Its not hard to guess the writers opinoin in the story....incase a camper starts firing his gun at a niose in the dark. I see tripods often at yard sales they are normaly cheap in price sturdy but a lttle heavey but still quite the value plus they are normaly set up and you can spot then from the street with out getting out of your truck.

when i was useing the small tripod i took the head off of a small table top tripods and drilled out the center for a longer bolt and then i put the bolt through a 1/4in drive 7/16th socket. then removed the lower part of the pan mechanism and put the upper section over the socket. up and down it moves ok but side to side is silky smooth across the socket. since i have upgraded my whole set up. im using vortex viper 10x42 binos with promaster adapter. on a manfrotto 128cr fluid pan head. the legs are vipers high country. and a vortex nomad spotter. i have been more than impressed with the combo so far. i have taking pic through vortexs digital camera adapter, but with the heat the last few months if its too far away the pics are crap. the set up is light enough and steady enough. i have even used the gun claw while practicing at the range.

My advice.....don't do it. But it sounds like its to late. I would look harder at finding a trophy shop that will engrave buck knifes.

I would love to take him but id be just as happy to see a jr hunter get him just as long as I get to see some close up pics

. I think the damage has been done but I took it down any way. I was thinking it might look familar to some people. I too have buck fever now I'm dieing for a break in the weather to put in some work in my hunt unit.

i was stationed there for a few years any where off range road to gardner canyon or black tail canyon. 4x4 is a must or a quad. big deer all over just got to find them. talk to the locals. talk to josh at trail boss, im sure he has a few named already.

i uses to use that exact tripod. untill i upgraded. it does the job and its lite. i modifyed a cheap pan head for it.

I went ahead and downloaded shooter. So far I'm impressed. I'm going to do some long range practice this weekend to test it and my new mark 4 . As an added bonus you can email range tables to any one you like.
