An question about procedure...
oz31p replied to macknnc's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I almost never hunt quail behind a dog. But I've found that while they may be less " sporting" on the ground they are more "edible". -
TIM you have got to be kidding me!! You stayed home to carve pumpkins instead of helping me find these dang coues for my two guys? LOL. We seriously need to talk. Lets hope you take this elk hunt coming up alittle more serious. Mabey I would have joined you if I though I was going to get a chance to use my knife.lol. they are damm handy. I'm on my 3rd pack of blades in 3 years. As for my upcoming bull hunt, I have my eye on the brass ring dont you worry.

most of the "any antlered" units opened on the 25th

truth be told its a foam pumkin from home depot. although i did carve it myself with my havalon. i think beeing foam made it harder to carve. but the day after halloween i dont have to pitch it, i can save it for next year.

I've killed a few coues with a rifle and with a bow in 21. Some area are better than others and some areas got hammered with people and most people drive right pass the best spots. Heavy scouting is a must.

Welcome to varmit calling. The only answer I've found is to put my back against the steepest hill I can find. Preferably were it over looks two or more washes come together. I refer the these areas as the valley of death. As they normally come crusing down the wash only to stop to get a better bearring on the noise and are instead met with the report of my rifle.

Congrats. I'm glad you guys won. Your show looked like every coues hunt I've even been one.....minus the huge buck you guys killed. I bet I voted 100+ times. -

now think about the hunts that have 100-600 early archery tags. My favorite line" it was a high hit. He'll be fine."

I have been of the same mind set. My only concern is are these the kind of people we want in our ranks.? -
I'm like you. I know I can always get closer but it sure is fun ringing steel from a long ways off.I have two different 300wm I like them both for different needs. One I load a 180g nab and the other a 200g sierra game king both with h1000

Theres nothing stopping you from having both. I say one or the other because turrets are more accurate. And I'm not fan of busy redicls on long range guns. If your using turrets you want the fines sub tentions you can find and a redicl that clear of cludder. Ballistic redicals have there place but I always say a rifle that will never shot over 500y ballistic redicl. A long range gun turrets.
