got up this morning and called them on phone and said to hold my bronc as long as you can" "My car broke down in Billings and they just got it put together, I'll be photo finishing into old Cheyenne" I had 3 or 4 of his albums in the late 70's, used to sing his songs while driving the tractors

send your wives and/or girlfriend to the Becoming An Outdoor Woman workshop in April or Sep. My daughter teaches sausage making classes. Here is a great book to start with, about 60 recipes for batches from 2 to 6 lbs of various styles. I've made about 25 of them and all have been great. http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/bruce-aidells-complete-sausage-book-bruce-aidells/1111603714?ean=9781580081597

Best coues deer call for the rut
azslim replied to CouesHunterAZ's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I've had decent luck with the Coues Buck Call from Modern Call Products, these guys were out of Buckeye. Don't even know if they are still in business, haven't looked at calls for years. They make a mule deer inhale/exhale call that works too. -
I cooked for a camp about 10 years back, the buffalo were hanging out by Timp Point. The hunters rented snowmobiles in Kanab otherwise they wouldn't have been able to get around.

I like to carry 8x32's around my neck, not a lot of weight and plenty of power for handheld glassing distances, I carry 15's and a tripod in my pack. I get to glassing spot and cover the ground around me with the 8's, then set up the 15's. -

here is another bit of education about what is going on in the west https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbcpzYPxxos -
I suggest you save your pennies and buy once, a Swaro 20-60x65 will do everything you want and doesn't weigh 5 lbs.

I texted the hunter, they got the buck drunk on fermented corn and tied it to a tree for him when it passed out. He walked in the next morning and sealed the deal.

they started a fire on their ground to burn out an invasive species, it got away and burned up some BLM land. They put it out without help from the Govt, the Govt even admitted that the fire improved the habitat. Still off to prison they go, the lawyer fees have about bankrupted them, which is what BLM wants so they have to sell their deeded ground and the Govt can buy it. This has been happening all over the west to ranching families, taken down one at a time and some Govt entity gets their ground, BLM, FS, USFWS, whatever one happens to butt up to the border. Many were put out of business by the wolf deal, keep cutting back grazing allotments to reduce chances of wolves killing livestock to the point they can't raise enough cows to live on and have to sell out. And hunters are getting the short end of the deal too, look at the Travel Mgmt Plans going into place. And if you think it's bad now, wait 10 years. -
I've worked a few fires with him, he is a good hunter.

if the number of small ranchers that have been put out of business by BLM, FS, etc. was known it would surprise you. They take them down piecemeal, bankrupt them with bs lawsuits and regulations. Some of these are families that have been taking care of the land for over 100 years. There are many in Sr Mgmt positions in the Govt that want all hunting, fishing, logging and ranching shut down on public ground. -
been running one for a few years, works great for me, getting tired of the weight, been thinking about dumping it and going with a 65mm scope

if you are hot and need shade then you glass for animals on the shady slopes, if you are cold and need the sun then glass for animals on sunny slopes, same deal for wind, if it has teeth and you want to hide from it so do the animals, which means you are stuck in it glassing the slopes out of the wind. Get as much elevation as you can and have something to sit on. The more time you spend behind the glass the better you will get with them.
