Is 45 inches to much growth for one year?

Depends on age of Bull a 12 year old bull most likely will not put on any inches and will probably lose plenty. A 4-5 year old can easily put on that many inches IMO. Good point I had not thought of age as a factor in rate of growth when I originally posted. Should have but did not.

    Law vs. Ethics

You hold yourself to whatever ethical standard you deem appropriate but you can only hold others to a legal standard, anything else is unethical. (that is not directed to anyone just a general brush stroke.)

    Tranquilizer elk hunts

Did not get drawn this year? Would you love to go hunting but do not want to actually kill the elk? Well here you go for only $300 plus $50 per dart used you can tranquilize an elk and even pose for a picture with your trophy. I found this website in a roundabout sort of way this morning and got a good laugh. I have never heard of tranquilizer hunts before. Seemed quite odd to me but hey to each their own I guess. I told my wife I wanted to go it would be only $350. She said ‘’yeah right I know how you shoot it will cost more like $900’’. I fear she may be right. If you click the link you the details of the hunt are half way down the page. http://pearsonranchjerky.com/pearsonranchhunts/gameparkelkhunting.html

    Being Green

“Going green” is a marketing campaign that plays on the pathos of the uninformed. Market research shows that Americans buy and feel better about products that have a “going green” label more than they buy the products that do not. There is no true definition of what “going green” means or standards to which a product must meet in order to get labeled as a green product. The clean water act on 1972 defines what clean water is. Therefore any company claiming to sell clean water must meet the standards outlined in the legislature. Bottling companies have moved to selling “pure” water. Why? Because there is no definition or standards to meet selling “pure” water as there is selling clean water. I say all that to say all this. Just because we have labels that say “going green” does not mean we are saving the planet. Just because my laundry detergent says it’s a “greener kind of clean” does not mean I am helping the environment. It means the laundry detergent people along with everyone else pushing products knows what to put on a label to sell products. As soon going green is not the cool thing to do the labels will disappear. Do not be fooled by what “our” generation is doing to save the planet it is not as much as what you would hope.

    Broken external hard drive

I went to plug my external hard drive into my computer only to find the female mini usb plug thingy was broken off inside the hard drive. Thus not allowing the cable to be plugged in. Is there a file recovery company or external hard drive mechanic I can take my hard drive to and get this fixed long enough to transfer the data to another external hard drive? Thanks for your help.

    Bear attacking camera

I lost two good trail cams and a pop-up blind to bears last year. The way they attacked my trail cam I figure the the best way to hunt bear is to hang a brand new trail cam out on a tree and wait. A bear will be along shortly to destroy your camera. Just kidding that would be baiting but seriously within days of putting up a trail cam it seems it has been torn down or messed with by bears.
  14. Do we have any forum members that are currently employed at the Frito Lay plant in Casa Grande? I have submitted an application to work there and am looking for any “insiders” that may be able to help. Thanks in advance for the help.

    The Science Behind Antlers

First I apologize if I am duplicating a previous thred I did not find a thred that covered what information I was seeking so I am creating looking for some insight. Is there any articles out there or personal knowledge that explains the science behind antlers? For instance what are they made up of? What is the growth process? I understand the basics such as they regrow every year and the velvet is filled with blood and protein and such but I am looking for more specific detail as to what makes up an antler. What factors specifically result in such a variety of antler shapes, density, and other characteristics about antlers? I know that genetics are a factor but I think that there is more. This might be a stretch of comparison but for instance those that know can take a cross section of a tree and tell by its rings exactly what years there was plenty of water, years where there was little water, how rich the soil is with certain minerals, and other environmental facts. Is there such evidence left behind when looking at an antler?

    The Science Behind Antlers

I understand that you might not be able to tell the year to year conditions such as you can a tree. I just used that as an example of being able to tell what happened by what is left behind. It was just a bad example for what I was trying to ask. I have attached some pictures and from these pictures you can see a difference from antler to antler the pith density difference. I am interested if you can tell anything by what the pith looks like or how thick the hard wall is around it. I am interested to read what the two sections of the antler are made up of and things of that nature. Thanks for the recommended readings.

    For the love of horns

I do not get to many free weekends to hit the hills so the few trips I do go on are planned long in advance and come heck or high water we go. Well in this case it was come heck or high snow we go. The forecast said winter like conditions and they were not wrong. Most of the Saturday was a nice over cast day. That was until we got 4 ridges away from the truck. At that point the skies opened up and dropped 4 inches of snow in what seemed like 5 minutes. Well it was a bear hiking back to the truck with a few horns on our back and visibility at 10 feet. Hiking out my friend that was with me asked “we do this for fun?” It truly was miserable hiking in that junk. However we made it home safe and sound and would do it all again tomorrow. We were fortunate enough to find a couple browns and a couple old chalkers.

    Got a ticket from G&F

I have been crossways with the system. Sparing the details of the situation I have decided that my honesty and forthcoming of information about the situation gave them the rope to hang me. Therefore I decided that in the case of another incident I was just going to keep my mouth shut about what I was doing and anything else I was being questioned about, until I had a lawyer with me. The laws are written in such a way that they can find something you are doing wrong and throw the book at you. If they wanted to. Thankfully all do not take this approach. Just like you said the definitions they use are vague enough that it could mean anything. Almost like the horoscope page or the little fortune that comes inside those crappy cookies you get at Chinese restaurants. Just like others have suggested just keep rolling by and wave. Make them prove you were doing something wrong do not offer them any rope. Sorry about the situation. Wish it were different.

    To many "pinned" topics

I think the information that has been “pinned” is valuable and worthwhile. I would hate to see it get buried. However I do agree with you there ought to be more room for current stuff. Maybe there should be a “pinned” topic. It would be like all the rest the mule deer, elk hunting, shed hunting, and predator hunting sections. Just a thought, I mean it was pinned for a reason and I have benefited from the info being close and not buried.

    WTB antlers

I am looking to buy antlers. Elk antlers more specifically, deer are ok too. I am looking for older antlers that have gone white and chalky. I am willing to pay $5 an elk antler for any antler that is 4pt or larger. This may sound like a low ball offer however the last time I checked antlers in this condition went for $.75 a pound, so I don't think it is to bad of an offer. This is the kind of antler I am looking for. I am located in mesa. Thanks for looking.

    Christmas Tree Hunting

I am living in the valley and will be spending Christmas down here this year. Usually I spend it up in Alpine and that is where I usually get our Christmas tree (and do my hunting). Well Alpine being far away I do not want to travel that far to get a tree this year. I am lookin for a good Christmas tree hunting spot close to Payson. I understand if it is to close a guarded secret to tell. But if someone could part with forest road number or something it would be much appreciated. I know this is considered e-scouting and is looked down apon (by myself included) but with ASU finals in full swing I have not had the needed time to get out and do some Christmas tree scouting for myself as I should have. Thanks.
