Don't worry about it, you didn't miss much. We hunted 32 near Klondyke, and saw the same 4 deer everyday. 3 does and a young buck. Deer population there was decimated by the first hunt of the season and apparently a huge population boom in cougars (not the good kind) according to locals. We spent 5 days staring at javelina and cows. Plus it was like 11 degrees the first few nights.

All of my experience hunting is in S. Texas. Full moon there means really early morning hunting...everything seems to be bed down by first light. I've seen maybe a half dozen deer in the mornings then. Rarely see dear before dark. On no moon or very small sliver moon nights there seems to be more activity during the day. Since the seasons here are so limited, I imagine it won't mean much here. I haven't even bothered to find out what the moon cycle will be in late November. I still miss those 2-4 month seasons in Texas...

I agree with the others that camo is not important in AZ. In TX, where I learned to hunt in the brush country, the average shot I took there was about 30 yards so...yeah it helped. For hunting now I use my old Army ACU's since all of my gear is ACU, camo is kinda built in. It is not the best camo, but works pretty well here it seems. This will me my first hunt in AZ, and I am hunting 32. So my gear: ACU pants, top, UofA ACU patterned baseball cap (Go CATS!) and a large 7500 pack with only the bottom 1500 ci with gear. The remaining space is to pack my trophy out! I also have an orange road guard vest (like a safety vest) that I will throw over the head when heading out. Boots are Cabela's scent eliminator stalker boots that are also camo by default. My warm weather boots are Merrill 3/4 lightweight hikers.

I am looking at the Galiuro's as well. My wife and I have been hunting in Texas for the last few years, but I am a Native Arizonian so this will be my first season back in AZ. I drew a unit 32 tag for the end of November. I've been researching the area for the last 3 months (before I got the tag) and from what I understand, that because of it's remoteness and limited access, pretty much anywhere should be great...if you can get to them. We are backpackers and I have a 4WD, so with the responses to the OP already, are there other areas other than the Galiuro's that are not overly crowded?

This is my opening day hunt at my buddies ranch just east of Zapata Texas in 2005. This was my second season hunting after Iraq and my second buck. My first buck was a spike, and of course as a rookie hunting did not think about bringing a camera. I was using a Marlin 30-30 on this hunt. This deer was at about 75 yards. He of course then leaped out into the middle of the pond before expiring. The pond was about 200 feet across, but luckily only about 3 feet deep. It was still very cold wading out there to pull him back to shore in early December. The hog ran out of the brush on the far side of the pond with three other hogs after I shot the deer. I shot him on the run at 100yds. This is my wife's first deer ever! This deer's body was huge compared to the usual deer in the area.

Hello everyone! My name is Jerrod and I have recently moved back to AZ from TX. I grew up in Mesa, and after graduating college I joined the Army. After Iraq I ended up in Texas, and started hunting for the first time. A friend's family owned a 500 acre ranch in South Texas (WT Paradise) and I've been hooked since. I've been hunting deer, hogs and dove since 2004 in Texas, but this is my first time trying to hunt in AZ. I thought I'd join your forum to get to know some other local hunters. My wife hunts too, and we are both looking forward to our first coues hunt this year as soon as she can get back into shape after our first baby. She is a nurse, and I am an Assisted Living Manager for a healthcare facility in Scottsdale.
