  1. I didn’t check to see what casings they listed as test casings. I’ll have to go back and look at that. See if they published that info. Thanks.

    7mm mag reload questions

Alright so here is the deal. I am sitting on some 154 grain inter bond bullets, IMR 7828 SSC powder and Cci Magnum primers. I got enough stuff to load about 100 rounds. I want to load up some rounds for my 7mm rem mag. Far from ideal “work up a load” conditions a seasoned reloader would recommend I know. I’m already married to bullets, powder and primers. However that is the situation I find myself at the moment. Any advice on how many grains of powder and what that muzzle velocity is? I’ve read up on Hornady website and see their recommendation. But looking for some real life experience. Thanks. PS - if you read this and think “if you are asking these kinds of questions you probably have no business reloading” rest assured you are probably right.

    Old Remington 700 wood stock

Sorry I should have stated it’s a long action.
  5. Searching the federal ammo website comparing the 150 grain and 175 power shok options. The 150 is rated for medium game and the 175. They have the same bullet type. The energy doesn’t seem to be significantly different. What am I missing?. Why does the 175 grain deserve a designation suitable for big game and the 150 does not. Assuming I have my heart set on using federal power shok ammo why shouldn’t I use the 150 grain for elk. What am I missing? What am I not thinking about?

    Ammo ID help

long story short - I bedded my rifle- bought some ammo took 5 rounds from my house that were taped together with a note that said “4 inches high at a 100 yards maybe 150 grain” - took it to the range - Grouped the different loads that I bought then just to get rid of the mystery ammo I sent it down the tube. Well to my surprise the mystery ammo far and away out performed everything else I took out there. Now I am trying to figure out what the mystery ammo was so that I can buy some more of that kind. I don’t recall where it came from or how long I’ve had it. Anyone recognize the stamp on the back and can identify it? it has an FC stamp along with 7mm REM mag. And blue stuff around the primer.

    Ammo ID help

Sadly I don’t have any upcoming tags. I was taking this break between tags to undergo this bedding project. So I have some time to try some different options.

So I don’t have any before pics but after being thrown on the scent of them being federal I looked around and they looked like this. Now I didn’t have a box but the cartridge looked like this. (Bullet style and crimp)

Thanks I had wanted to assume that was what FC stood for. But really with my super amazing vocabulary and above average creativity I could have made FC out to mean anything. thanks

Input wanted - Hunting with a 10 year old

+1 to all the advice given about snacks and weather protection etc. +5 to the charged iDevices and downloaded games lol Every kid is so different so what works for some may not work for others. That being said I have had good luck looking over maps at home with my 11 year old. onX and google earth. then out in the field we can talk about the terrain "man the map made this hill look easier to climb" "oh there is the creek we saw on the map" "there is that big rock outcropping we want to get to". It seems to keep him tethered to and invested in the gameplan. Its also an easy thing to keep a running conversation about. We look for "deer spots" on the map together and talk about why we think there would be deer there. My kid isnt some map reading prodigy it was a surprising thing he took interest in and i think its helped him stay engaged out in the field rather than just getting blindly lead around. we also got a rock tumbler and look for "cool rocks" when things get slow we rock hound a little.
  16. I don’t currently have a stabilizer. I have waffled back and forth about the need for one. On a scale of one to ten how important are they. One being not at all needed. What separates a cheap stabilizer and expensive one? What’s on your bow?

    Deer pooping habits?

My 9 year old and I were out looking for deer yesterday. We were talking about how you could tell deer tracks were fresh and how we could that the deer poop was old etc. Well before I know it we were talking about how often deer poop. I didnt have an answer so when we got home I looked it up. One website says 13 times a day. Anyone have any insight on this? http://bowsite.com/bowsite/features/armchair_biologist/poop/index.htm

    Effective glassing range

I know there are a lot of variables in a question like this and the biggest one being the talent of the idiot behind the binoculars but I want to ask anyway. Assuming top quality glass and a clear day what is the effective glassing range of 10x42 binoculars? How far away can you spot and identify a buck using 10x42 binoculars? Might be a different way to word that.
