Also the buck to acre ratio is lower here. It could be too the sign your finding is from does.assuming there are little to no bucks in the area now its not such a bad thing. If there's does using the area come rut time them sneaky sob's will show up out of no where.

Slate and box calls are the easyest to make realistic sounds with little practice. As for locater calls I like a crow call in the dark(night or morning) Turkeys are pray to every thing that eats meat. Fox owl coytoe crow calls will get them to shock gobble to warn others. They are more likly to do so when they are roosted as it gives there position away but they feel safe in a tree. And they fly down hill amd walk up hill.

I've never hunted the unit either but if it were me I would scout near the east centeral part of the unit.

http://www.javelinahunter.com/ This website has a lot of general javelina hits and tips. Make sure you look through all the tabs on the left hand side. I'm not sure if you have ever hunted javelina before but for me I live to hunt. Just about any thing. Dove quail turkey deer elk. I've always taken my big game hunts (deer and elk) extreamly serious. I. Very much enjoy them but when it comes to javelina its always been differant. I always have more fun. It may be that my dads always with me cause he does not hunt deer or that i feel less presure to make a kill. I can never quite put my finger on it. But I love to hunt javelinas, not any more or less than any thing else, its just differant. I have been rained on and had tag soup on more javelina hunts than any other hunt. I too drew a ham hunt this year it will be my first time trying with just a bow.

Nice job. That a tough one you have there. I have hunted through colds and flus but when a fever is involved I turn sissy and fast.

BEST CHOKE AND SHOT SIZES FOR QUAIL
oz31p replied to coues hunter's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I used to use 7 1/2 with a full choke. But the last 2 years I've been using 6 high brass with a full. My kill have gone up but I seldom if ever get a shot closer than 30y on desert gambles. I also shoot them on the ground when ever posible. -
Lol I can't tell if that last post is serious or not. Yah its fenced its got 4 strand barbed wire all the way around it. And a few cwt "stuck" inside.
-
I was shooting right next to a block wall. I think it was just the rest coming down but echoing from a few feet away. I can't wait to chase some deer around the desert.

I dabbled with archery tackle last january with a older overdraw bow that was given to me. For a week I used a borrowed 08 dimond stud. Well I jumped in head first today. I tryed about every bow in my price range and was set on a hoyt turbohawk, untill I shot the pse bow maddness xs. About a dozen arrow and I had the gentleman at the shop set it up with a new ripcord rest and new carbon arrows it should be close to ibo as the arrows are around 360 with a 100g tip. I'm pumped but he wanted to keep it overnight so tune it up so ill have to wait to shot it untill tommorrow.

Its it a great deal. My buddy bought a set used for 400 about 3 months before they when on clearance. I used them on this las hunt

Ill do you one better. Before last years javelina hunt I bought a set of 10x42 vipers. My first set that cost more that $40. All always it was raining during the hunt so I had to wipe water away from the lens during the hunt. I get home and while cleaning my gear I I find a smal circular scratch one the eye piece. I merely made mention of it on another hunting forum. Withing a few hours I get a pm from a vortex employee/hunter asking me for my address. I give it too him. 2 days later a prepaid box arrives. I sent it in. 5 days later a brand new set arrives with their anit fog/ water repel kit. 7days total. Needless to say I've been a walikng vortex bill board. I feel a little bad as I told vortex that it was my fault and the scratch was so small it did not afect any thing. They told me it was afecting the clairity and was unacceptable for me to have a scratch on the lens. Since I feel guilty I have since bought there spotter, digiscope addapter and tripod.
