    Loading Barnes bullets

So exactly why does the fact that he uses his favorite caliber as his signature have anything to do with the validity of his advice?? He has over 1000 more posts than you do and probably some more time in the field. Sounds like , as with any bullet, there are success stories and failures with it. I do agree with evaluating the loads and the bullets yourself and seeing what shoots best out of your rifle though. each rifle has its pet load and bullet and you just keep working until you find it. I have never tried that particular bullet brand, I have tried nosler, speer etc and always return to Sierra for all of my rifles, for me they are tried and true(never lost an animal with one) and they are relatively cheap compared to all of the others. obama's qualifications

I agree with Jason, Election is over, Obama won, I hope he is able to make a difference for the better!! Ok so now I have reupped my NRA membership for 3 more years, and think that instead of whining, we should be looking at how to best protect our interests, by supporting the groups which will help us ensure that our gun rights are not infringed etc. We have to face the fact that the country voted for change that Obama promised, if he fails to deliver he will be out in 4 years!! we just need to do what we can to support our country and mind our rights as residents of the greatest country in the world!! ag
  5. SO tonite my 12 year old son and 11 year old daughter and I went out to the Mimbres to a buddies alfalfa field that we have been hunting all week for mule deer. We had so far seen doe after doe , but no bucks. We were hunting out of my primos blind that I set up the week before the hunt and I was wondering if that was spooking them a little. So we get out to the property about 425 and the wind picks up and starts getting bad so now the blind is shaking. I am thinking well I guess there goes that, so I just whip out my book and start to read.. I read 2 pages then glass the tree line, and so on , well all of a sudden I realized that there were some shapes that were not there before!!! I whipped up the swaros and saw doe, doe, doe, fawn, BUCK!!! told my son, get ready !! I had him slide the gun barrel out so he could rest it on the blind and when he told me he was ready I told him to fire away, he shot ............ DOUBLE LUNGER at 163 yards!!! You can tell by the smile how excited he was, my daughter was excited too!! Of course I was cool and composed(yeah right) SO after the gutting lesson and etc, what a night It may not be a real big deer but what a trophy!!! the hardest part of the night was explaining to my daughter why it would not be good idea for her to take the scrotum to school to show her friends!!!!

    My Sons first deer

Purse, now that is a good idea!!! We sat in that blind every night we hunted with the video camera set up just waiting to film a kill, well of course it was on the floor of the blind not set up when he shot!! As soon as I saw that buck I just told him to get a good rest and shoot and never even thought about filming it!! He did do quite a victory dance around it when he saw that it was dead adn not going anywhere!! Wish I would have videotaped that!! He tore off his shoot and started yelling like a crazy man and running around it!! I would have joined him but I am to fat and with my luck would have tripped and fallen on the deer and broke off and antler!! My daughter thought that him shooting that buck was one of the coolest things she had ever seen. It was a classic shot, the deer gets nailed, turns and stands there, then starts to sway, then it starts to walk backwards for about 10 yards and then down he went!! Man I wished I had that on video!! ag

    Tucson area guys

Honestly, it is not their nose that I am worried about them picking!!!!!! I got food poisoning from ham and eggs deer hunting in CO. I was hunting with some of my dads friends and was trying to tough it out, so I knew I was going to hurl so I said "I am going to go glass over here from the tree line" made the tree line and puked, smelled so bad I puked again. Then my lower end got jealous so I sprinted through the woods to get away from the road, dropped my britches adn let her rip. I heard a truck coming and was congratulating myself on getting away from the road, when I looked to my left and I was oh about 3 yards from it. Well I tore my blaze orange vest off and ducked my head until the truck as about passed, it was a guy and his 2 hot daughters Only then did I realize I still had on my blaze orange boonie hat!! Well I gave them plenty of time to get down the road past my buddy, walked out of the treeline and lo and behold, they are standing there talking to him So me being stoic can only say, "well there is no stinking deer over in that stand of trees!!" Oh and to top it off I blew chunks in his truck again coming up the road from telluride to trout lake!! yee ha. I could not eat ham and eggs for several weeks!! ag

    AMAZING trail cam picture

Looks real to me, you can see the entry and exit wounds and that is just splatter, it is not in its body. My uncle videotaped 2 bucks locked together and the larger one was arrowed and the still frames looked exactly like that whitetail does. Large splashes of blood from entry and exit immediately. When you arrow through the lungs or the heart the high pressure pushes the blood out the wound channels immediately. The ghosting is normal to on a moving animal. I have several pics from my younger days taking pics of my dork flagstaff friends while they are moving and it does the same thing. My vote is that it is for real. ag

    GOOD PEOPLE OF EAGAR

So this weekend my wife and kids and I went up to Eagar to help with a benefit dinner and auction that they were having for her uncle Steven Brown who was recently diagnosed with brain cancer. It was a navajo taco dinner and live and silent auction. Now her uncle was a Sheriff Commander and was a coach for the Elks. Now people kept coming and coming and coming I was helping pull the dough for the fry bread and 2 hours of pulling dough Holy Cow!! I got a nice gun cabinet out of it made by Round Valley Shop class, but when all was said and done they raised a ton of money for him and his wife. He starts Chemo this week and neither of them will be able to work while he is in Phoenix. This will help quite a bit but a huge thanks needs to go out to all those good people who came and supported him as well as those who donated the auction goods. For people to come out and spend what they did after a financially dismal week was something to see!!! I know this does not really apply to Coues but it was awesome to see the expression of love for Steven and to see the selfless way that people gave for him. Thanks AG

    Unit 17 Youth Elk

Well we had a great time, we actually only got to hunt for a day and a half due to some last minute School stuff, so my son was pretty bummed. We were out early Sat. and did not really hear any bugling and there was someone parked where we wanted to start the day(they left camp at 330 more power to them!!) So we sat and glassed and heard them shoot from over the canyon. They had a nice 4x 4 down, spent the rest of the day glassing and hiking canyon fingers. That night we were in good elk country with great sign everywhere and had some muley doe feed right up to us, of course then the storm that hit up there Sat started to blow in and the wind was swirling everywhere. We were in a large park and I was cow calling every so often, we got up to leave due to the wind and as we were walking out a large black bear took off from about 30 feet in front of us. THat was the extent of our action Sat. SO got up MOnday at 230 and headed out again and hunted a small area of natl. forest and again were cow calling a little and my buddy got an answer adn immediately these 2 cow bailed out of the canyon and my son had to take a standing shot and missed(did draw blood from his new scope mark on his forehead though ) I called and they actually stopped and he was sitting this time but the large cow he wanted was behind a tree, I just told him to hold on and lead her when she stepped out, but of course she went from 1 mph to 100mph and he did not get another shot. After applying some direct pressure to is new facial laceration to stop the bleeding we tried to get back on them but they crossed into private land. So if I would have had him sit and shoot the first shot like I should have, we would have been eating some elk jerky today!!. He had a blast and has a deer hunt Nov 1st so he can hardly wait, of course then he will have some competition from my 11 year old daughter!! Oh and I picked him up from school on Tuesday only to find it was yearbook picture day!! My sons forehead scope mark will be immortalized forever!! Nonetheless we had an awesome time and special thanks to Tommy M for all the help. ag
