Oh man do I remember. Lol I remember half the tag holders knew the pattern too.

What do I do next? Here is what I want to accomplish and what I have done. I have an exact instance in mind when asking this question but I am looking for “in general” advice. I know weather, time of year, hunting pressure, the rut, the moon, and the price of rice in China all change elk movement patterns so I am looking for a conceptual answer not a hard fast rule. I know it is June but this same scenario will apply any time of the year. I want to try to pattern a group of bulls that I have trail cam pics of. I have been to the area at different times of the day and have seen evidence of elk but never laid an eye on a live elk. I have successfully gotten trail camera pictures of a group of bulls. They regularly cross paths with my trail camera between midnight and 1 am. The problem is I cannot hunt those hours of the day. I need to know where these elk are during shooting light. All I know for sure is they cross my camera spot at that time of day. I don’t know where they come from or where they go after they pass by. How do I go about figuring this out? I think I would like to place a couple of cameras in the surrounding area to try to catch them somewhere else and then make a timeline and direction of travel. Any suggestions on placement and distance between cameras; or other Elk scouting techniques that would serve me well to solve my problem. Notes : water availability is not an issue – there are not any drastic elevation changes in the area – game trails criss cross the area – feed seems to be evenly distributed throughout the immediate area.

Fair enough and probably accurate and very good info. I still have to ask what would I do if I am 2 weeks away from my hunt and I am in this senerio?Move your cameras about 200 yds. a day until you find out where they are going. Good point. Or, you could get a Plot Watcher, and hook it up high enough over the area to get a "Field" view. You'll see them come in and out of the zone. Man I never heard of a Plot watcher camera I had to look it up. Very cool.

I have a few troubleshooting ideas for your camera not taking pics for 3 days. Send me the coordinates I'll go check it out for you. Nice looking bulls.

Oh my gosh thanks for pointing that out. I am blind. I originally only saw 1 kitten. 😱

According to my son that must have been the last fish in the pond because we didn't catch anything last time we were there. And I even let him fish with legit tackle and not a 14" long top water jitter bug.

My 3 year old and 7 year old got a serious case of fishing lately. We live in Gilbert and have hit up the riparian preserve on Greenfield and Guadalupe and Discovery Park on Pecos and Greenfield. There are 2 more listed McQeeen park and Freestone park that we have not yet tried. That being said they all kind of seem the same to me. Does anyone have any preferences or are they all the same concrete ponds occasionally stocked by the game and fish? Thanks for the input.

I would love to slap my tag on a 400" bull with 180 degree whale tails and matching drop tines. However I do not spent the requisite time scouting to find and or keep tabs on a bull that big. I will be flinging led at the first bull elk dumb enough to let me get into shooting range. What I am trying to avoid by posting this is I don't want to waste time scouting an area only to realize opening morning that every other idiot tag holder found that same "perfect" spot. Then be scrambling opening morning for plan E, F, and G. There are some trap spots out there. They seem great scouting because you are alone but the same thing that attracted you there also attracted everyone else. The seasoned veterans always know where those trap areas are.

Well that is a grim and bleak forecast. I guess if they aren't my closest friends now they will be after we chase those 25 bulls.
-
Yes late rifle. Sorry the 400 number was hyperbole. The exact number of tag holders is 275 so the correct number would be 274 other tag holders.

Thanks for the info guys.

Like new Ruger 9mm carbine $500. Does not come with a magazine. Uses the Ruger p series magazines. I am in Gilbert at Power and Pecos 480-290-8227.
-
Well my apartment was broken into and my ammo boxes with the magazine were stolen and the gun in the safe wasn't stolen. That was the day the gun and magazine were separated. Never shot it enough to care to buy a new magazine.

Congressman Hank Johnson on Guam - Will it Capsize?
Rag Horn replied to Coach's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
His fears are legit. I have seen at least half a dozen islands capsize. Its the conservitive media that refuses to report the inconvient truths. We dont like talking or thinking about it but islands are tipping over every day due to over population. -
Cept for the book, nice display.

Seems like there might be a "key" element to the story that is not being told here.......... nice bird congrats.
