I found out that if you don't have the proper permits on the reservation they will take your shotgun and make you pay to get it back.

I'm thinking I'm ready to build my first rifle. Thought I would do a mauser action, douglas barrel (in .270), richard's stock, and not sure on the trigger assembly. But I'm having a really hard time finding a mauser action without buying a whole rifle. Any thoughts?

Ready to build my first rirfle
raisedin32 replied to raisedin32's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Thanks Tim Jeffro I just have the urge to build a hunting rifle and I don't have a .270. I don't want to do any bench rest shooting, I just wanted to shoot a deer with a rifle I built. The reason for the mauser action was I thought I could get a used one kinda cheap. -
Would you consider this a good deal on a Bow?
raisedin32 replied to HaYen's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
That depends if you like the way it shots if it is a good deal or not. -
I know this sounds weird but what I found that works the best for chiggers is cover each bite with a little of the wife's finger nail polish and it will go away pretty quick and it takes away the itch. I got em bad last year fishing the black river.

That's a nice buck man.

But shouldn't a responsible and ethical hunter know where he/she is while hunting and ask permission of the land owner to enter his/her private land to hunt or retrieve down game? Am I way off base here guys or do I need to exploit the law and just hope not to get caught by the land owner.

So if your back yard isn't posted in the corners and at the back gate I can come shoot squirrels in it?

Trail Camera Photos: Big Lion with Radio Collar and an Elk

G&F like to track the movement of lions see how far they range and see what kind of litters they have. Most lions that are taken out of populated areas get collared. -
Advice for a first time hunter

+1 and maybe a horse if your going where i think -
If you go to the end of ash creek rd SE of bonita you'll get on forest rd. If you stay on that road it will take you through the heart of 32 public land. If you're looking for white tail stay around the trees if you're looking for mulls stay on that road about 8-10 miles and and you'll get on the mesas, go west toward bass tank have a good 4x4 and a lion tag.

Jbeee if you want my advise I would think about another spot or get some horses. Don't get me wrong there are some nice deer in there but it is some of the roughest country in the state. I grew up at the base of the Galiuros and spent a lot of time in our lease. On the north side u can get to powers base camp with a good 4x4 and then its about 10 miles to the powers cabin which is good area but like I said before rough. Then if u do get something getting it out on foot would be a nightmare. Here is a decent map. http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/coronado/forest/re...ges/GALIURO.jpg

I been playing around loading a 55gn nosler ballistic tip for my .243 with right around 4000fps . I have a good 100 yd zero and when I go out to 200 I'm hitting 3" high. My ballistic calculator says I should be dropping a little more than 1/4". So you can see my issue. Had a buddy shot the gun he was also grouping them 3" high. Any thoughts?

If he could get his shooting buddies off his his 300 wm he might get more practice in.

Bullet defying gravity?

Anybody have any suggestions on a remedy for this cause aiming three inches low on a coyote at two hundred yards is no fun. -
Bullet defying gravity?
raisedin32 replied to raisedin32's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Double checked scope its good. Shooting from the same bench but the target was about 30' higher in elevation from 100 to 200. Could that throw me off that far? -
I have the Tikka T3 lite in 7mm. Great rifle good shooter and kicks like a mule. But it weighs in at 7 lbs loaded with scope so its nice to pack. The recoil sucks but you only have to fire once a hunt.
